In all the Marko Hietala news earlier in the year about his retirement, I tripped over a bit of info that I missed previously. He released a solo album last year.

This song is "Stones" by Marko Hietala from his January 2020 solo album Mustan Sydämen Rovio (Pyre of the Black Heart), though this song was released as a single ahead of the album.

Armed Teacher Stops Kidnapping

Yes, there are armed teachers at some schools. Armed teacher stops attempted kidnapping in Utah, police say | WKRN News 2

A 41-year-old man accused of trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from a Utah school is in custody, and a teacher is being hailed as “a hero.”

Ogden police arrived at Lincoln Elementary School in Ogden on Tuesday after the teacher was able to stop the suspect, later identified as Ira Cox-Berry, and get all 20 students off the playground and into the school, authorities said.

He held the guy until cops arrived. Oh, he also managed to call 911 while all of this was going on.

“This employee is protected under the Second Amendment. He followed all policy and procedure at the school, and in this particular case, did everything that he should have done to protect the innocent lives of the children at the school,” said [Lt. Brian Eynon, of the Ogden City Police Department]. “And in this case, it is likely that a life was saved or injury to a life was prevented due to the actions of this heroic employee.”

Chicago Politicians Can't Count. Neither Can the Media

They can't admit that liberal policies don't work. Report claims officials could find only 2 times when people on bail for gun cases contributed to Chicago's violence. Please, allow us to help. | CWB Chicago

WBEZ, Chicago's NPR affiliate, is going on about how low bail (and soon no cash bail) is not impacting crime in the city.

Even The Chicago Tribune could find some examples...

Then, there is our own reporting. All totaled, CWBChicago reporters have identified 19 people who are accused of killing, trying to kill, or shooting someone in Chicago this year while on bond for other felonies. There are 27 victims involved in those alleged crimes. For 2020, CWB’s team identified 38 people who were charged with killing, trying to kill, or shooting someone while on bail for felonies. Those cases involve 43 victims.

Without consequences for crime, you get more crime. And it isn't just bail. Kim Foxx, the Illinois State's Attorney for Cook County, not-so-affectionately known as Crimesha, dropping cases and pleading things down to nothing also doesn't help. But that is a story for another day.

Click thru. CWB Chicago is perhaps the last real journalism in Chicago, willing to call out the lawyers and the politicians with real news.

Your Tax Dollars At Work - UK Edition

Expecting "The System" to take care of everything is a losing proposition. Families of London Bridge terror victims slam charity for treating convicted terrorist as a 'poster boy' and ignoring safety concerns - while condemning MI5, police and probation service after jury blamed failures for deaths.

It comes after an inquest jury found that [Usman] Khan - an Islamist terrorist who was released from prison early after he was found guilty of planning an atrocity on Britain - had 'unlawfully killed' the two graduates.

Jurors also found that a catalogue of failures and omissions by MI5 and counter-terrorism had made the London Bridge rampage in November 2019 possible.

Everyone (especially in the UK) wants to be seen in the "best light." That means ignoring warning signs.

As for the charity...

It seems there was no intent on their part to listen or take notice of what they were dealing with in working with such a high risk individual. Learning Together declined an opportunity to learn more about Usman Khan and his risk factors. This may have contributed to a failure to take account of the steps necessary to protect the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved.

Usman Khan attacked people at a "prisoner reform conference." He was supposedly reformed. He was eventually stopped by conference attendees who had grabbed a narwhal tusk and a fire extinguisher, because when seconds count police are only minutes away, and in the UK you are forbidden to have any effective means of self-defense.

A Slow Motion Dam Failure? I Guess We'll See

Starting last week, an earthen dam in Barnsdale, Oklahoma on Lake Waxhoma developed a leak. A fairly substantial leak. The powers that be declared a victory, but now it looks as though that may have been premature. (Water always wins.)

So first the story from last week. Barnsdall Mayor: Breach At Lake Waxhoma Dam Fixed Temporarily, Situation Under Control. There are a couple of news report videos at that link. The first one is less than 2 minutes and has some great images of the breach.

According to Mayor Kelley, once the hole was discovered, crews immediately started working to fill it and slow the flow of water coming through. Kelley said that crews brought 550 tons of large rock and material to build up around the mouth of the dam to help slow the water down.

The dam is rated "high hazard." That means if it did fail, there is a large potential for destruction. The lake contains about 2.5 million cubic meters or 660 million gallons of water.

After they added the rock and some dirt they declared victory.

Mayor Kelley said that due to the high amounts of rain that hit the area in the past few days, as well as the fact that the dam is designated a "high-hazard," it was a concerning situation when they first got word. However, Kelley stressed that there is no imminent danger to the area and officials do not believe the dam will collapse.

That was a week ago. This week, they are not so certain. City Of Barnsdall Pumping Water Out Of Lake Waxhoma In Effort To Relieve Pressure From Leaking Dam

Heavy rains have caused the temporary fix from last week to erode.

Mayor Johnny Kelley said that is just part of the reason why water is flowing over County Road 2331 and into a creek. Because of a weak spot in the dam, Kelley said water is flowing under the spillway, instead of over as is intended.

So they are pumping water out of the lake. Which will cause its own set of problems, as the lake appears to be a primary source of water for people in the area. And to make matters worse there is a boil order in effect for residents of the area.

The image above shows the spillway. As in other cases of dam failure, you can see vegetation growing out of the spillway. This is a maintenance issue.

It was a good thing there was a good guy with a gun on hand. Sheriff’s office: ex-boyfriend shot while breaking into home

Just before 1 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a shooting on Cooper Estates Ln NW, KOMO-TV reported. The sheriff’s office says the man had forced his way into his ex-girlfriends home armed with a metal pipe. The woman, her children, and her current boyfriend were inside the home at the time.

Police say the woman’s boyfriend allegedly shot the man as he was breaking into her home.

Once he gets out of the hospital, he will be booked for various charges including assault.

And it looks like self-defense is still legal in Washington state.

She Should Never Have Been Charged With Murder

The judge agreed with that statement. Judge drops murder charges against woman who shot dead ex-husband after he tried to rape her | Daily Mail Online

She killed him under circumstances that scream self-defense, but prosecutors hate self-defense, so they charged her with murder.

A district judge in Sanders County dismissed all charges against Rachel Bellesen, 38, with prejudice on Tuesday.

That means the proscutor cannot refile the charges. They will have to vent their hatred of self-defense on someone else.

On the evening of October 8, Bellesen's ex-husband and the father of her children, Jacob Glace, used threats against their son to lure her to a local swimming pool, where she said he tried to rape her twice before she shot him.

How Much Is a Life Worth?

Police said two other drivers yielded to allow Campione to cross the drive, but Allen made an improper left turn, overtook a vehicle on the left, and struck her as she walked, police said. The collision was recorded by surveillance cameras at the Edgewater Beach Apartments, according to court records.

After striking Campione, Allen continued to drive forward, which caused her body to become wedged under his front left tire, police said. Allen got out of his SUV and tried to remove Campione by pulling on her leg, according to witnesses. When that failed, he allegedly tried to take other motorists’ cars.

For that he got NO jail time.

The End

Today we have a song from 1967. Aside from being banned from The Ed Sullivan Show (for having explicit references to drugs in their songs) The Doors were apparently the first band to called Gothic Rock in print. (In a review of a 1967 concert written by John Stickney for The Williams Record.) And the darkness that defines Goth is certainly to be found in the lyrics of today's song.

I stumbled across a couple of playlists of modern Goth Music, and a few videos on the history of Goth. A genre near and dear to my heart. "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus came out in 1979, and so just in time to influence a lot of the music I listened to in college. (That song is generally considered to be the 1st Goth Rock song of the established genre.) Bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, or the Cure would at least end up in the Goth genre. Some of the new stuff I found sounds surprisingly similar to the Post Punk (what the suits dubbed New Wave) songs I loved. I may or may not inflict some of the songs on you in the future.

You can find the lyrics for today's song at this link.

This song is "The End" by The Doors from their 1967 debut album The Doors. It has been used in many films and TV shows. Perhaps its most famous appearance is in the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now.

Self-defense Is Legal in Kentucky

But then I thought it was. Grand jury doesn’t indict homeowner who shot burglar

According to dispatch records, the homeowner called police at 9:35 a.m. on May 11 to report that someone had broken into his residence in the 300 block of Wallace Avenue and was still inside. While talking to the dispatcher, the homeowner reported he fired one shot with a 9-mm pistol that hit the perpetrator, who was later identified as Stephen Smallwood, 35, of Georgetown.

He was taken first to a local hospital, and then to a universtity hospital, but he died from the gunshot wound.

Don't Bring a Knife to a Gunfight

And self-defense might be legal in California. Ex-employee stabs 2 barbers in Southern California before victim shoots him to death

An ex-employ shows up at a business, starts an altercation, and stabs someone. When another person tries to intervene they are also stabbed.

One of the victims retrieved a gun and shot the ex-employee.

Detectives have not determined a motive for the attack, Railsback said. Detectives considered the shooting to be self-defense, although the District Attorney’s Office will have the final say on whether charges are filed against the shooter.

And prosecutors HATE self-defense.

No Mention of Austin Defunding Police or Exodus of Officers

Because that would show Liberal policies not doing good things. Austin Police response times under question after shooting

When seconds count, police are only minutes away. Perhaps a large number of minutes, depending on where you are.

A 13 minute response time to shooting is not great. But when you cut budgets, delay hiring, (in the middle of an exodus - see below) what do you think is going to happen? Do you think 911 response times are going to go down?

“I’m not trying to embarrass anybody, I’m not trying to do anything other than shine a light on why we need more police officers,” [Austin Police Association President Ken] Casaday said. “We are in dire straits on staffing, and we need people to recognize that.”

And they can't bring up liberal policies, because that might imply that they don't work. Or they do work, they just were not correctly advertised as to the intended goal.

They cut the budget pretty severely. Austin cuts police budget by 1/3 amid national 'defund' push.

“The city council’s action to slash funding disregards the safety of our capital city, its citizens, and the many guests who frequent it,” Paxton said in a statement. “The City of Austin already struggles to combat widespread crime, violence and homelessness.”

And then the cops decided that they had all they could stand, even before the budget cuts were in place. Austin police seeing increased rate of officers leaving department, report says.

According to the Statesman, the average number of officers and cadets leaving the APD per month has more than doubled since the end of 2017 and also increased by nearly 34% through mid-June when compared to 2019.

And they are shocked to discover that their 911 calls don't get answered in the same amount of time.

When There Are No Consequences for Crime...

You will experience more crime. Here's Why San Francisco is Experiencing a Shoplifting Surge That’s Putting Some Stores Out of Business

One of the richest cities in the country has a problem with shoplifting.

In 2014, a ballot referendum passed that downgraded the theft of property less than $950 in value from a felony charge to a misdemeanor. In the years since, enforcement of shoplifting charges has waned significantly.

Walgreens has closed stores, because you can't stay in business if people just steal from you.

“Representatives from Walgreens said that thefts at its stores in San Francisco were four times the chain’s national average, and that it had closed 17 stores, largely because the scale of thefts had made business untenable,” Fuller reports. Meanwhile, CVS told him that San Francisco had become “one of the epicenters of organized retail crime” and that the chain has scaled back its security guards’ shoplifting enforcement because it’s become so dangerous.

And it isn't just San Francisco. Click thru for more of the insanity.

Protecting property and enforcing the rule of law is one of the core, legitimate functions of government. That the Golden State has chosen to focus its government’s robust spending and involvement in social life elsewhere speaks to a grave misalignment in priorities.

Roses in the Snow

I've recently tripped over the fact that most people don't seem to know who Nico was. Her principle claim to fame was probably the work she did with Velvet Underground, during the time Andy Warhol was working with the band. In particular her singing on the song "All Tomorrows Parties" gets mentioned.

Her first solo record was completely in the hands of the record label. She hated it. They turned it into a fairly typical pop album of the day (late 1960s), even adding strings and flutes. She said it made her cry to listen to it.

With her 2nd solo album, she wrote her own songs, played a very dissonant harmonium, abandoned the bleached-blonde look of a pop artist, went to red hair and dressed all in black. (She is sometimes called the first Goth Chick because of this change.) It would be nearly 10 more years before she went back to her natural dark brown.

The song usually often mentioned from that album is "Facing the Wind." But I think that song would be a very difficult introduction to Nico's work for most people. Not that most people will find today's song "easy to listen to." But then most people have trouble with anything they didn't listen to in high school.

This song is "Roses in the Snow" by Nico from her 1968 album The Marble Index.

Good Guy With a Gun Stops Hate Crime

The haters want defenseless victims. Jewish family harassed in Miami area, get help from gun owner: reports | Fox News

A family was walking on a sidewalk after leaving the synagogue when they were accosted by a bunch of idiots in a vehicle.

Eric Orgen said he, his wife, and his daughter, 16, had just left a synagogue in Bal Harbour and were walking on the sidewalk when a group of men driving by started shouting and throwing garbage at them.

That went on until an armed citizen decided to intervene.

"The guy in the car behind them saw everything go on," Orgen told WPEC-TV. "I saw him pull a gun and get in between - I mean he was almost there as our guardian angel, just protecting us. I think once they saw him they just took off."

A "group of men" versus a man, his wife, and daughter. I'm sure they think they are big, tough men for picking odds that favor themselves so severely. I would call them cowards, and other things. I hope someone got their license plate, but there is no mention of that in the article. (Hat tip.)

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's husband has been charged as part of a seven-month narcotics ring investigation after police seized $60,000 worth of cocaine, $100,000 in cash, three unregistered handguns and a semi-automatic rifle in raids on the mayor's home and six other properties.

I'm sure she had no idea that there were illegal guns in her home. </sarcasm>

[The mayor's daughter] Taylor, 10, was the only person home at the time [the warrant was executed], authorities confirmed.

It is not clear if child endangerment charges could also be brought as she was left alone with guns inside the property.

Is There Anything Else MS Can Get Wrong with Exchange?

Shouldn't a company like Microsoft have a procedure for managing this? A procedure that works, that is. Microsoft Exchange admin portal blocked by expired SSL certificate

Starting at 8 AM EST today, Microsoft Exchange admins who attempted to access the admin portal at admin.exchange.microsoft.com suddenly found that their browsers were issuing warnings that the connection was not private due to an expired SSL certificate.

Managing security certificates is NOT a new problem. And granted, this is not a major problem, but it is an amateur move. They also have a problem with maintenance, but that is apparently old news.

Left versus Left

I leave this here without additional comment. Guess Who Noticed a Certain Autistic Swedish Teenager Is Getting Kind of Fat? : The Other McCain

CCP propagandists might not understand that Greta’s incipient obesity is a feminist protest against white supremacist heteropatriarchal beauty standards. No self-respecting young SJW wants to be considered attractive by men, because feminism is opposed to heterosexuality as a matter of principle. Therefore, deliberate ugliness is progressive.

Face Your Demons

In April I mentioned that Marko Hietala, the bass player and singer for Nightwish, announced that he will retire from singing and public life. (He has made a few commitments that he is going to fulfill, before he bows out.) I also mentioned that he had made a number of guest appearances on other albums. Here is one of the songs that came from those collaborations.

This is "Face Your Demons (Alternative Version)" featuring Marko Hietala. It is by the band After Forever, which is sadly no more. This version of the song was on the compilation album Remagine that came out in 2005.

After Forever never really caught fire. It is too bad, given that I think they had some good songs. Among others it included Floor Jansen (currently lead singer for Nightwish) and Mark Jansen, (founder and guitarist/vocalist for Epica). They are two of my favorite Metal performers. There is no relation between Mark Jansen and Floor Jansen. (That family name being the Dutch equivalent of Johnson; it is not uncommon.)

Self-defense Is Legal in Virginia

You can never be sure about these things today. Edinburg man shot, killed during dispute in Mount Jackson

A man was assaulting a woman in the street. She ran to a home for help. The homeowner ended up shooting the attacker.

[Sheriff Timothy] Carter wouldn’t say what specifically led to the shooting, but said everything indicated that the homeowner fired the gun as an act of self defense for himself and his family. The Sheriff’s Office has no information that the homeowner was acquainted with Romick or the woman, Carter said.

The homeowner is cooperating with law enforcement and has not been charged, Carter said.

Though the prosecutor will make the final determination.

Self-defense is a human-right.

The Antisemitic Left Strikes Big

It isn't even covert anymore. Thanks to the Left, Jews Are Under Attack – in the U.S., Canada, and Britain

It’s clear where they are: in Europe and North America. What we are seeing in the increasing violence against Jews in the West is that when the left claims that “right-wing” rhetoric leads to violence, they’re once again accusing their enemies of what they themselves are guilty of doing.

For years now, we have seen leftists legitimize violence against those whom they hate. Remember Kathy Griffin holding a mockup of Trump’s severed head. Remember Madonna saying: “I’ve thought a lot about blowing up the White House.” Remember failed CNN host and cannibal Reza Aslan’s infamous rant of August 2019, calling for the genocide of supporters of the former president of the United States: “The President is a white nationalist terror leader. His supporters – ALL OF THEM – are by definition white nationalist terror supporters. The MAGA hat is a KKK hood. And this evil, racist scourge must be eradicated from society.”

The Left, and the Palestinian friends, are even referencing Hitler.

In Florida, a van also bearing a Palestinian flag and emblazoned with the slogan “Hitler was Right” drove past a pro-Israel demonstration. A Nazi flag also flew at a pro-Palestinian rally in Toronto.

It isn't a violation of Godwin's Law if they are actually saying stuff like this.

Anyway, click thru and read the whole, disgusting thing. (Hat tip to Jihad Watch.)

Don't Bring a Crowbar to a Gunfight

Why did this guy, who was surrounded by 3 cops, with more on the way, think that he was going to beat them off with a crowbar? Granted, the taser didn't work - they often don't - but that still left 3 guys with firearms. He is apparently not the sharpest took in the shed.

This is the video for Cop Shoots Suspect After Approaching Police With Crowbar in West Valley, Utah.

Your Tax Dollars At Work. Or Not

Depending on your Point of View, $271 Million is a lot of money. Before ruining millions of vaccines, Emergent failed inspections, raked in cash | Ars Technica

When contract-manufacturer Emergent BioSolutions contaminated at least 15 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine and millions more doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine at its Baltimore facility earlier this year, the company had been collecting monthly payments of $27 million from the US government—payments intended to help Emergent avoid just such a manufacturing disaster.

The were hired - or at least paid - by the .gov to manufacture 2 COVID-19 vaccines. It was a disaster. Contaminated raw materials. Unsanitary manufacturing. There are 70 million vaccines which are of questionable safety.

The US Department of Health and Human Services, which awarded Emergent the May 2020 grant, has since cut the reservation fee payments. The department did so after learning of the ruinous contamination at the Baltimore plant. But by that time, HHS had already paid Emergent monthly maintenance fees totaling $271 million.

Oversight? This is the government.

How Would You Respond to 5 Intruders in Your Home?

The gun-hating Left would want this guy to robbed at least, or worse. Police: Pennsylvania Homeowner Shoots At 5 Intruders, Killing 1, Injuring Another

A man opened fire on a group of people who entered his eastern Pennsylvania home to rob him, killing one and seriously wounding another, state police said.

Police in Monroe County said the resident’s confrontation with the five intruders happened at about 5:45 p.m. Monday

The guy who was injured was taken to a hospital, and he was arraigned on Tuesday. He faces charges of burglary, robbery, aggravated assault, theft and more.

The police have not released information on the guy who was killed.

The police know who the other three miscreants are, but they have not been arrested yet.

Without the means of self-defense, people will just be overpowered by large numbers of attackers.

While the investigation is ongoing, self-defense is a human-right.

The Intolerant Left

Color me shocked the LGBT community is bigoted. Anti-police intolerance is plaguing the gay pride movement

OK, I'm not that shocked, since I have been on the recieving end of that intolerance myself.

So the people running NYC's Gay Pride events have decided that the police are not welcome. Of course if a bunch of anti-gay bigots show up, who do you think the organizers will turn to?

Vilifying individuals for their job based on abstract notions of collective guilt is the definition of bigotry and the opposite of tolerance — you know, what the gay rights movement once stood for. Woke LGBT activists have become so rapid in their liberal dogma that they are now actively engaging in homophobic discrimination. To ban police is a slap in the face to gay Americans who serve in law enforcement and an insult to gay people more broadly. After all, it suggests that the validity of personal identity depends on woke political approval of a person's occupation.

But then it has been more than 30 years since the Gay Pride movement was in favor of tolerance.

Why Are Nike, Coke, and Others Woke? Distraction

If you knew what they were really up to, you might be disgusted. Tables turn as American Airlines, Coke, Nike, others are blasted in ad for choosing politics over customers

“America Airlines shrunk legroom for passengers and laid off thousands of employees during the COVID pandemic while receiving billions in taxpayer bailouts,” said Consumers’ Research Executive Director Will Hild in a statement as the campaign kicked off. “Coca-Cola and Nike have both been exploiting foreign, potentially forced, labor in China while American workers suffer.”

Is Nike's Woke status meant to distract attention from their doing business in China in the area where China is accused of turning Uighur Muslims into slaves? That is one theory.

There are three videos in that article. You can find links below. They are worth the couple of minutes it will take to watch them. (Hat tip to 90 Miles.)

Nike needs Cover for its actions in China.

American Airlines needs to Distract you from what it is doing with the bailout money.

5 Kids Stealing Cars, Crash a Stolen SUV

At least no one died. It is sort of a miracle that no one died. 911 call released of homeowner before juveniles crash SUV on I-95.

Police have released the 911 call from the homeowner who reported that burglars had jumped over the wall of his Coral Ridge home early Wednesday morning and tried to steal a car from his driveway.

He said he managed to scare the burglars away, but saw them take off in an Infiniti. The driver of that Infiniti SUV, stolen out of Miami-Dade County, would end up leading police on a chase onto Interstate 95, where the vehicle would eventually flip over.

This is the video for 5 juveniles taken into custody after police chase, crash on I-95

This Tweet has Steve Inman's "non-essential commentary." It is worth the 60 seconds.

This is a 3 minute video with no news commentary, that shows a bit more of the chase leading up to the crash, and bit more of the aftermath. It is completely silent.

Remember This When They Say "The Science is Settled"

Remember that scientists often get it wrong. Sometimes in a big way. The Silicon Graybeard: World's Oldest Manmade Quasicrystal Discovered

The rules of crystallography were determined a 100 years ago. And they couldn't be wrong. Could they?

Between 1982 and 2008, Shechtman's career had it hard. He spent much of his career being vilified and exiled as a crank. “I was thrown out of my research group. They said I brought shame on them with what I was saying.” In 2011, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of quasicrystals.

Self-defense Is Legal in Washington State

And the DA acted at Warp Speed to make this determination. No charges for man who shot alleged car prowler in Tacoma

Adam Faber, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, said Tuesday that all indications show that the 32-year-old man acted in self-defense after the alleged car prowler advanced on him while holding an object to use as a weapon.

The incident happened on May 16th, and the statement was made on May 18th. Some prosecutors take months to make a similar determination.

Self-defense is a human-right, and in Tacoma, it might even be your legal right.

Cops Fired for Doing Nothing in Parkland Shooting Get Jobs Back

And vacation pay. Law Enforcement Officers Fired for Inaction in Parkland Shooting Get Jobs Back, Vacation Pay - Tennessee Star

You can't fire a cop just because they refused to do their job. That wouldn't be fair.

Two of the police officers who lost their jobs over inaction during the deadliest school shooting in American history have gotten their jobs back, with back and vacation pay.

Arbitrators reinstated them and could do the same for a third officer as well. Federal Judge Keathan Frink affirmed the arbitrators’ decisions in a May 13 ruling

So the Cowards are back on the job in Broward Coward County.

The mother of one of the victims of the shooting, Broward County School Board member Lori Alhadeff, said of the decision, “It is painful for me to once again see that there is no accountability.”

"No Accountability." Maybe that should be the Broward County Sheriff's Dept. motto.

Life's What You Make It

A song courtesy of WXRT's Saturday Morning Flashback. They revisited 1986 recently. The peak of the New Wave era. (Note: I had to switch to the extended mix. It was either that or a distracting video.)

This song is "Life's What You Make It" by Talk Talk from their 1986 album The Colour of Spring, though it was released as a single in 1985. [Updated to include the Remastered version]

‡ "New Wave" was a marketing term that never really was defined very well. Here is what The New Rolling Stone encyclopedia of rock & roll had to say.

Musically, while they’d seen punk rock get coopted into the meaningless marketing term “new wave,” its energy, attitude, and “do it yourself” ethos had made enough of an impression to be an impor- tant influence on their lifestyles as well as their music. In the U.S. the growth of alternative rock was fueled by the postpunk spread of a nationwide subculture of indie rock, consisting of college radio stations, fanzines, vibrant local club scenes, and grassroots record labels, all of which kept the anti-corporate-rock flame burning.

A Cop Reviews the Andrew Brown Jr. Shooting

So I am going to have to watch some of Officer Tatum's commentaries. God Bless Officer Tatum : The Other McCain

First, Andrew Brown's history.

He was never really innocent in his entire adult life. When he got shot dead by deputies serving an arrest warrant, Brown was 42. He had a criminal record dating back as far as 1996. Do the math, and you realize Brown has been a criminal since before he even turned 18.

So far as anyone can tell, Andrew Brown Jr. never had a real job, never earned an honest dollar in his whole life. He was a lifelong drug dealer who was convicted no fewer than 12 times — TWELVE TIMES — of felony drug charges. He was most recently released from prison in 2018.

And then the shooting.

Now I’m going to insert Officer Tatum’s video, in which he reviews and comments on the body-camera footage of this incident.

The video is 17 minutes, but you should watch it. Officer Tatum is actually a "former cop." He resigned to become a full time commentator. And he seems to be quite good at it.

Click thru and read the whole thing, and then watch the video.
