No Mention of Austin Defunding Police or Exodus of Officers

Because that would show Liberal policies not doing good things. Austin Police response times under question after shooting

When seconds count, police are only minutes away. Perhaps a large number of minutes, depending on where you are.

A 13 minute response time to shooting is not great. But when you cut budgets, delay hiring, (in the middle of an exodus - see below) what do you think is going to happen? Do you think 911 response times are going to go down?

“I’m not trying to embarrass anybody, I’m not trying to do anything other than shine a light on why we need more police officers,” [Austin Police Association President Ken] Casaday said. “We are in dire straits on staffing, and we need people to recognize that.”

And they can't bring up liberal policies, because that might imply that they don't work. Or they do work, they just were not correctly advertised as to the intended goal.

They cut the budget pretty severely. Austin cuts police budget by 1/3 amid national 'defund' push.

“The city council’s action to slash funding disregards the safety of our capital city, its citizens, and the many guests who frequent it,” Paxton said in a statement. “The City of Austin already struggles to combat widespread crime, violence and homelessness.”

And then the cops decided that they had all they could stand, even before the budget cuts were in place. Austin police seeing increased rate of officers leaving department, report says.

According to the Statesman, the average number of officers and cadets leaving the APD per month has more than doubled since the end of 2017 and also increased by nearly 34% through mid-June when compared to 2019.

And they are shocked to discover that their 911 calls don't get answered in the same amount of time.
