UPS #2976 Crash in Louisville

There has been much "coverage" of this incident, but most people are not professional pilots. Juan Browne is; he flies commercial airliners for a living.

The left engine detached from the wing during takeoff, apparently after reaching velocity V1, which means the crew was committed to takeoff. The resulting fire from the left wing was causing the right engine to stall. You cannot fly with the loss of 2 engines. (That type of aircraft has 3.)

There are few photos, and some video.

Juan Browne also touches on the 1979 crash of a similar (not the same) aircraft in Chicago, when an engine detached from an American airlines DC10, causing an awful loss of life.

Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0

Road rage is such an insane way to spend your energy. This is also another failure of the victim-selection process. Person shot in road rage incident facing charges

It isn't clear to me why the road rage incident started, because the person who got shot pulled in front of the van driven by a disabled guy, with three kids inside the van.

The van had cameras, front and back, so cops have complete documentation of everything that happened.

Investigators say Bain’s vehicle first break-checked the van causing the driver to go around. After that Bain allegedly began chasing after the van, continually trying to cut the van off. While on Taylor Blvd., Bain’s vehicle rammed into the van during this chase which ended on Carlisle Avenue when the van’s tires were flattened, disabling it.

The video shows Bain then allegedly rammed the disabled van with the man and three kids inside nearly flipping it over.

At that point, the driver of the van, who was armed, shot the aggressor one time in the stomach.

That person was to be arraigned on Friday, despite being in the hospital.

Self-defense is a human right, and Kentucky is not New Jersey.

He Threatened Everyone in the Bar Before He Got Shot

He sounds like a lovely fellow. Or maybe not. 30-year-old man shot, killed outside bar near St. Matthews identified

He was physically and verbally abusive to his wife in the bar, he threatened staff, and then he threatened everyone in the bar. He and his wife were asked to leave.

He was even more abusive in the parking lot, and so the wife took refuge behind the security guard. When he approached security and drew a firearm, he was shot.

The info being released is coming mostly from the bar. The cops are saying very little, except that the investigation is ongoing. No one was arrested in the shooting.

Given the domestic violence aspect of the incident, it is very hard for me to view this as a tragedy. He fucked around, and found out - OR - "There is always a bigger fish."

Self-defense is a human-right.

Democrat Goes on Rampage - Biden Blames Republicans

From The Other McCain - Louisville Bank Shooter: Trump-Hater Livestreamed His Murder Spree

The guy in question supported BLM and criticized Trump, so of course it is Republicans' fault.

You see how this works? Regardless of the fact that the killer was clearly a Democrat, still Joe Biden must always blame Republicans.

And it might be that crazy people are dangerous...

Sturgeon’s friends say he suffered multiple concussions while playing sports, and wondered if that might have had something to do with his descent into murderous madness.

And it might be that since the shooter was fired from Old National Bank last week, he was either a disgruntled (ex) employee, or he saw his life not working out as planned and lashed out. No participation trophies in the Real World? Or was he too young for that insanity?

Do Cops Think They Have Mystical Powers?

Evidence and facts are for the Little People. They are Super Cops™. Or something. Officers in Breonna Taylor Raid Allegedly Falsified Evidence Based on 'Gut Feeling,' Detective Says

Louisville detectives went with their “gut feeling,” and falsified evidence to search Breonna Taylor’s apartment when they couldn’t find proof that it was being used for drug trafficking, according to a plea agreement signed by one of the officers charged by the U.S. Justice Department.

Say that again. They couldn't find proof, so they disregarded reality in favor of what they wanted to be true. Wished was true? Because hey, just going with their own prejudices is so much easier than finding actual proof, and dealing with reality. And besides they "trusted their gut" which is clearly a mechanism that God uses to communicate with Super Cops™. Or something.

And besides, everyone else is doing it.

Defense attorneys say this kind of alleged wrongdoing—making false statements on documents like affidavits and search warrants—is almost routine among some police officers. Such misconduct “is staggeringly common,” says Joe Margulies, a criminal law professor at Cornell University and former federal defender. “These are casual falsehoods that are calculatedly inserted into an affidavit in support of a warrant application. They are practiced at this.”

Don't hold your breath hoping that anyone will be held accountable for lying to a judge. Or I should say that any COP will held accountable for lying to a judge.

He Apparently Didn't Understand, "It's Over!"

This appears to be a case of "How dare you live without me." Louisville woman shoots ex-boyfriend, police investigating

An LMPD spokesperson said the shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Poplar Level Road and Emerald Drive.

LMPD's investigation found that the woman had shot her ex-boyfriend for an unknown reason. Police said the woman remained on the scene after the shooting.

I have been reading more stories lately where women successfully defend themselves from an ex with a firearm.

And self-defense is a human-right.

Another City Sets New Record for Homicides

I'm sure that the people of Louisville wish they hadn't set this record. Louisville homicides: 2021 breaks all-time record of 173 murders

I expected that the previous record would have been decades ago, but the previous record was set just last year.

Two deadly shootings less than six hours apart have pushed Louisville to 175 homicides in 2021, surpassing last year's grim record for murders in a year.

I'm sure there will press conferences in which the politicians will explain that crime is really down and that there is nothing to fear and you should keep voting for the same politicians and the same failed policies.

Of this year's homicides, the vast majority of victims — about 75% — were Black, police data show, continuing to raise alarms about the disproportionate impact of gun violence on the city's Black communities.

But enforcing the law is racist. Or something. You should pay no attention to the statistics.

Civilization rests on security. Without law and order, you are, as Hobbes said many years ago, you are living in a "State of War.".

Hereby it is manifest that, during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called war, and such a war as is of every man against every man. [SNIP]

In such condition there is no place for industry, because the fruit thereof is uncertain, and consequently no culture of the earth, no navigation nor use of the commodities that may be imported by sea, no commodious building, no instruments of moving and removing such things as require much force, no knowledge of the face of the earth; no account of time, no arts, no letters, no society, and, which is worst of all, continual fear and danger of violent death, and the life of man solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.
