No Talking Just Shooting

So if the bad guys don't want anything, except to shoot you, how do you "give them what they want?" South Loop, Chicago shooting today: Concealed-Carry License holder hurt in shootout in 1300-block of South Wabash Avenue, CPD says - ABC7 Chicago

The Left loves to say that if you just give the bad guys what they want, they will leave you alone. That is demonstrably not true, and the Left never wants to talk about rape in that context.

A 35-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle when another vehicle approached him, police said. Two male suspects got out of that vehicle, took out guns and fired shots toward the man.

At that point you have to assume that they want you dead. They may also want your car, phone, wallet, or other possessions, but they first thing they signal is that want you dead. Should you, "give them what they want?" Would doing so ensure your safety?

The victim, shot in the shoulder, was taken to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition.

As for "just give them what they want," see this collection of posts: Cooperate with Criminals.

And no, being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee of safety. There are no guarantees in this life. Still, some strategies for dealing with violent encounters are better than others.

Cooperation with Criminals Is Not a Guarantee of Safety

Bad Guys do not stop being bad guys because you are cooperating. Lewisburg gas station clerk fatally shot during robbery, community heartbroken

This is a tragedy.

Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the counter, pretending to make a purchase and then pulling a gun.

Startled, Prince throws his hands in the air and begins handing over money from the register.

It didn't end there.

The shooter leaves the frame only to return to shoot Prince again, while he's on the ground.

He didn't survive.

He wasn't shot because he was a threat; his being shot while on the ground proves that. He wasn't shot because he was resisting; he wasn't resisting. He was shot because this bad guy didn't want a witness around.

Now having a gun for his own protection may not have saved this guy. There are no guarantees in this life. The Left, however, just loves to go on with the chorus of, "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." (The Left never wants to discuss rape in that light, for some reason.) Even if he was armed, he may not have had an opportunity to respond. A barrier of bullet-resistant polycarbonate may have saved him, but that was clearly not present.

The clerk who got shot leaves behind a wife and child. Like I said, a tragedy.

They did catch the guy who, allegedly, did the shooting. He is charged with homicide, and more charges are expected.

The disregard for human life that is on display is astounding. Not shocking, really, since I read too many stories like this, but the level of ruthlessness and callous indifference toward someone's life, to execute them like this, I find more than a little disturbing.

I miss living in a civilized society.

"Just Give Them What They Want" Is a Lie

The gun-hating Left loves to say that if you just give bad guys what they want, you will be safe. Too bad the bad guys haven't gotten memo detailing that deal. Uber driver is shot during carjacking on West Side; 3 people shot during robberies since Thursday - CWB Chicago

The 49-year-old was arriving to pick up a passenger in the 200 block of North Latrobe when the hijacker slid into the back seat of his Toyota Camry around 9:01 p.m., according to a CPD media statement. Police said the carjacker ordered the driver out of the car, and even though the victim complied with his commands, the offender shot him in the knee.

Violent criminals don't stop being violent criminals because of anything you are, or are not, doing.

So aside from pure sadism, what was the reason that this bad guy shot this victim in the knee?

There are also a few scenarios in which the Left doesn't like to discuss, "Just give them what they want." One of them is a woman dealing with a rapist.

Cooperation with criminals is not a guarantee of safety, it is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. Having a gun in this instance probably would not have changed the outcome much, and Uber drivers are disarmed as a matter of company policy. It is for "their own good" that they are known to be defenseless victims. Or something.

Being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee of safety. It is also only a strategy. There are no guarantees in this life.

When it comes to Chicago, and other places like that, I have adopted a different strategy. Don't be there. In several cities, including in Chicago, the Democrats in charge of the City and the Criminal Justice system are doing everything humanly possible to destroy law and order. "The only winning move is not to play." In this case that means not being in the city.

Cooperating With Criminals Does NOT Guarantee Safety

"Just give them what they want," is a mantra of the Left on how to stay safe in the presence of violent criminals. Ask them about rape and what a woman should do, and they will scream at you incoherently. Teen pleads guilty to murder in Fort Smith robbery that left mother of four dead | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Cooperation is a strategy for dealing with violence, and not a particularly good one.

On March 24, 2023, Stucki entered the Doug’s Eastside Convenience store at 9017 Rogers Ave. in Fort Smith wearing a ski mask and demanded vape pens from Moore. Moore cooperated, but Stucki shot her six times, killing her. He grabbed some cigarettes and vape pens then fled the scene, according to the affidavit.

He was wearing a ski mask so she didn't see his face, and so could not identify him. She did what he asked, and handed over the vape pens. He killed her anyway.

Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you do. Cooperation might work but it is no guarantee.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee. Death and taxes are the only guarantees in this life.

"Just give them what they want," is the refrain of the gun-hating part of the Left. Things they won't talk about in that context are rape, and, murder, and a few other things. (Jeffery Epstein was not available for comment - IYKWIMAITYD.) "Don't clutter the issue with facts!"

Cooperating With Criminals Doesn't Stop Assault

The Left loves to say, if you just cooperate with criminals you won't face violent consequences. They never want to discuss rape in this context, but we will ignore that today. Because in this case, it is clearly not the case that cooperation resulted in safety.

Here is a news article about the incident. 'They were laughing': Woman viciously beaten at Seattle-area gas station over cash, cigs and candy

A cashier who was viciously beaten during a robbery at a Seattle-area gas station said the young male suspects laughed during the attack.

"They were laughing. They had no [regard] for anything," Leah Johnston told FOX13.

Laughing while beating her. That is the state of civilization in Seattle.

As for cooperation...

"I told him, ‘You can stop hitting me. I’m not fighting you,'" Johnston said. "It didn't slow him down though."

The guy in question wasn't beating her because she was resisting, or he needed her to do something, he was beating her because he wanted to. He thought it was funny. Because he is a monster. Watch the video and then we can argue about that.

I came to all of this by way of Active Self Protection. This is the Active Self Protection video Clerk Faces Life-and-Death Assault in Armed Robbery. I would embed the video, but it is age restricted, because it does include security video of the assault.

Compliance Does NOT Guarantee Safety

The gun-hating part of the Left loves to say, "Just give them what they want." They imply that by cooperating with violent criminals, you will be safe. They never seem to want to discuss rape in that context, though I can't imagine why.

The problem with that statement is that cooperation DOES NOT ensure your safety.

This is the Active Self Protection video Motel Clerk Gets Robbed At Gunpoint. The video is about 7 and a half minutes long.

24 March 2023

Compliance Does Not Guarantee Your Safety

The gun-hating part of the Left will tell you "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." It would be nice if it were true, but it isn't.

Purposeful compliance is usually what you have to do at the start of an incident. "We are defenders, not offenders." That means that we are not the initiators of the bad stuff.

Statistics say that about 25% of armed robbery victims who are full compliant will be injured in their armed robbery, and that could be anything from slightly injured to all the way up to killed.

This is the Active Self Protection video Two Robberies Show Compliance Doesn't Guarantee You Won't Be Injured. It is 6 minutes long. And it is behind a "disturbing content" warning.

Under the heading of "Just give them what they want," the gun-hating part of the Left never wants to discuss rape when that comes up. I can't imagine why.

Violent Felons Don't Stop Being Violent Felons...

Whatever you are or are not doing, doesn't change their behavior. Store clerk killed execution style. Suspect held without bail

The Left loves to go on at length about "just give the bad guys what they want" and you will be safe. They never want to discuss rape in that context for some reason. There are probably a few other situations they would not discuss. The problem is, it is NOT true. Cooperation with criminals does NOT guarantee anything.

A suspect shot and killed a store clerk in the back of the head even though that clerk willingly turned over money from his cash register, detectives in Tupelo, Mississippi say.

He gave the bad guy all the cash he could. He gave the bad guy more than he asked for. He still eneded up shot in the back of the head. Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are or are not doing.

Cooperation with criminals is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. I'm not convinced that it is a particularly good strategy.

Now being armed in your own defense is also a strategy; it is also not a guarantee.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow.
   — Marion Zimmer-Bradley. The Saga of the Renunciates (Darkover Saga)

Compliance may be what you do initially. I happen to think that being armed is a better strategy in the long run. When the bad guy tells you to kneel down, you have an option besides compliance.

The suspect can be seen on surveillance video demanding that Singh get down on his knees. The gunman then hops over the counter and shoots Singh execution style.

Singh would arrive at the hospital in grave condition and died several hours later.

Everyone should make their own determination, but I wonder if the employer forbade being armed as a condition of employment. They often do.

The only good thing about this story is that the suspected bad guy was arrested and is being held without bond.

He faces life without parole or death. He had been out on probation and also had an outstanding warrant. He has an extensive criminal history.

Cooperation Is Not a Guarantee

Cooperation is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. Robbrie Thompson sentenced for murder of Puyallup store clerk.

And the irony of this guy's name is next level.

First, let's talk about cooperation.

On April 27, 2019, Thompson, who was a 16-year-old at the time, and another suspect went into the Handy Corner Store with a gun and demanded money. Police said Nam gave the suspects the money, and they shot her in the back.

The Left loves to go on about how if you "Just give them what they want," they will leave you alone. Of course one of the things that violent criminals want, is no living witnesses to their crimes.

And violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are, or are not doing.

As for the name: Robbrie Thompson was sentenced to 40 years after being convicted of crimes that include robbery, and murder.

Cooperation with criminals is not the guarantee of safety that the Left would have you believe. It is a strategy for dealing with violent criminals. Of course being armed in your own defense is also no guarantee. There are no guarantees in this life.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow.

He Did What They Asked and They Shot Him Anyway

The gun-hating Left loves to say, "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." They never want to talk about rape in that context, but even with a robbery, it just isn't true. Store clerk shot, killed following gas station robbery in Goshen

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, Richard Harris was working when two men armed with guns walked inside the Sinclair gas station and demanded money. Deputies say Harris complied with their demanded but was shot and killed.

Cooperation with criminals is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. Companies love it. They often mandate that their employees, even people who are likely to face armed robbers, are disarmed. It is supposed to be for "everyone's protection." In reality it just makes the lawyers happy. (Lawyers, who will never face an armed robber as part of their business day.)

To my way of thinking, being disarmed in the face of a violent encounter is a bad idea. And so far, you are free to have your own opinion.

Cooperation is a strategy for getting through a violent encounter, and it may be how you start the encounter. But it should not be your only choice in a free country.

No one is in custody for this crime, and considering that it took place on September 19th I am not optimistic that police will solve it. Unless they have some DNA they can't identify, and eventually get that sample, I doubt Justice will ever be served.

He Got What He Wanted, and He Still Shot the Victim

"Just give them what they want." That is what the gun-hating Left keep telling us. Too bad it doesn't work. POLICE: Man arrested after 1 killed, 1 injured in Parkway Village shooting

According to court documents, Zona Jefferson was leaving King’s Liquors when a man approached him with a gun and said, " Give me your damn keys and wallet.”

Jefferson told investigators he gave the man his wallet and keys, and the man shot him anyway.

Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are or are not doing. Cooperation is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. It is not a guarantee.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee.

"Just Give Them What They Want" Will NOT Keep You Safe

The Left loves to say that you don't need to defend yourself. "Just give them what they want," they say. They assume that will keep you safe. (Rape? They don't want to discuss rape!) Man Shot In Head During Robbery In Tinley Park: Police

The man told police he was returning home just after 4 a.m. when another man wearing dark clothing and a black face covering approached him, demanding money. After what police called "a short scuffle," the man gave the robber money.

This is when police said the robber then fired one gun shot

So after he got what he wanted, the cash, he still shot the guy.

Luckily the wound was minor, and he was treated and released. It could have been serious or deadly.

Tinely Park is in the the south or southwest suburbs of Chicago, probably about half an hour or 45 minutes from downtown, depending on the time of day. (Rush hour? Forget it.)

Cooperating with violent criminals will not stop them from being violent criminals. It is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. To my way of thinking, it is a fairly poor strategy. It is certainly not the guarantee that the gun-hating Left likes to make it out to be. And someday I will find a Leftist who wants to talk about cooperating with rapists, but today is probably not that day.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also no guarantee. It is a strategy. One that works for some people and not for others. There are, however, no guarantees in this life.

He Gave Them the Money. They Shot Him Anyway

Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are or are not doing. Suspect indicted in Kenner store clerk's murder; alleged accomplice extradited from Memphis

The Left loves to go on about how you should "Just give them what they want, and they will leave you alone." The Left never wants to talk about rape in that context, but that's another conversation. There is just one problem with the "cooperate and you will be safe" mantra; it isn't true.

Rodgers is seen on business surveillance cameras grabbing packs of cigarettes from behind the counter as Sylla knelt on the ground, authorities said.

Loggins then pistol-whipped Sylla. He was about to walk away, but he turned and fired a shot that hit the still-kneeling Sylla on the right side of his torso, according to Kenner police.

Cooperation with criminals is a strategy for dealing with a violent confrontation, not the guarantee of safety the gun-hating-Left would like it to be.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow

Still, some strategies are better than others, and I think relying on the kindness of violent criminals is a poor strategy.

What Were You Doing At 15?

I doubt it had anything to do with kidnapping or murder. Florida 15-year-old charged with kidnapping, killing real estate agent | Fox News

Barbosa was forced at gunpoint to drive to a nearby bank and take $1,000 out of an ATM in separate $500 withdrawals, according to investigators, who reviewed bank documents.

The suspect, Henry Lee Lewis III, allegedly had Barbosa drive a few miles away and then shot him in the chest at point-blank range, according to court records.

Now the Left will blame the gun, poverty, society, and any number of nebulous entities or inanimate objects. They won't blame the parents (or lack thereof), drugs, gangs, their own policies, or the person who pulled the trigger.

The Left will also not allow this incident to stop their chorus of, "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." Demonstrably not true, that statement. "Don't clutter the issue with facts!"

"Just Give Them What They Want"

That is what the Left says you should do in the face a violent encounter. (They rarely want to talk about rape in that context.) Suspects shot, pistol-whipped Marengo gas station clerk after he gave them money during robbery, police say

I guess this guy didn't get that memo. The one promising that cooperation is supposed to lead to safety.

Suspect 1 held the clerk at gunpoint while he got the contents of the register, according to a police bulletin. Suspect 1 then ordered the clerk to open the safe and pistol-whipped the clerk on two occasions.

Suspect 2 was watching the door and then came behind the register and told the clerk he has three seconds. The suspect counted down and shot the clerk in the leg.

Cooperation is not the guarantee that the Gun-hating Left would like it to be. It is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter.

To my way of thinking it is a pretty poor strategy, but to each his own. Of course it may be the first step in a response on the way to an armed defense.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee.

Cops are looking for both suspects.

I Thought Cooperation Ensured Safety

The gun-hating Left always says "Just give them what they want." I guess this guy didn't get that memo. Gas station clerk shot during early morning robbery in Rose Park

After taking the money, about $200 in $5 bills, the gunman shot the 23-year-old clerk in the neck, according to Ahmed Shalaby, who is the son of the station’s owner.

So he had the money, such as it was, and he still shot the clerk.

Cooperation is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter, not the guarantee that the Left likes to make it out to be. Personally I think it is a poor strategy, but to each his own.

Of course being armed in your own defense is also not a guarantee.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow
— Marion Zimmer-Bradley. The Saga of the Renunciates (Darkover Saga)

But I think it is a better strategy than being a defenseless victim. Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are doing or are not doing. Of course in Long Beach, California, the cops probably don't permit people to be armed in their own self-defense.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Cops suspect that the bad guy then tried to carjack someone.

23 January 2021

He Was Trying to Comply, When He Was Killed

The Left loves to drone on about how you will be fine, if you just give the bad guys what they want. I guess this guy didn't get that memo. Suspect arrested in deadly shooting of E-Z Mart store clerk in Arlington

Almost the first thing he did was shoot the clerk. The first thing he did was act like he was buying something.

That's when police said Woodard demanded that Hightower open the register and shot him multiple times. Investigators said Hightower was trying to open to register but couldn't because of his injuries.

At that point, the suspect shot Hightower one more time and tried to open the register his own but was unsuccessful, according to officials.

So for a couple of items and some "tobacco items" he killed a man, and is facing a capital murder charge.

The Left and their "Just give them what they want" strategy in action. Ask them to explain what a woman should do when confronted with a rapist, and watch them start screaming obscenities. They never want to investigate that.

Personally I think that cooperating with criminals is a poor strategy, but this guy didn't even get that chance. He was shot as almost the first interaction. Being armed in your own defense would not really help much under those conditions. There are no guarantees in this life.

I Thought If You "Give them what they want..."

They would leave you alone. That is what the gun-hating Left always says. And also, a 16-year-old was involved with murder over his own stupidity. 3 juveniles charged in 3 separate carjackings, including one that ended with murder | CWB Chicago

[The victim], a 33-year-old father with one son, gave the carjacker the keys to his SUV, but the offender shot him dead after becoming frustrated because he couldn’t get the vehicle into drive, police said last month.

I suppose he should have offered him driving lessons. When I first read about this incident when it happened, the vehicle mentioned was a Jeep. I assumed that it was a manual transmission, and the thieves didn't understand that. This doesn't quite contradict that assumption.

I Thought Cooperation Was the Key to Safety

This guy didn't get that memo. Hudson convenience store clerk survives robbery and shooting

The Left drones on about how if you do what the bad guys say, then they will leave you alone. Too bad that isn't true.

A guy decides to rob a convenience store, and even though she cooperated he pistol whipped and shot her.

“I looked over again and then I noticed a gun. My heart just dropped for a second. That is whenever he told me to give him all the money. I obeyed everything he said,” said Olvera. “Then he pushed me out the way. The last thing I remember is him pistol whipping me, and he shot.”

Miraculously, her injury is minor and she is expected to recover, physically. But consider that she did everything he asked, and he still shot her.

Cooperating with criminals is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. The only problem is that violent criminals don't stop being violent criminals because of something you are doing or not doing. As such, I don't think much of it as a strategy.

Being armed in your own defense is also no guarantee. It too is a strategy. I happen to think it is a better strategy, but you are free to make a different selection.

"Just Give Them What They Want"

The gun-hating Left insists that this will keep you safe. Not so much. Gunman kills Kenner gas station clerk 'on his knees' after handing over all the money: Police

Just after 2:00 a.m. Monday, a gunman walked behind the counter of a Kenner gas station, aimed his gun at the clerk who was on his knees and had handed over all the money in the cash register.

The suspect then took a step back and shot the clerk, identified as 30-year-old Abdel Ghader Sylla, a spokesperson with the Kenner Police Department said.

Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are or are not doing.

"Just give them what they want" is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. I don't think it is a particularly good strategy. It is certainly not the guarantee that the gun-hating Left makes it out to be. And curiously, they never want to discus rape under this context.

Now, being armed in his own self-defense may not have saved the gas station clerk. That is also not a guarantee.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow
— Marion Zimmer-Bradley. The Saga of the Renunciates (Darkover Saga)

Still, I think that being armed is a better strategy than cooperation. If you are armed you can cooperate until it is clear that is not working, if you choose. If you are unarmed you have little choice.
