Friday Links - 31 March

Wombat-socho is up first with a post I should have included on Tuesday. Late Night With Rule 5 Sunday: Riley Gaines

Swimmer Riley Gaines, who competed for the University of Kentucky in the NCAA finals against infamous troon “Lia” Thomas, has had some harsh words for the NCAA and also for elite athletes who thanked her privately for coming out against “transgender” men in women’s sports.

The Other McCain - Nashville Shooting: Expert on Violence Agrees That Crazy People Are Dangerous

Oh, she killed six people including three kids, but the IMPORTANT thing is to make sure we use the “correct” pronouns. Gotcha.

Adaptive Curmudgeon - Miscellanea. AC offers up some sanity in an insane world.

I do have one question. What the fuck are people thinking?

The mix of bad ideas repeated on a loop and growing weirdness is unstable. The Bidenverse’s inevitable decay has gone to ludicrous speed.

Tuna at Chant du Départ - It all started with a woman's suggestion!!

I came across what is probably a little known piece of history that covers the beginnings of the car radio to the development of a highly successful aircraft. I got it through email, but I also found it on the interwebs. This link has most of the story, but not as in depth as the one I'm sharing below. Enjoy.

Again from The Other McCain - The Unlimited Wretchedness of MSNBC

But being a liberal in the media means never having to question your values, because you are surrounded by like-minded people, and are never challenged by anyone whose opinion makes any difference to your well-being. In fact, liberalism endows its advocates with carte blanche, a practically unlimited license to misbehave, so that Jeffrey Toobin can masturbate during a Zoom meeting with his CNN colleagues without damaging his career prospects. And if you work for MSNBC, you can say anything — anything at all — as long as you never forget that your main job is to blame Republicans for all evil in the world:

Chicks on the Right - This Is Where We Are. You Good?

This is the way. Ridiculing the absurdity of how low the transactivist community has taken the country. Exposing its complete lack of logic and its denial of basic science.

Clayton Cramer - There Was a Warning

Not enough time for police to intervene but still a warning.

Finally from The Other McCain - BREAKING: TRUMP INDICTED

You can read the whole thing. Basically, Democrats want to outlaw opposition. Trump’s real crime — why he’s actually being prosecuted — is that he beat Hillary Clinton in 2016. So now they’ve gotten one of their reliable party henchmen, Soros-funded DA Bragg, to convene a grand jury in Manhattan (where Hillary got 87% of the vote in 2016) to indict Trump on the basis of a far-fetched theory that the payment to Stormy Daniels was somehow felonious.

WaPo Doesn't Like Facts

From Bearing Arms: WaPo wrestles with 400-million privately owned guns

They take apart a WaPoo article on the AR-15. There are a lot of problems, but this is perhaps the stupidest. The article claims that the AR-15 didn't exist before the 2000s. (You can debunk the following by going to the WiKi.) Then what was it exactly that Clinton's ban targetted in the 1990s?

Now, I have no idea where Bump got his claim that AR-15s and other modern sporting rifles didn’t exist as a consumer product until the early 2000s, especially since his employer just ran a 10-part series on the AR-15 that included a look at how it’s been marketed since the 1960s, but that mistake pales in comparison to the idea that public safety is tied to the number of firearms in the hands of peaceable Americans.

NYPD - Ads Will Solve The Staffing Problem

Because advertising agencies can cure all the recruitment problems of NYPD. NYPD re-ups contract with LA ad agency amid recruitment woes

All the problems. Like low pay, and insane politicians, and the "Defund" crowd, etc. will all be solved by the right advertisement. Or maybe not.

Maybe this ad agency is going have a harder time applying lipstick to that pig. (No pun intended.)

The NYPD has quietly renewed a multi-million-dollar contract with a Hollywood ad agency in an effort to attract new cops — as the department struggles to increase recruitment levels while facing a mass exodus of officers.

Yeah, that will work.

But last year, the class of new recruits joining the force was still 5% smaller than it was in 2016 — despite the department shelling out $3.7 million in advertising in 2022.

Or maybe advertising isn't the answer.

I Like My Vehicle. I Like My Life More

Would calling the police be pointless in this case? Man shot in arm confronting carjackers on city’s West Side, San Antonio police say

According to police, the man had been the victim of a carjacking and later found his vehicle at a West Side E-Z Shop at the corner of West Military Drive and Timbercreek Drive. That’s when, police say, he went to confront the assailants inside the store.

They opened fire striking him in the arm. He could have been hit in the head or the heart. He should feel lucky that they are terrible shots.

So he got his car back. Well, maybe. I'm sure the cops wanted to see what evidence they could get from it, since there was a shooting.

I know there will be people in the comments about how "We have to stand up to the criminals." That's fine if you think that is what you need and/or want to do.

Self-defense Hat Trick in Houston

But then it is Texas. 3 would-be robbers, burglars shot in Houston while committing crimes within 24 hours

A robber tried to steal a backpack from a disabled veteran. The robber was shot for his trouble; he will survive.

A burglar got into a shootout with a retired cop. Both were shot, and both are expected to survive.

A robber decided to rob two food truck workers. He was shot and killed.

"Crime is down compared to last year, a little bit lower," said HPD Lt. Bryan Bui. "But, it can happen at any given time. You never know when it’s going to happen. People just need to watch out and be aware of their surroundings."

Did The Chicago Tribune Work to Free Guilty Men?

Because journalists love to be "reformers" and they hate Criminal Justice. Justice, or criminal justice is not social justice. But then social justice is not really justice. Chicago Tribune, Eric Zorn under Fire Again | Chicago Contrarian

And it didn't help that the Cook County State's Attorney's Office was afraid of bad press, and hungry for good public relations. Justice? Don't be a fool.

There were two separate cases where the Tribune lobbied to have the convictions overturned. They both were. Neither was retried, and the CCSAO got some great press out of it. In the meantime Justice is still on vacation in the Windy City.

These are chilling claims being made in federal court about the Chicago media, but not one mainstream outlet in Chicago is willing to report on it or pursue the evidence that some exoneration cases in Chicago are being driven as much by media activism as any evidence. This would be same media talking heads regularly demanding “accountability,” “transparency,” and alleging a “code of silence” exists within the police department in one mind-numbing article after another, articles repeated time and again in a city imploding from violence by offenders who clearly have little fear of the police at all.

But then things are never quite what they seem in Chicago.

The problem with that statement is that cooperation DOES NOT ensure your safety.

Electric Vehicles - A Not So Green Solution

How many minor car crashes are there every day in America? Scratched EV battery? Your insurer may have to junk the whole car | Reuters

For many electric vehicles, there is no way to repair or assess even slightly damaged battery packs after accidents, forcing insurance companies to write off cars with few miles - leading to higher premiums and undercutting gains from going electric.

And now those battery packs are piling up in scrapyards in some countries, a previously unreported and expensive gap in what was supposed to be a "circular economy."

Some companies are making it easier (somewhat) to repair or replace batteries. Tesla has made the opposite design decision.

EVs constitute only a fraction of vehicles on the road, making industry-wide data hard to come by, but the trend of low-mileage zero-emission cars being written off with minor damage is growing. Tesla's decision to make battery packs "structural" - part of the car's body - has allowed it to cut production costs but risks pushing those costs back to consumers and insurers.

One of the principles of the environmental movement from way back in the day is the 3-part mantra, "Reduce. Reuse. Recycle." EVs fall flat on the all of those fronts. They require large amounts of mining heavy metals, the batteries are difficult or impossible to recycle, and they cannot be repaired (which I take as the reuse portion of that motto). So how exactly are they saving the world?

Do you really believe that a coal-powered electric grid, subject to transmission losses and the like is more sound than a modern engine? (Hat tip to Granite Grok: Another Electric Vehicle Fail – Even Minor Collision Damage Can Equal “Junked” Vehicle)

Adieu

Rammstein released an album in April of 2022, Zeit. They released the 5th single from the album in December.

And since Rammstein sings in German, here is a link to the lyrics and their English translation.

Rammstein videos are always interesting and sometimes disturbing. This one is no exception to the interesting rule, and doesn't rise to the level of "disturbing." OK, so it's a little disturbing; it's not as bad as some of their videos.

This song is "Adieu" by Rammstein from the 2022 album Zeit.

Almost 98 Percent of Mass Shootings Take Place in "Gun Free Zones"

The study covers between 1998 and 2018. Are we shocked by this? Crime Prevention Research Center brings us the following. UPDATED: Mass Public Shootings keep occurring in Gun-Free Zones: 97.8% of attacks since 1950

So they aren't really gun free zones, they are defenseless victim zones.

While the first part of the discussion here goes through each mass public shooting from 2009 to 2014 discussed in the Bloomberg report. At the end of the post, we have a response to Everytown’s response to our post.

We have since updated our information up through May 30, 2018.

Gun Free Zones - if all you do is put up a sign - Do. Not. Work. The latest example is the incident in Tampa. See the story that is after the embedded video for the canonical example.

Shocking, Gun Free Zone Sign Didn't Stop This Tampa Gunman as Bouncer Stops Potential Mass Shooting

The classic example of a gun-free-zone paving the way for the bad guy is the tragedy of Nikki and Ben Goeser. This is next-level stalking. Nikki Goeser: My husband was shot dead in a gun-free zone – Now his imprisoned killer sends me love letters

Ben and I used to run a karaoke business in the evenings, and I would usually carry my permitted concealed handgun with me. But, at the time, Tennessee did not allow carrying in restaurants that served alcohol. While I obeyed the law, Ben’s murderer did not. He had no permit to carry, and he brought a gun into a gun-free zone.

In April 2009, the murderer shot my husband seven times in front of 50 witnesses. The whole attack was recorded by the restaurant’s security cameras.

Continuing to harass his victim while he's in prison is felony stalking. Despite that, the Tennessee prison system was giving him early-release credits for good behavior. Nikki Goeser is fighting that, and trying to get new charges brought to keep him in prison. He is clearly a threat to her and people around her.

Cops Have No Sense of Humor

So a black rapper, Afroman, from LA moves to rural Ohio. The cops are sure he is up to no good, and raid his house. They find nothing.

Then he uses his surveillance video of their raid, including the destruction of his property, to show what idiots they are. So they double down. Afroman sued by law enforcement officers who raided his home

They are crybabies. They were made to look like idiots on YouTube, Instagram, etc. because they were IN FACT acting like idiots. Probably they weren't acting, but I don't know them so I can't say. Though filing this lawsuit is pretty idiotic.

The suit says that the videos have exposed them to ridicule. So here's me doing my part to extend the ridicule. They have apparently never heard of the Streisand Effect. Well, maybe now they will know that sometimes it is just better to admit defeat.

Seven members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office who raided Joseph Foreman’s home last year are now suing him claiming, among other things, that he invaded their privacy.

Four deputies, two sergeants and a detective are claiming Foreman (a.k.a. “Afroman”) took footage of their faces obtained during the raid and used it in music videos and social media posts without their consent.

The warrant, part of which is visible in one of the videos states they are looking for a kidnapping victim and evidence of drug trafficking. What they found is nationwide ridicule for being idiots.

So in the spirit of dog-piling on the idiot cops, I will have links to the videos below. Because I feel it is my patriotic duty to highlight as many instances of cops being idiots as I can find. I will also highlight when they do good things, but in this case the cops are Grade A, Premium Idiots.

They didn't find what the warrant said they would find. They disconnected the security cameras. OK, under what legal theory do they have the right to disconnect cameras? I know they don't like to be recorded, but so what. And their records say that they seized $5,031 in cash during the raid, but when they returned the money it was $400 light. Now they claim, it was a clerical error. "There's nothing to see here. We didn't steal $400 dollars. We swear! Move along."

This is an interesting comment from Afroman. It is hard to say that he is wrong, when he says that they might have been hoping for an excuse to kill the black man.

I think they just wanted to kill me "by accident" in the raid. They wanted me to sneeze or the wind to blow the wrong way. Wanted me to pop up in my underwear holding a remote control to the TV, so they can blame - you know - the remote. So they can say that's a pistol. "I thought my partner's life was in danger."

The first song we have is embedded, because I think I like it best. "Will You Help Me Repair My Door" by Afroman.

The next song is "Lemon Pound Cake" by Afroman.

Mama's lemon pound cake, it tastes so nice.
It made the sheriff want put down his gun, and cut him a slice.

And finally we have "Why Are You Disconnecting My Video Camera?" This is my least favorite of the three, but it is still pretty funny.

United Federation of Teachers’ Against "Whiteness"

You can't make this stuff up. UFT sponsoring seminar on 'harmful effects of whiteness'

That is the United Federation of Teachers, the union that represents the teachers in New York City public schools.

News of the event has some seething — including Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli, who said he was contacted by many fuming teachers and parents wondering why fighting so-called “toxic whiteness” has become a top priority for a lefty union representing a school system plagued by poor performance in the classroom.

This is insane. But then everything about NYC is insane.

Crazy People Are Dangerous

And it pays to be alert. Devil mask shooter suspect Michael Rudman tackled at Tampa strip club

An armed man wearing a devil mask on his face, dressed in red with a gun and flashlight in his hands is in custody after a Florida bouncer stopped him from entering a well-known Tampa strip club.

A bouncer outside the club wasn't paying him much heed, but then noticed that he had a gun in his hand and proceeded to stop the guy and get the gun out of hand.

There are more details if you click thru. Detectives did say that the crazy guy with the gun had been to the club the night before this incident.

One round from the gun discharged during the struggle, and two "unidentified" men came out of the club and helped the bouncer subdue the crazy guy.

The crazy guy is charged with several things including being in possession of a firearm while under a "Risk Protection Order."

It doesn't appear that the bouncer was armed security. I suppose that would be unsafe, or something.

Racist Gun-control Law in North Carolina Repealed

You would think the Liberals would celebrate. Republican Lawmakers Pass Repeal Of ‘Jim Crow’ Law, And Dems Are Seething

Or maybe not.

The law passed in 1919 was specifically meant, no matter what it said, to circumvent the 14th amendment, which meant that all gun control laws needed to be racially neutral.

The bill, SB 41, would repeal the state’s pistol purchase permit requirement that tasks local sheriffs with ensuring residents have “good moral character” before they are issued a firearm. The law, established in 1919, was intended to circumvent the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868, which required that gun control laws be racially neutral, according to attorney and historian options in the North Carolina Law Review.

So progressives are actually going on about how a Jim-Crow-era law is necessary to keep the good people of North Carolina safe. Really.

Today, black North Carolinians are still nearly three times as likely to be denied a permit compared to the white population, according to the North Carolina Law Review.

One Democrat is actually going on about how allowing law-abiding black citizens to own firearms will make black communities "less safe." Natalie Murdock doesn't seem to have much faith in law-abiding black citizen to, you know, obey the law.

What this will actually do is allow the law-abiding citizens of North Carolina to defend themselves from the non-law-abiding part of the population.

Missouri Eliminates a Class of Defenseless Victim Zones

The Left has kittens. (Is anyone surprised?) MO bill would allow guns in churches with permit | The Kansas City Star

Because it isn't like churches or synagogues have been the target of bad guys ever. And there not any instances where armed people at the church stopped a bad guy. Or is there?

Bogard said Jewish communities across the country already spend thousands of dollars on security measures to keep themselves safe from hateful people with access to guns.

“That’s money that should be going into serving our communities and serving the vulnerable and teaching people, and instead it is a Second Amendment tax on our First Amendment rights,” Bogard said.

They quote a Mennonite pastor who said that they are peaceful and shouldn't be carrying firearms. Then her parishioners won't be carrying. Of course that means that they are a voluntary defenseless victim zone. I'm sure that won't turn out badly.

You have to consider what the Jewish community in New York is going through. Orthodox Jews suing over NY gun law restrictions for synagogues. Antisemitic hate crimes have been on the rise, and Jewish individuals, businesses, schools, and synagogues have been targets of attacks. They don't feel that the state declaring them to be a gun-free-zone defenseless victim zone is the best strategy to keep their community safe. I agree.

Snow + Rain = Flooding in Southern California

Southern California has been hit with a lot of rain and snow, to the point where folks have been snowbound in part of the southern range of the Sierras for more than a week. And because they are Californians, and prepping is something only Republicans in Idaho do, they were unprepared. For snow in the California mountains

For example: Large 'HELP US!!' message spotted in SoCal snow as some residents grow desperate

Residents in the Southern California are pleading for more help as some remain in an increasingly desperate situation after a massive snowstorm overwhelmed the area.

They're distressed. "Daddy government promised to save me, but that hasn't happened." No shit. Your first mistake was assuming that the government would do anything right. Your second mistake was not having food, medicine, etc. for weeks and months at a time. "But only crazy preppers do that, right?" Well, if you had weeks of food, you wouldn't be writing "Help Us" in the snow.

If they exact same things happens again next year, the same people will be asking, Why isn't the government taking care of me?" Because it isn't their job to take care of themselves. That is someone else's job.

And really the government is doing some stuff. Juan Browne of the Blancoliro YouTube channel has some updates on the infrastructure of Southern California. And lack thereof. Actally the last part of the video is about improvements being made to the infrastructe to make several dams in the area safer than they were 10 years ago. (Oroville's near-disaster did have some impact, it seems.)

This is Juan Browne's video California Flooding 22 March 23 Tulare Lake

Who Could Have Predicted This? Everyone

This guy was always going to kill someone. Violence Against Women Update: Some Cases Are Just So … Unpredictable

Here is the basis of the prediction

So let’s add up the clues here:

  1. 2001 stabbing a man;
  2. 2014 attacking a woman with a hammer;
  3. Warrant for his arrest on probation violation;
  4. Carried a knife all the time “to protect himself”
    and
  5. Latin Kings tattoo on his neck.

Here's how that prediction played out.

Keep your heart medication handy, folks, because you might go into cardiac arrest when I tell you that Robert Castillo had been arrested again, and is this time charged with murder after he stabbed his girlfriend 20 times during a Bible study at his sister’s home.

Click thru for the details, including his denial when told she died.

Feminists, who love to lecture us about “violence against women,” have said nothing about this case, for some reason.

So why would you associate with someone like this? Because you saw "the good in him?" That didn't work out to well in this case. There is a simple lesson here. If you hang out with bad people, bad things will happen. I would say that there are also a few other lessons, including some about the Criminal Justice System.

The Other McCain is up first with The Answer Is ‘Yes’

Here’s the thing: If Democrats could “elect” Joe Biden as president — because 81 million votes, am I right? — and install the brain-damaged John Fetterman in the Senate, they don’t fear any political consequences, no matter how extreme their behavior.

Again from The Other McCain - Hiding In Plain Sight: Jeanette Jennings and Transgender Munchausen by Proxy

“Jazz Jennings” is the victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, and the perpetrator of this atrocity is his/“her” mother, Jeanette. (By the way, the surname “Jennings” is a pseudonym.) Some day, maybe, if the world regains its sanity, psychologists will study this case as a textbook example of how manipulative neurotic mothers ruin their children’s lives.

Compliance Does Not Guarantee Your Safety

The gun-hating part of the Left will tell you "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." It would be nice if it were true, but it isn't.

Purposeful compliance is usually what you have to do at the start of an incident. "We are defenders, not offenders." That means that we are not the initiators of the bad stuff.

Statistics say that about 25% of armed robbery victims who are full compliant will be injured in their armed robbery, and that could be anything from slightly injured to all the way up to killed.

This is the Active Self Protection video Two Robberies Show Compliance Doesn't Guarantee You Won't Be Injured. It is 6 minutes long. And it is behind a "disturbing content" warning.

Under the heading of "Just give them what they want," the gun-hating part of the Left never wants to discuss rape when that comes up. I can't imagine why.

Piers Morgan Admits He Was Wrong

On COVID-19 anyway. Though credit where it is due; not many today will admit they were wrong, not even in the face of facts.

AI Becomes Cheap, Next It Will Be Everywhere

You can't stop an idea. The genie escapes: Stanford copies the ChatGPT AI for less than $600

Stanford's Alpaca AI performs similarly to the astonishing ChatGPT on many tasks – but it's built on an open-source language model and cost less than US$600 to train up. It seems these godlike AIs are already frighteningly cheap and easy to replicate.

It is called Alpaca because it is based on Meta's open-source LLaMA 7B language model.

Six months ago, only researchers and boffins were following the development of large language models. But ChatGPT's launch late last year sent a rocket up humanity's backside: machines are now able to communicate in a way pretty much indistinguishable from humans. They're able to write text and even programming code across a dizzying array of subject areas in seconds, often of a very high standard. They're improving at a meteoric rate, as the launch of GPT-4 illustrates, and they stand to fundamentally transform human society like few other technologies could, by potentially automating a range of job tasks – particularly among white-collar workers – people might previously have thought of as impossible.

Companies working in AI, and even Open AI are working to restrict that, but it is all via terms and conditions, and all of LLaMA model was leaked on 4chan within a week of its announcement.

You can't stop an idea, not even a bad idea.

So what's to stop basically anyone from creating their own pet AI now, for a hundred bucks or so, and training it however they choose? Well, OpenAI's terms of service do say "you may not ... use output from the Services to develop models that compete with OpenAI." And Meta says it's only letting academic researchers use LLaMA under non-commercial licenses at this stage, although that's a moot point, since the entire LLaMA model was leaked on 4chan a week after it was announced.

Oh, and another group says it's managed to eliminate the cloud computing cost, releasing more code on Github that can run on a Raspberry Pi, and complete the training process within five hours on a single high-end nVidia RTX 4090 graphics card.

What's to stop anyone from running amok? Absolutely nothing.

Welcome to the brave new world. I hope it doesn't turn into one of the many versions of dystopia we've seen in Sci-Fi.

And for the rest of us, well, it's hard to say, but the awesome capabilities of this software could certainly be of use to an authoritarian regime, or a phishing operation, or a spammer, or any number of other dodgy individuals.

Is the Golden Age of SPAM upon us? I hope not.

Another Failure of the Victim-selection Process

Or how would you respond to an intruder in your home at 5:30 in the morning? Homeowner shot and killed intruder, police say

Officers with the DeKalb Police Department were called around 5:30 a.m. to respond to reports of shots fired at a residential home in Decatur.

This being Georgia, the neighbors were not shocked that someone protected his home.

“I mean, it’s always good to protect your home and family and stuff like that,” a neighbor said.

Georgia has the Castle Doctrine. The reporter isn't clear on whether they have "Stand Your Ground." Since the defender was at home, Castle Doctrine applies. And self-defense is a human-right.

I Would Be More Grateful to the Gun Manufacturer

That is probably what ultimately kept the family safe. Family Grateful For Rogers County Dispatcher After Man Tries To Break Into Home

Courtney Williams tried to break into a random house after getting into a hit-and-run accident and then running out of gas.

The Swinneys were sound asleep when they woke around 1 a.m. to their worst nightmare.

"I kept hearing bang bang and it just was reverberating through the walls," said Jennifer Swinney.

The husband screamed that he was armed, and the nut job never made it into the house.

Cops did eventually arrest Williams, and he kept changing his story. Cops used the terms "medicated" and "Under the influence." Crazy people are dangerous, and so are people under the influence.

As for if the homeowner actually had to defend himself...

"By this man's grace and the grace of God, he wasn't shot. Certainly, our homeowner would have been well within his rights. This guy's in his castle and we've got our knucklehead out here trying to kick the door down," said Sheriff Scott Walton, RCSO.

Oklahoma after all has not morphed into New Jersey. And self-defense is a human-right.

Oklahoma Bill Makes It Easier to Arm Teachers

The Left immediately has kittens. House Republicans pass bill to loosen requirements for teachers having firearms in classrooms

House Bill 2139 would add a concealed carry license to the list of approved licenses teachers must obtain in order to bring a gun into the classroom.

Current law states teachers must hold an armed security guard license or a valid reserve certification as a peace officer, in order to carry on campus.

The argument against arming teachers? "My gun is just hanging out" if I'm doing something.

If your gun is "just hanging out" you're a fucking idiot. But that is the Left.

So the bill passed along party lines, 79 to 20, and heads to the Senate.

And here is a picture of the most useless group of people in Texas, the Uvalde SWAT Team. We arm teachers, so lives are not lost thinking we can rely on people like this. (But hey, they are diverse, and they look cool - at least they think they do!)

Addicted to Fear

From The Other McCain we have The COVID-19 Fetish Community

Imagine wearing a respirator, not a cloth or paper mask, but a respirator - it is what I wear when I am working with epoxy and other toxic stuff - everyday. For fear of Covid, of course.

John Hoge blogged about the person pictured above with the headline “I’m Not Making This Up, You Know,” and yet at first, I didn’t believe it. Surely, I thought, this must be some kind of satire — a 4chan troll, a parody of extreme COVID-19 paranoia. But then I checked her Twitter timeline and discovered that (a) not only is she real, but (b) she’s part of an online hive of thousands of viral panic-mongers.

I guess I'm not surprised that people are still manipulated by the fear mongers. After all, it wasn't that long ago that a majority of people were manipulated.

Far be it from me to spread “misinformation” or “conspiracy theories,” but when an industry lobbies government to make their products mandatory? Wake up and smell the corruption.

Click thru for a photo the insanity.

Open Borders - What Could Go Wrong

Terrorism? What are you talking about. Border Agents Arrest 16 People on FBI’s Terror Watchlist at Mexico Crossing

US Border Patrol agents stopped 16 people on the FBI’s terror watch list who illegally crossed into the country from Mexico, authorities said this week — with new data showing border arrests this year are on pace to surpass 2022’s record.

16 people in one week. And those are the people the caught.

The number has jumped considerably compared to 157 in the fiscal year 2021 and 196 in the fiscal year 2020. Between 2017 and 2020 there were eight terror watch-list arrests between ports of entry and in 2021 there were only 15.

The Biden administration has presided over a record surge in illegal immigration — with nearly 2.4 million illegal border-crossing arrests in fiscal year 2022.

There are so many things wrong about what is going on at the border. Terror is high on my list of the worst that could happen.

The Destruction of California

I'm not sure why YouTube dropped this in my path. It isn't Woke so they shouldn't be pushing it, and I don't' watch much political commentary on YT. Some, but most of my YT viewing is either about movies and other pop culture, or music.

California Insider is a channel hosted by Siyamak Khorrami of The Epoch Times Southern California. The video embedded below is about the destruction of Santa Monica - home to the famous pier. It had been a tourist destination for decades. It has shown up in any number of TV shows and movies. Now it is overrun by homelessness, drugs, and crime. Since it is a long video, I went searching for a shorter version. While I didn't find a short on the video in question, it wasn't hard to find one on the same topic. That topic is how rogue prosecutors, who refuse to prosecute crime, are destroying California. It applies to other places as well, such as Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, but today's video is from The Left Coast.

This is a short video, less than 1 minute, from California Insider titled One Minute To Understand How California Is Becoming Unsafe.

This is California Insider's long-form video Resident Tells How California's Famous Beach Town Is Getting Unsafe | Matt Wilson. It is 27 minute video, so plan accordingly. If you don't have 27 minutes, I can completely recommend the first two minutes, which is the intro; it is not quite the tl;dr version. Maybe watch that now and watch the rest another time.

Monsieur's Departure

Here is a song that has some energy, but won't be too jarring before the coffee has a chance to take hold. It is from a band I really like. I think I most like the quality of the vocals.

Qntal describes themselves as Electro-medieval, though I usually think of them as Darkwave, which may not be correct. They are German, but sing in several languages, including - as we have today - in English. Even though they are singing in English, here's a link to the lyrics in case you want them.

This is "Monsieur's Departure" by Qntal from the 2006 album Qntal V: Silver Swan.

Why Does This All Sound Like Operation Blue Beam?

I didn't used to be much for conspiracy theories, but given that so many appear to have been proved true, you have to look at the rest... Pentagon Officials Suggest that Alien Mothership May Visit Our Solar System and Launch Smaller Probes to Earth (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

Pentagon officials suggested in a draft paper that alien visitors to our solar system might be sending out smaller probes to Earth similar to NASA’s missions studying other worlds, New York Posted.

From the UFO patents, to the San Diego Tic Tac, to the Air Force shooting down "UFOs," there is a whole bunch of news stories that are surreal.

First off, do you really think that the Air Force could shoot down craft from a civilization that can cross interstellar space? Yes, you can be killed by a club or a spear, but it would be like a stone-age human, or an 18th Century farmer, shooting down a stealth fighter. And if it happened, don't you think a "no one left behind" motto might mean that the survivors/victims/debris would be scooped up and carried away? The whole thing has always been suspect.

Now we are all but being told that UFOs exist, and are apparently hostile. Blue Beam said that a 'simulated alien invasion' would be the pretext for impossition of a dictatorial world government.

The idea that an external threat would be used to "unite the world" was not new in 1994, with Operation Blue Beam. There was a 1963 episode of The Outer Limits entitled "The Architects of Fear" in which a group of scientists were going to simulate an alien invasion. In 1971 Ursala K. LeGuin wrote a novel titled The Lathe of Heaven where an alien invasion was seen as the only way to unite the world.

Of course I still see the Fermi Paradox as something that the true believers haven't explained away. Hand-waves do not constitute proof, not even it you want them to.

Or to put it another way: Why should anyone vote Republican, if the GOP is going to support the same policies advocated by Democrats?
