We need to remember the people who step up, and forget the monsters that they work to stop. We should remember Jordan Salinas of Idaho.

Here is the name of someone else you should remember: Elisjsha Dicken.

In July of 2022, Elisjsha Dicken was eating in the food court of an Indiana mall, when a gunman emerged from a bathroom, and opened fire on the crowd. In 15 seconds, marked from the time the gunman opened fire, Mr. Dicken drew his weapon, and shot ten rounds toward the gunman. The autopsy revealed that he had been hit 8 times. He crawled back into the bathroom, where he died.

Good Guys With Guns

From the New York Post we get the following. Hero civilian who fired back at In-N-Out shooter trained in self defense after witnessing another mass shooting

Police said the death toll would have undoubtedly been higher without the quick-thinking actions of Salinas and the off-duty cop

“These people are true heroes in our community,” Johnson said of the two men who returned fire. “They diverted the shooter and without a doubt saved many lives.”

Remember Jordan Salinas.

Jordan Salinas, 35, a healthcare worker and the full-time caregiver of his brother, who uses a wheelchair, had been horseback riding with his girlfriend the morning of the shooting when the couple pulled into the Twin Falls In-N-Out location for lunch and immediately noticed something amiss.

Good Guy With a Gun in Idaho

The American mainstream media seems to be completely silent on this incident. This morning there are finally some mainstream reports, though a couple are still downplaying the role of the civilian. A bystander, possibly named Jordan Salinas, engaged the shooter with a handgun, although details about his involvement remain unverified.

X/Twitter seems convinced.

The mainstream media likes to pretend that good guys with guns never step up.

What stays with me is the direction he moved. A man was shooting people in a burger restaurant parking lot at four in the afternoon on a Saturday, and everyone in that lot was running the other way. Whatever the investigation eventually says about whose rounds landed where, a man with a pistol on his hip closed distance on that threat instead of leaving it to work through the crowd unopposed.

Police have identified the suspect in Saturday’s deadly shooting at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, as 24-year-old Chad Williams. Williams is deceased after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

I'm sure more will be posted in the next couple of days.

Some Attackers Have 4 Legs

People need to control their animals. Dog shot and killed after attacking juvenile in Morton | 1470 & 100.3 WMBD

Two dogs were reported as loose, and animal control was in the area searching for them, when a city employee, and a Good Samaritan happened across the dogs attacking a child.

A Village of Morton employee and a private citizen stopped to help the victim. Morton Fire Department paramedics transported the juvenile to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Before Morton Police arrived, one of the dogs charged at the citizen who had stopped to help. The citizen, a licensed concealed carry holder, fired a weapon and fatally shot the dog.

The second dog was captured by animal control. The owner of the two dogs is known, though they have not said what charges they may face.

Morton, Illinois, is about 5 miles east of Peoria, across the Illinois River. It is about 125 miles southwest of Chicago, though the drive will be closer to 160 miles.

People need to keep their animals under control, and they need to be held accountable for the injuries those animals inflict.

And self-defense against a dog, is still self-defense.

Defensive Gun Uses in February

The Crime Prevention Research Center is compiling lists of legal self-defense incidents.

From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 2nd, through Saint Louis, Missouri, on February 28th, there are 21 cases of self-defense by legal concealed carry license holders.

Don't Bring a Knife to a Gunfight

Things won't work out for you. Man armed with knife shot and killed by customer at Cerritos restaurant, sheriff's department says

[Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department] Deputies said a preliminary investigation found that the armed man entered the restaurant and ran through the kitchen/service areas, "frightening customers and staff."

A customer who was "lawfully armed and possessed a valid concealed carry permit" confronted the man and ordered him to drop the knife, according to deputies. That's when the man reportedly charged toward the customer with the knife, and the customer shot him.

There is more. He apparently had a stolen truck, and stabbed himself at some point. Click thru for those details.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department source said an off-duty officer was present and witnessed the shooting, but did not fire their weapon.

Self-defense is a human right. We will have to wait to see what the LA District Attorney has to say about this incident. (Or why do you think the off-duty officer stayed out of it?)

Self-Defense Is Legal in Michigan

And for once the prosecutors seem on board with that. 2 involved in Fairlane mall shooting acted in self-defense: prosecutors

Fairlane Town Center mall is in Dearborn, a city in Wayne County, Michigan, which is located about 7 miles west of downtown Detroit.

Three people were shot, two fatally, at 1:25 p.m. Friday, July 3, inside the shopping center on Michigan Avenue. Cameron Watkins and Keonte Seaborn, both 19 and of Detroit, were killed.

The person is charged, if I'm reading this correctly, with unlawful carry of a concealed firearm. So the prosecutors had to go for something.

And then there is this:

Dearborn police Detective Benjamin Harless said the shooting was "most likely a gang-related incident."

Color me shocked.

Kentucky Permits 18- to 20-year-olds to Carry Concealed Starting Tomorrow

Why do you restrict rights from legal adults? Kentucky law allows 18- to 20-year-olds to carry concealed weapons starting Tuesday

A new Kentucky law takes effect Tuesday allowing 18- to 20-year-olds to apply for a provisional concealed carry license for the first time.

House Bill 312 expands concealed carry permits to that age group, but with restrictions. The provisional license is valid only in Kentucky and expires when the holder turns 21. Applicants must also complete required training before receiving the permit.

One teenager was shot and his accomplices were arrested after the group of teens allegedly tried to rob a man at Garfield Park in April.

Their intended target was a concealed carry license holder.

So what were you doing when you were 16 or 17 years old?

Due to being juveniles, the names of the suspects are not being released.

Self-defense is a human right, and it appears to be your legal right in Indiana.

He Tried to Flee - They Followed Him

He tried to avoid the fight. Popeye's Argument Spills Into Gunfire After Pursuers Chase Man To Grandmother's House - USA Carry

An argument at a fast food restaurant ended in gunfire after a carload of people followed one of the customers home and opened fire, leaving two of them shot by the man they had chased, Abbeville Police say.

Abbeville, Louisiana, is roughly a 25 mile drive southwest of Lafayette, or about a 150 mile drive west of New Orleans.

Cops found the car, and had two people taken to the hospital.

No charges have been filed at the time the article was written, but it was early in the investigation.

NBC's Law & Order Recognizes Reality

NBC’s television police shows are often very biased against gun ownership. But a recent episode of Law & Order SVU (S27 E21 05 14 26) gets across an important point that women benefit from having a gun because they are weaker physically. Possibly we are reading too much into [this].

They usually just lie about the guns.

An Interesting Ruling on Self-Defense and Job Termination

From The National Law Review we get the following: Colorado Supreme Court Decision on Wrongful Termination Claims

The SCOTUS ruling about Hawaii's so-called Vampire Law has drowned this out of the news, or I didn't see much about it. A very interesting ruling was handed down by the Colorado State Supreme Court on June 15th about wrongful termination suits.

The TL;DR version is as follows.

• The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that employees may bring wrongful termination claims if fired for acting in self-defense, even if their lawful exercise of the right to self-defense violates employer policies prohibiting confrontations.
• The court identified a public-policy exception to at-will employment, emphasizing that termination cannot penalize employees for exercising their statutory and constitutional right of self-defense.
• The decision highlights potential wrongful termination liability for employers if they discharge employees for lawful actions taken in self-defense in the workplace.

This is interesting because every large pizza chain forbids its delivery drivers to be armed. Uber and Lyft have similar rules for their drivers, though they are not, strictly speaking, employees. I assume that places like GurbHub and DoorDash have a similar rule. I am guessing that a lot of restaurant and gas station chains have similar laws.

Anyone with a violent stalker needs to be armed in their own defense. But the places where they are disarmed is exactly those places where they are on a known schedule at a known location. To and from work. Picking up and dropping off kids at school and/or daycare. Going to church.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out in Colorado, and to see if this idea gets transfered to other states. (Hat tip to Keep and Bear Arms)

SCOTUS Strikes Down Hawaii Law Restricting CCW

Given all the other crazy laws in Hawaii, I'm not sure how much of a difference this is going to make in practice. Still... US Supreme Court strikes down Hawaii gun law as unconstitutional

The US Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a Hawaii law that bans the carrying of firearms on private property open to the public such as stores or restaurants without the owner's permission.

The conservative-dominated court, in a 6-3 decision, ruled that the state law was a violation of the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which says Americans have the right to keep and bear arms.

As I understand it, and I am no lawyer, you had to get permission from the owner of a business before (prior to arriving) you could conceal and carry on the premises in question.

Justice Samuel Alito, in an opinion joined by the five other conservative justices, said the Hawaii law imposes "severe restrictions" on residents who have been granted concealed carry permits.

Violent Crime Drops as Concealed Carry Spreads

More Guns, Less Crime. Gun Safety: Violent Crime Drops as More Americans Pack Heat | RealClearInvestigations

A new survey of 1,000 general election voters conducted last month by McLaughlin & Associates found that almost 30% of respondents said they carry a firearm. More specifically, the survey found that 13.2% respondents said they carry a firearm all or most of the time, while an additional 16.6% said they carry one sometimes or rarely. These results show a 5.5% increase in the number of respondents who said they carry firearms since a similar poll was conducted in December 2024.

These surveys are needed since a lot of states now allow the carrying of concealed weapons without the need to get a license from the state.

The detailed statistics are interesting to me. Those details include demographic data. I will share one bit.

Blacks and Hispanics also carry at disproportionately high rates.

Domestic Violence and Self-Defense in Ohio

Austintown, Ohio police release details of May 13 shooting on New Road

Police are calling this a road rage crash, but then point out the fact that is a domestic violence attack. OK. I think of those things as being two very different things.

In a news release, Chief Valerie Delmont said a vehicle driven by Zachary Fisher, 30, was involved in a crash with a car driven by his ex-girlfriend during a “domestic situation.”

The woman had two children in her car, along with a man in the passenger’s seat, the release said.

The release said following the crash, Fisher got out of his vehicle with a gun in his hand and got in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend before coming up to the passenger’s side where the man was sitting.

That passenger was armed, and he shot once, incapacitating Fisher.

Zachary Fisher died at a local hospital.

Austintown, Ohio, is about 3 miles west of Youngstown, or about 55 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Cops are treating the shooting as a case of justified self-defense, but the DA will make the final determination on charges.

Self-defense is a human right, and while Ohio law isn't perfect, it is pretty good (in my opinion - I'm not a lawyer) on self-defense and concealed carry. (Hat tip to Concealed Nation.)

Two Good Guys with Guns Stop a Bad Guy

That thing the Left says never happen, happened again. Shooting in grocery store parking lot leaves one dead and wounds teen working his first job

You are not protected by your zip code. Pleasant Hill would be called a "safe town," but that doesn't mean you are safe. It is better to not need a firearm, and have it, than to need a firearm, and not have it with you..

But because it is a "safe town" didn't stop bad things from happening. The chance of a bad thing happening was low, but not zero.

The bad guy didn't have a scary AR-15, or even a scary Glock. He had a not-so-scary bolt-action rifle. He still managed to kill someone.

Two armed citizens intervened shortly after the gunfire began, a move [Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy] Wright said may have prevented further bloodshed. The two men, whom the police declined to identify, approached Prince before he turned the gun on himself, Wright said.

The system didn't stop this guy. The police showed up later and dealt with the aftermath. The thing that stopped the bad guy was two citizens with guns.

The Massachusetts Justice System Doesn't Care about Public Safety

If the state was worried about public safety, they would lock up criminals. They do not. Focusing on Gun Control Rather Than Criminal Control Forces Armed Citizens to Act in Self-Defense - Shooting News Weekly

Okay, so there was the recent shooting in Cambridge, Massachusetts that was stopped by a citizen with a concealed carry license, and a state trooper. (More on that below.)

What I learned today (the 19th) was that the bad guy in question had been convicted for a shooting in 2020, and was out of prison already.

The then District Attorney, D.A. Rachael Rollins, requested 10 to 12 years for this guy. He would still be in prison, and he would probably not have been shot. But the judge in that 2020 case, didn't think that was fair, so he was sentenced to 5 to 6 years in prison. That judge is Judge Janet Sanders.

Thus, another police officer, and an armed citizen were forced to temporarily incapacitate this dangerous individual where the state’s criminal justice system proved unwilling to do so. Law-abiding gun owners have every right to be disgusted with a government that fails in its most basic duty to protect the public from criminal violence while it works hard to prevent decent people from providing for their own protection.

As has been noted in several places, Massachusetts is not the most open state when it comes to concealed carry.

Licenses Delayed = Rights Denied

Mark W. Smith, of the Four Boxes Diner channel on YouTube, and Rumble, had an article published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy: Licenses Delayed, Rights Denied: How Contemporary Firearm Carry Licensing Regimes Continue To Violate the Second Amendment. It is from the fall of 2025, but I only recently ran across it.

The Supreme Court's decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen¹ was meant to vindicate the Second Amendment's text and historical traditions against discretionary state licensing schemes that denied ordinary citizens their constitutional right to bear arms in public. Yet three years after Bruen, a predictable pattern has emerged: jurisdictions hostile to gun rights have responded not with compliance, but with sophisticated resistance.

Click thru for some examples of the delaying tactics, which Smith calls "Obstruction By Design."

Mark W. Smith doesn't talk about if any lawsuits are directed at this resistance, he only mentions that the Supreme Court noted such lawsuits could be brought. Even so, I'm a bit surprised to see this in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. Maybe I have misjudged them. It isn't so much a "Pro-2A" article, as an article exposing how "Progressive" states are fighting against Bruen.
