A US man has been shot dead after hijacking a small passenger plane and injuring two passengers in the Caribbean nation of Belize.

Fourteen passengers were onboard the aircraft when the hijacker, identified as Akinyela Sawa Taylor, took control of the flight at knifepoint. Two passengers were injured, including one who was stabbed in the back.

Taylor ordered the pilot to take him out of the country, but was then shot in the chest by another passenger, Belize’s commissioner of police, Chester Williams, told local journalists.

That is some serious "Right to Bear Arms" right there.

Belize is a country in Central America, on the Caribbean Sea. It shares a border with Mexico and Guatemala.

It turns out that Akinyela Sawa Taylor was in the country of Belize illegally. Who knew, that other countries take borders seriously. Actually I knew that about Belize.

The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, is rejecting the narrative of Trevor Brown’s family, who claim his death was not due to self-defense. Last December, Brown was fatally shot during a shoot-out behind a popular Belize City nightspot on Newtown Barracks. Surveillance footage of the incident captured the ordeal as Brown was caught pulling an illegal firearm after almost hitting several men with his car.
