North Carolina Cops Used Flock Cameras to Target Black Drivers

Allegedly. Wouldn't want to imply that I think cops are always the bad guys. Officers in North Carolina allegedly competed to pull over the most Black drivers, report says

A state investigation into the misuse of Flock Safety license plate reader cameras"uncovered text messages in which Charlotte police officers competed to pull over the most Black drivers, WBTV reported.

At least six officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were recommended to be fired or to resign after the messages were discovered, according to the CBS affiliate in Charlotte. In a statement to the station, the department neither confirmed nor denied the details.

This state of affairs was discovered when another officer, or one of these, was investigated for using Flock to help a friend who ended up on the wrong side of a drug investigation.

The details can be found in the video below. One of the details is that the racist (allegedly) behavior of the cops involved goes back a decade.

This is the Liberty Doll video EXPOSED: Cops Held Contest to Target Black Drivers

WSOC has an article from after the production of the Liberty Doll video. CMPD releases names of seven officers linked to racist text messages

Channel 9 first reported on the controversial messages last week, and CMPD Chief Estella Patterson said in a news conference that several of the officers had already resigned. She said all of the officers involved were cited for termination, and she was working to revoke their police licenses in the state.

And as bigots are almost never limited in their views...

CMPD Chief Estella Patterson revealed in last week’s news conference that the text messages dated back several years, and they included racist, sexist, and religiously biased messages.

Is anyone shocked?

Sheriff Discontinues Use of Flock Cameras - Another Cop Caught

This seems to be a thing. Sheriff: Franklin County detective fired for misuse of Flock Camera system :: WRAL

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Who will guard the guards themselves.

Sheriff Kevin White of Fraklin County, North Carolina, has stopped using Flock cameras after a decade because of violations of privacy.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has stopped using Flock surveillance cameras after it found an investigator used the cameras to track an unnamed person.

Detective Janet Leonard was fired after using the system to “track every movement of a single, private citizen,” White said in a release sent to media outlets Friday morning.

I would think more than firing is in order, but I am more interested in the ending the use of Flock cameras.

“This is unacceptable, unconstitutional, and a complete violation of privacy by someone whose entire career should have been dedicated to protecting the public,” White said.

Franlin County, North Carolina, is about 15 miles northeast of Raleigh.

Click thru for the details. And thank you to Sheriff White.

Another Cop Caught Abusing Flock Cameras

And it looks like this might be the first of many in one department. NC police officer allegedly used Flock license plate cameras to track boyfriend's ex-wife - ABC11 Raleigh-Durham

The Mooresville Police Department was conducting an audit of its Flock license plate reader system when it discovered officer Elizabeth Snowman allegedly accessed the system 31 times for personal use, Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani said.

"She accessed the computers, the LPR [license plate reader] cameras, to find information and track her boyfriend's ex-wife," Campurciani said at a news conference Wednesday.

The lack of security is amazing. The officer in question didn't need to be on duty to access the data. Still think you are in favor of Flock? People always say, "If you have nothing to hide..." What did the ex-wife have to hide? Just her constitutionally protected privacy. You have to be doing anything bad to have a stalker.

Mooresville, North Carolina, is roughly a 25 mile drive north of Charlotte.

Snowman, 36, was arrested and charged Wednesday with accessing computers, police said.

Welcome to the Panoptican.

This Guy Is Lucky He Didn't Get Shot

He also suffered from a failure of the victim-selection process. Bertie County homeowner holds break-in suspect at gunpoint until deputy arrives

A man was held at gunpoint by a homeowner Tuesday morning following an attempted breaking and entering into a residence in Bertie County.

A deputy with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Sally Freeman Road in Colerain at approximately 9:15 a.m. for a break-in in progress.

A deputy showed up, and took Carlton Moore to the county lockup.

He was tied to another break-in committed in that area when a search of his home turned up items stolen from another property.

Bertie County, North Carolina, is about 120 mile drive east of Raleigh, North Carolina, or about a 90 mile drive southeast of Norfolk, Virginia.

Moore was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of possession of stolen goods.

You Cannot Fix a Problem You Don't Admit Exists

From Cops & Congress by Annie Dance we get the following. WATCH: Asheville Officials Link Deadly Downtown Shooting to Retaliatory Violence of 'Groups'

During questioning from reporters, Stepp was asked directly whether police considered the violence to be gang-related.

She stopped short of labeling the suspects as gang members.

“I would say these are two groups of individuals,” Stepp said. “I would say there are ties to them knowing each other and committing ongoing retaliatory acts against one another.”

But the problem is the legal gun owners in North Carolina, or so says Esther Manheimer, the Mayor of Asheville.

The mayor argued that North Carolina lawmakers have increasingly relaxed firearm laws over recent years, saying those policy decisions have contributed to more guns in communities.

Because she sees the law-abiding in the same frame as gang members, because she refuses to see that gangs exist. They are just groups of people. That's all.

“Personally, I would like to see gun ownership and the ability to carry a gun greatly restricted,” Manheimer said. “I don’t think it makes a community safer.”

Because otherwise she would have to deal with gangs and individuals, and not her totalitarian impulses to control the law abiding.

Self-Defense Is Legal in North Carolina

But then I thought it was. Homeowner who shot attempted burglar in chest won’t face charges, Gastonia police say

On the morning of Sunday, July 12, a homeowner fired one shot at a man who was trying to break into his home, Gastonia police reported on July 22. The man, identified as 57-year-old Cedric Ford, was hospitalized for a gunshot wound in the chest and later arrested, police said.

Security camera footage shared by police showed Ford appear to open the window of a home and try to push through it. He then used his backside to try to push through the front door before returning to the window, according to the video.

The homeowner, an elderly person with disabilities, fired once through the window.

“The homeowner told investigators he did not know he had struck Ford, but he did know his actions stopped the attempted break-in,” police said on social media on Wednesday.

Gastonia, North Carolina, is about a 20 mile drive west of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina.

When he got to the hospital, Ford told a story about a drive-by shooting. That earned him an extra charge, obstruction.

Officials said Ford was taken into custody after his release from the hospital. Ford was charged with attempted first-degree burglary and felony obstruction of justice.

Self-defense is a human right.

Contrast the week that it took for officials to make a determination in North Carolina, with the two years it took officials in the UK to reach the same decision.

Another Failure of the Victim-Selection Process

I don't think that this is how he saw things working out. Police: 1 person shot, killed during attempted break-in Sunday morning

The shooting happened after 10:30 a.m., when police responded to a reported breaking and entering on Hickory Grove Road.

When officers arrived, they found one person with a gunshot wound.

This incident took place in Charlotte.

The hat tip goes to Concealed Nation, who have the details on North Carolina law.

Because the shooting occurred directly during the execution of an active residential breaking and entering, the legal framework heavily favors the occupant. Under North Carolina General Statutes § 14-51.2 (The Castle Doctrine), a lawful occupant of a home, workplace, or motor vehicle is legally presumed to have a reasonable fear of imminent death or serious bodily injury if an intruder is in the process of unlawfully and forcefully entering – or has already forcefully entered – that occupied space.

Due to this statutory presumption, a homeowner has no duty to retreat and holds the absolute right to meet that intrusion with deadly force.

Self-defense is a human right.

NC Violated Law by Letting Nonresidents to Vote in Federal Elections

From Just The News: NC court rules state violated law by allowing nonresidents to vote in federal elections

The Wake County Superior Court sided with the RNC in the ruling Tuesday after the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled last year that people who have never lived in the state cannot vote in state elections.

The state stopped nonresidents from voting in state elections in the wake of the state Supreme Court ruling, but did not change its policies when it came to federal elections.

This is insane, but that is the way Democrats steal elections.

Hat tip to William Teach at Pirate's Cove.

Kind of wild that a pretty Dem court in Dem controlled Wake County, NC voted this way

Because The Media Can't Use the Term, "Gang Violence"

The Other McCain has the details. ‘Several Young Individuals’: At Least Two Dead in North Carolina Mass Shooting

Euphemisms are amazing, aren’t they? Perhaps you can think of some other phrases that would be more helpful in describing the likely participants in the situation that “escalated” into a mass shooting Monday morning at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina:

The AP is calling it a "Mass shooting" because several people were shot, which I suppose makes the term technically correct. When most people think of "Mass Shooting" they think of targeted attacks on schools, malls, or other soft targets. What is often described as terror. What most people don't think of is gang activity.

So what happened?

Police said the shooting escalated from a planned fight between “two young individuals.” During the brawl, several people “began shooting at each other,” resulting in “multiple victims,” according to officers.

Maybe I'm being harsh, and these two upstanding members of the choir were not associated with a gang, and none of the other people, who were armed, were associated with a gang. Maybe I'm being harsh, but I don't think so.

You can't fix a problem, if you cannot describe the problem accurately.

Another Failure of the Victim-Selection Process

From WSOC TV we get a story of a break in. North Charlotte homeowner says he acted to protect family in break-in shooting

How would you respond to an early-morning, uninvited guest?

“You don’t know how many people it is; you don’t know what their intentions are; you don’t know anything,” the homeowner said. “You just know somebody’s breaking in, so all you can do at that moment is protect yourself, you know? I didn’t have any hesitation. As soon as I knew someone was coming in, I just let it fire, let it go.”

The homeowner says he’s not sure if he hit the suspect. He says they ran away.

The would-be, bad guy discovered an urgent need to be elsewhere. And he probably needed to change his shorts.

North Charlotte is a neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite its name, the neighborhood comprises a large section of the city's east side.

He has apparently earned some points at home.

“He saved my life, saved my dog’s life,” the homeowner’s partner said. “I couldn’t ask for a better significant other in this situation.”

Self-defense is a human right, and Charlotte is a long way from New York City.

It Took This DA a VERY Long Time to Decide Self-Defense Is Legal

Could it be because DAs HATE self-defense? Butler Island Road shooting death ‘justified’

The May 2025 shooting death of a 19-year-old Autryville man has been ruled a justifiable homicide, 5th Prosecutorial District Attorney Ernie Lee said earlier this week.

Ten months. I doubt it took the cops 10 months to complete their investigation. I doubt it took 10 months for the autopsy to be completed. I believe that it took 10 months for the DA to make this determination because the DA hates self-defense, and in that time he was looking for any excuse to bring charges.

What follows is from a statement from 5th Prosecutorial District Attorney Ernie Lee.

The general rules of self-defense and defense of others in North Carolina allow for the use of deadly force when the individual actually, or honestly, believed in the need to defend himself or others from death or great bodily injury and the individual’s belief is reasonable considering the circumstances as they appeared to him at the time. From the facts and circumstances of this case, the individual who shot the fatal shots was justified in using deadly force to defend himself and others from death or great bodily injury by Guin, who had already shot and wounded one individual.

Self-defense is a human right.

How Is That Criminal Justice Reform Working Out?

The Other McCain has an update on North Carolina. Because You Asked: ‘What in the Actual Hell is Happening in North Carolina?’

A pregnant woman with a toddler was stabbed in the parking lot of a grocery store, apparently because the stabber objected to families. Or something.

Readers will recall that Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., who fatally stabbed 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a light rail train in Charlotte, also had an extensive criminal history. It is natural that readers wonder why such leniency toward habitual offenders — a “revolving door” policy — has become standard practice in North Carolina. One word: DEMOCRATS.

You thought North Carolina was a conservative state? You would be wrong if you thought that, and even more wrong in some locations.

In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump carried North Carolina by a three-point margin, 51% to 48%, over Kamala Harris. However, Harris got 80% of the vote in Durham County, 75% in Orange County, 65% in Mecklenburg County and 62% in Wake County.

Hence the revolving door. Because keeping criminals in jail is unfair. Letting criminals stab pregnant women is apparently fair, according to the Left.

The grocery store where the pregnant woman was stabbed is in one of the “nice” parts of Charlotte.

Read the whole thing.

Self-Defense is Legal in North Carolina

Or it seems to be. District Attorney rules self-defense in Burke County shooting.

I seem to have missed story from early March. Probably because almost no information was released at the time of the shooting. Not much information has been released with this annoucement.

On March 2nd a homeowner in Burke County, North Carolina confronted an intruder on his property, and fired several shots. The intruder did not survive. Police at the time believed it to be self-defense, but they had to complete their investigation before handing the information over to the District Attorney.

Fast forward a couple of weeks to the end of March, and that investigation is complete, and the DA has made a determination of self-defense. That is operating at warp speed for government agencies.

District Attorney Scott Reilly reviewed the case and believed the shooting was a case of self-defense.

Burke County, North Carolina, is about a 75 mile drive northwest of Charlotte.

Self-defense is a human right.

Don't Bring a Knife to a Gunfight

Things will probably not work out for you. Moore County homeowner holds knife-wielding robber at gunpoint until officers arrive

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, the homeowner called 911 just before 11 p.m. to report a burglary in progress in the 200 block of Campbell Street. He said he was at home with his wife when a man armed with a knife came to his porch and attempted to break into the house.

When cops arrived they found the homeowner holding the would-be, bad guy at gunpoint. Cops took control, disarmed the bad guy, and arrested him.

Police said the suspect was identified as 21-year-old Tylee Keyshaun Cannady of Aberdeen. He is charged with the felony offenses of first-degree burglary and breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, along with the misdemeanor offenses of first-degree trespass with entering/remaining and possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

Moore County, North Carolina is about a 65 mile drive southwest of Raleigh.

Some people need to study the phrase, "It's over!" District Attorney clears homeowner in deadly Leland shooting | Port City Daily

The District Attorney’s Office has concluded its investigation into the Jan. 2 shooting death of Dylan Hennessey on Dixie Drive in Leland, determining the homeowner acted in lawful self-defense and will not face criminal charges.

The DA's office operated at Warp Speed on this case, but then the facts seem fairly clear. Or how would you deal with an "univited guest" in your home at 3:30 in the morning?

Leland, North Carolina is about 5 miles west of Wilmington, or about 135 mile drive south of Raleigh.

Investigators said Hennessey and Dustin Powers arrived at the residence roughly eight minutes before the shooting. The DA’s office said Hennessey was in an on-again, off-again relationship with a woman who was at the home, and that Hennessey drove to the location with Powers to confront them.

In the assualt on the homeowner that followed, Dustin Powers was injured, and Dylan Hennessey was killed. The homeowner was also injured.

There were domestic violence charges against Hennessey involving this woman in a different county at the time this incident took place.

The DA quotes chapter and verse on North Carolina self-defense law if you are interested.

Self-defense is a human right, and it is apparently your legal right in North Carolina.

Another Idiot Shooting At Someone In His Driveway

Why would you shoot at someone who was leaving? Homeowner charged for shooting at Amazon driver in Richmond County

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the delivery driver knocked on Sidney Pittman’s door to deliver a package on Dec. 14 in Ellerbe. He told her it was the wrong address, but as she was driving away, detectives say the homeowner shot into her car with her 16-year-old son inside.

Ellerbe, North Carolina is about a 90 mile drive southwest of Raleigh, or about 75 mile drive east of Charlotte.

So now this genius homeowner is facing felony charges, and it will be hard to prove he had a reasonable fear of death or grave bodily injury, because she was leaving.

Your home is not a free fire zone.

Sadly he cannot be charged with felony stupidity in North Carolina.

Self-Defense Is Legal in North Carolina

But then I thought it was. Sheriff: Knightdale Boulevard shooting was in self-defense | Raleigh News & Observer

The suspect in a Nov. 22 shooting acted in self-defense and will not be charged, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

It also didn't take very long to come to the following conclusion, and when you consider that the Thanksgiving holiday fell in between then and now, everyone was moving at warp speed. It can take jurisdictions months to reach that conclusion, even in the face of video evidence.

Witnesses reported seeing a car crash and a physical altercation between two men before Hansen was shot, the Sheriff’s Office said. After consulting with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, the incident was determined to be an act of self-defense.

Wake County, North Carolina is the county that contains the city of Raleigh.

Raleigh, NC Using Illegal Workforce to Build City Hall

I'm shocked that policitians would employ illegal workers. Federal immigration raids in Raleigh impact one of the city’s largest projects

One of the first casualties of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s planned crackdown in the capital city was Raleigh’s new City Hall.

The $260 million building, which will be 17 stories when it’s complete, is being built on the site of the city’s former police station. Normally the site is buzzing with activity. On the morning of Nov. 18, hours after word of the immigration raids spread, work was at a standstill. Heavy equipment was parked. Workers were scarce.

Now I'm pretty sure that such a project would have been bid under complete scrutiny. So there is likely an excess amount of cash somewhere, or do you really think they are paying Social Security, workers compensation insurance, insurance, 401K matching, whatever, for a bunch of illegal workers? Not to mention just pay union wages.

Now, I was born in Chicago, which gives me a natural distrust of politicians, especially when there is that much cash flowing around, but I don't know anything about Raleigh. Perhaps they are all as honest as the day is long.

As for the article linked above, it was written and editied by journalists, who are almost by definition Leftists today, so they are trying to appeal to feelings. People feel bad, because fathers can't go to work. I feel bad that US citizens were denied the ability to have gainful employment, but difference of opinion makes a horse race.

Hat tip to William Teach at Pirate's Cove. Huh: Immigration Operations Cause Big Raleigh Project To Stop

So, essentially, the City Of Raleigh is implicated in hiring illegal aliens and people unauthorized to work in the United States.

It Wasn't About Car Break Ins

Journalists HATE self-defense. No charges filed against homeowner who allegedly killed Lincolnton teen amid car break-in

So yes, these "teens" were breaking into vehicles in the area. This isn't what lead to the shooting.

Police said at some point, one of the teenagers was confronted by a homeowner in their backyard, who shot them. The teenager was taken to a hospital, where they died a few days later.

No charges were filed because self-defense is a legal right in North Carolina.

The teenager was taken to a local hospital, but passed away a few days later.

Media bias? What media bias? This teen was shot over a break in, not because he threatened a homeowner in his own backyard.

I'm also curious about the "teenager" label. Were they 14 or 19? One is a juvenile, and the other is a legal adult. We aren't told.

Lincolnton, North Carolina is about 30 miles northwest of Charlotte. The driving distance is between 35 and 40 miles depending on the route you choose.

Self-defense is a human right.

If You Break Into Homes...

You will eventually find an armed homeowner. Attempted burglary suspect identified in shooting on Rose Lane in Raleigh: Police

The news release from police sent later Wednesday morning said the preliminary investigation is indicating 26-year-old Christian Beasley was shot by the homeowner after “forcibly entering the residence.”

He kicked in the door, was shot, and spent the rest of the night in a trauma center, where he was listed in stable condition.

The homeowner said that after he ran and got his gun, the burglary suspect not only remained in the house, but charged at him.

If an armed homeowner asks you to leave his house, you might consider leaving the house.

Self-defense is a human right. While the investigation is not complete - there is a lot of paperwork to do - North Carolina has a history of recognizing self-defense as a legal right.
