In 2025, wind turbines killed 1,160 large birds, such as raptors and waterfowl, Wyoming Game and Fish habitat protection program supervisor Will Schultz told the state Game and Fish Commission on Wednesday.

Turbine blades also killed 9,152 small birds, such as meadowlarks, and 13,423 bats, Schultz said.

Self-Defense Is Legal in Wyoming

From Wyoming News Now: Deadly summer shooting in Laramie County ruled as self defense.

This incident took place in June of this year in Laramie County, Wyoming.

On the morning of the shooting, [Laramie County Sheriff's Office] says Hefley threatened Gross via text message, saying, "I shoulda kicked your ass right in your own home." Later, Gross was parked in his driveway when Hefley drove rapidly towards him. Just prior to being rammed by Hefley, Gross shot Hefley's radiator in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Later crash reconstruction indicated that Hefley hit Gross's truck at approximately 60 miles per hour constituting the threat of deadly force.

Laramie County, Wyoming is about a 120 mile drive north of Denver, Colorado.

The investigation seems very complete.

The scene was meticulously examined, including advanced crash reconstruction analysis and digital evidence from phones and social media. Hefley's blood alcohol content was found to be nearly twice the legal limit (.143).

Four months is longer than I would have expected such an investigation to take, but maybe it was only this clear once all of that work had been done.

In any event, after reviewing everything from the investigation, the District Attorney determined that no charges would be brought. The article does list the relevant laws in Wyoming relating to self-defense.

Wyoming Opens Most Government Buildings to Concealed Carry

With the obvious exceptions, such as court houses, and prisons, concealed carry is allowed in state buildings. Concealed carry allowed in many Wyoming state government buildings starting today.

The legislature overrode a veto to enact the law. This law also applies to city/county buildings, since at least one municipality also adopted similar rules on employees being armed.

The new rules mark a major expansion of where citizens can carry firearms as they conduct business with their government. That expansion comes at the behest of the Legislature and over the objections of Gov. Mark Gordon, who sought to implement concealed carry into Wyoming’s state buildings through a rule-making process overseen by the Building Commission. But lawmakers passed their repeal bill with a veto-proof majority this year. Gordon nixed a previous version in 2024.

It seems that even in a state like Wyoming, the Professional Journalists™ don't like concealed carry. After detailing several instances of "political violence," that include arson and assassination, but not concealed carry, we get the following.

Lawmakers who pushed for the concealed carry bill, which passed the Senate with a 25-6 vote and the House with a 50-10 vote, believe allowing citizens to go armed and defend themselves is the antidote to such violence. Opponents fear more guns in more places will lead to more deaths and injuries, both accidental and deliberate.

Fear. This is the same tactic used to fight against concealed carry in every state where it was adopted in the past 40 years.

State employees, will also be able to conceal and carry while at work, with the similar exceptions, unless their job involves being armed.

As for the local governments, here is that one story I ran across. Rawlins City Council approved resolution to regulate concealed carrying of firearms by city employees.

On July 1, House Bill 0172, enacted by the Wyoming State Legislature, went into effect as W.S. 6-8-105, repealing statutory gun-free zones previously applicable to various public spaces, including municipal buildings. This legislative change allows for the lawful carrying of firearms, including by public employees, in settings where such possession was formerly restricted.

First he got shot, then he got arrested.

A 21-year-old Riverton, Wyoming, man who was shot in the torso after wrestling with an 85-year-old homeowner last August appeared in court Monday, where a judge decided the state has enough evidence to keep prosecuting him for unlawful entry.

Riverton, Wyoming is about 230 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, or about 280 miles northwest of Denver.

The homeowner admits that opening the door was a mistake.

Williams told Cowboy State Daily at the time that he felt answering the door was a mistake.

“The guy was obviously irrational,” Williams said in an August interview with the outlet. “He was saying ‘they’ sent him to my house; ‘they’ said he owns my house, and I don’t – crazy, crazy stuff.”

The 21 year old was much larger than the homeowner, who stands 5 feet 3 inches tall.

So what should an 85-year-old do against a young man, who is 6 inches taller than he is.

Without the means of self defense, the old and the infirm will be at the mercy of the young and the strong. People of small stature will be at the mercy of the large, and anyone can be attacked by a mob.

A gun is no guarantee of success in such a case, but in this instance it made a tremendous difference.

Wyoming Moves to Eliminate Schools as Gun Free Zones

Gun Free Zones are really Defenseless Victim Zones because criminals do not obey your signs. Proposed bill would create enhanced concealed-carry permit for Wyoming schools

A bill filed for the 2025 general session would create an “enhanced” concealed carry firearm permit that would allow qualified permit-holders to conceal carry on K-12 school campuses, as well as Wyoming university and college campuses, without needing written consent from campus security.

Actually permitting concealed carry WITH written permission means that Wyoming is miles ahead of most states.

Cooper’s bill, Senate File 37, “Enhanced concealed carry in school zones,” creates an application for a new enhanced concealed carry permit that would allow permit-holders to concealed carry onto school campuses. Cooper’s proposal would require at least eight hours of firearms training within the last 12 months and demonstrated proficiency with a firearm in order for applicants to qualify for an enhanced concealed carry permit.

It will be interesting see how this proceeds.

11:00 PM Friday a 911 caller reported a struggle between an intruder and a homeowner.

Officers located a man in his 20's suffering for an apparent gunshot wound near the home. A person at the scene reported seeing the man attempting to break into the home.

The apparent-intruder was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

No word on what charges will be filed.

When cops arrived they found a guy with a gunshot wound, and they had him taken to a local hospital. Neighbors saw the guy trying to break in. The homeowner is cooperating.

As I said, the moral of the story is don't break into homes, because if you do, eventually will run into an armed homeowner. They don't operate under the same constraints as the police.

According to Laramie County District Attorney Sylvia Hackl, the man who shot and killed his neighbor last month likely will not face criminal charges, for reasons of self-defense.

Both the DA and the journalist seem disappointed.

The suspect, who has been unidentified by law enforcement officials, was "detained" by police last month after he reportedly intervened in a domestic dispute between his downstairs neighbors. He allegedly then shot at a male, killing him. The suspect in the matter was contacted by the police, but was never arrested.

Wyoming Hospital Discovers that Gun-Free Zones Are Defenseless-Victim Zones

I'm shocked to discover that if you put a sign saying "This is a weapon-free zone," that doesn't automatically (and magically) keep the bad guys from bringing weapons into that zone. Now I don't expect too many people in Wyoming to be liberal, even if they do work in a hospital. This is not New Jersey.

There have recently been two incidents where people brought knives into psychiatry offices operated by Campbell County Health, in Wyoming. They brought those weapons into the offices despite the fact that there were signs saying to do so was forbidden. None of the staff had any means of protecting themselves or other patients. I think it made it clear to them that wishful thinking doesn't really hold any sway in The Real World™ when it comes to people intent on violence.

In one case the person hurt themselves, in the other police arrived before anyone could be hurt.

Based on just those two incidents, I think it's fair to say that the current policy isn't stopping anyone from bringing a weapon into these facilities. So why should every employee be forced to be disarmed while they're on the clock?

Even though it appears that there's an appetite for change, the hospital system won't be making any immediate moves to revise its current policy.

Is This the End of Defenseless Victim Zones in Wyoming?

The gun-hating Left is most impacted. The end of most ‘gun-free zones’ draws near in Wyoming as lawmakers shoot down exemptions. So there will still be some, but very few.

How can there be mass shootings without free-fire shooting areas for the bad guys? The short answer is, there probably can't be.

The sad truth is that there will still be gun-free zones in the state, but not nearly as many.

The Wyoming Senate stamped its final approval on House Bill 125 – Repeal gun free zones and preemption amendments, which would put an end to state, county and town governments’ authority to regulate concealed firearms. It would also allow people to conceal carry in public spaces like schools and the Capitol.

Now the Wyoming Capitol may actually have metal detectors and state police to keep weapons out, but most gun-free zones only have signs. Signs don't keep the bad guys from being armed, they only keep the good guys from being armed. But that is how the Left likes things.

While the article doesn't say whether or not the governor intends to sign the legislation, the overall tone is that it will become law. That could just be the hysteria of the media. "Guns, and gun owners, and ammunition... Oh my!"

Self-defense is Legal in Wyoming

A Cheyenne man was acquitted of felony assault charges when the jury ruled he acted in self-defense when he fired back on a truck after being rammed, shot at, and followed home.

The details make even less sense than the average road rage case, but then someone once said that you should never underestimate the power of human stupidity. You should click thru for those.

You should also not underestimate how much DAs truly hate self-defense. The jury didn't see things the way the DA wanted them to.

The jury deliberated for about one hour before declaring Junior innocent.

Self-defense is a human-right, and it might be your legal right in Wyoming, but I'm not sure you can count on that.
