How Do Prosecutors Ignore Evidence in a Murder Trial for Months?

So in October of 2024, Latoya Crabbe killed her estranged husband Curtis Crabbe. There exists an audio recording that covers 5 hours of the day in question. Prosecutors ignored that evidence until August of 2026.

In a statement released this afternoon, the office said prosecutors and investigators from the Manassas City Police Department recently accessed a previously unexamined five-hour audio recording recovered from a digital device seized during the investigation. The recording captured conversations and events immediately leading up to the shooting.

“Following an exhaustive review of the audio and its transcript, the Commonwealth has concluded that the recording introduces significant evidence that a reasonable jury could interpret as supporting a claim of lawful self-defense,” the statement notes

At least she hasn't been in jail, awaiting trial the entire time. She has been free on bond.

So what causes prosecutors to ignore evidence for months? October 2024 until August 2026 is a long time. Because they hate the idea of self-defense, and are happy to ignore anything that might interfere with their case. Well, that is how it seems to me. I'm sure if you asked the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, they would have a more reasonable excuse reason.

At least the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office eventually got to the evidence, and admitted that self-defense is legal in Virginia.

I have not been following this very closely, not live in Virginia. I have to say that it sounds completely stupid.

Anti-gun activists know that passage of their favored gun control laws leads to a spike in sales in the short term, but they're willing to make that trade-off because once a law takes effect its impact will be felt for as long as it remains in place.

Police say Abdul Jalloh, 32, rode on the same bus as Stephanie Minter, 41, and was seen getting off the bus with her. Soon afterward police were called to the scene where Minter was found with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

The Left never really keeps criminals contained until AFTER they kill someone.

A Virginia man has been arrested for second-degree murder in connection to the death of 18-year-old Michael Bosworth, Jr.

What we know:

Tyler Chase Butler, 27, of Spotsylvania County was arrested on Tuesday for second-degree murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm.

Spotsylvania County, Virginia is about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C.

Neighbors tell FOX 5 they heard as many as eight gunshots and that the teens had tried to break into other homes on the street that night.

The three were apparently involved in a TikTok challenge, not trying to commit burglary. Or that is their story. Sadly, the two remaining idiots cannot be charged with felony stupidity in Virginia.

This is a tragedy, for all concerned, and a stupid waste. 18 year-olds should know better, but we no longer expect kids to grow up. So they do stupid shit, and win stupid prizes.

Should this homeowner be charged? All I know is that DAs HATE self-defense.

He Suffered a Failure of the Victim-Selection Process

He was armed, and on Saturday the 26th of April he approached a man and a woman in a car, in order to rob them.

During that interaction, Hunt fired his gun, prompting the man in the vehicle to return fire.

Henrico County, Virginia is a large portion, perhaps half or a bit less, of suburban Richmond, surrounding Richmond to the north and east.

The investigation is just getting stared, but the police seem to think this is self-defense. The DA will make any determination regarding charges.

But Alaila Everett, the athlete responsible for the assault, astonishingly claimed the clear-cut video was misleading and came up with the most insane lie possible to defend her actions.

More video has been released from various angles, and it is - in my opinion - clear that she hit Tucker in the head on purpose, as Tucker passed her.

WAVY reports that Everett is now facing assault and battery charges for attacking Tucker, which the Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Office confirmed to the Daily Mail.

The attack is clear evidence of the decline of civilization. The consequences are at least a sign that law and order may be coming back to Virginia. Or maybe it never left Lynchburg.

Lynchburg, Virginia is about 110 mile drive west of Richmond, or about a 200 mile drive west from Norfolk.

I'm old enough to remember when competition in high school sports was supposed to instill good virtues in people. Winning gracefully. Losing with dignity. Teamwork. He Assaulted One Person, Then Tried to Break Into an Occupied Home

How would you respond to an uninvited guest in the middle of the night?

At around 2:30 a.m., officers said they got a call from a homeowner, who told police that a man was attempting to break into his home.

The homeowner shot the guy while on the phone with 911.

When they arrived at the home, officers said they found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

He had assaulted someone at a home nearby before he made the questionable decision to break into this house.

Good Guy With a Gun Stops Carjacking, and Abduction

The guy who got shot sounds like a certifiable monster.

According to Major Harold Heatley with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at Lee’s Kar-Go when the suspect, identified as Cody Dailey, 30, “attempted to carjack a truck, assaulted the female driver of the vehicle and told her child that was in the vehicle, ‘I’m going to rape your mommy.’”

Multiple people came to her aid, only one was armed.

Falls Mills, Virginia is an unincorporated community about 70 miles due east of Roanoke. It is much longer distance if you drive.

Cody Dailey was shot once in the chest. He was airlifted to a trauma center in Roanoke, and was reported to be in stable condition.

Dailey had outstanding warrants in Virginia. New charges being brought include abduction, carjacking, and assault and battery.

Sheriff Brian Hieatt stated, “Thank goodness for the good Samaritans that came to the victims’ aid during her time of need. We are grateful for their desire to intercede on her behalf, had they not acted this could have been a very different outcome.”

We need to stick together to maintain civilization, and the people in charge of the Criminal Justice System need to react more like Sheriff Hieatt than the District Attorney in Manhattan.

They Were Just Trying to Earn an Honest Living

They were installing a new hardwood floor inside a 2nd floor condo at 8 o'clock in the morning. She was upset and called the police. The police were not going to stop them from working.

“When the police got there they told the lady they were not going to stop them from working because ‘it’s not 6 a.m., it’s not 8 p.m. They’re here to make an honest living, we’re going to let them continue to work,'” said the man who oversees The Floor Doctor.

When the cops left she said she was going to "call someone else."

The owner tells us an hour later a man appeared and started beating up one of his guys.

“My guy went to put him in a headlock and the suspect pulled out a gun,” the man explained.

He told 10 On Your Side his team tried wrestling the gun out of the man’s hand with no luck. That’s when one contractor pulled his own gun in self-defense.

The guy who showed up to threaten the floor crew was shot. He remains in the hospital. Cops didn't arrest the flooring crew, because self-defense is not illegal in Virginia.

Some of the crew thinks that the woman should be arrested, but sadly felony stupidity is not something she can be charged with. I don't know if she can be charged with something else.

When did people become so self-centered that they object to people who work for a living?

He and his crew committed 5 robberies in about 2 hours. At the last place, they ran into a man with a concealed carry license. Ronald Lee Brookins Jr. got shot, arrested, charged, and now he has been sentenced to 25 years.

Brookins, 22, pleaded guilty earlier this year to multiple robbery, firearm and conspiracy charges. Federal law required that he receive at least 21 years.

Brookins was 18, a high school graduate and had recently completed basic training with the Navy when the robberies occurred

What he apparently avoided was a charge of Felony Murder, or whatever it is called in Virginia when someone dies during the commission of a crime. Brookins was shot, and the dead guy was one of his partners. Both of them were shot by the armed citizen.

The concealed carry guy was not charged, as his actions were deemed to be self-defense.

The customer who fired the shots, who was 37 at the time, didn’t attend Thursday’s hearing. He later said he had gone to the store to get a Big Gulp and was walking to the cash register to pay when the robbers rushed in and pointed guns at him, the store’s clerk and two customers standing at the counter. The customer said he fired at the robbers because he feared for his own life as well as the other customers and clerk.

People (family) wrote letters saying what a great guy Brookins is, but great guys don't commit armed robbery. People who don't know right from wrong commit armed robbery.

Major public safety staffing woes in Richmond continue to cause breakdowns in how police respond to emergencies.

Southside resident Christopher May felt the impact over the weekend when he called on the police to respond to a dangerous situation in his Oak Grove neighborhood. However, he said the police response time was unacceptable.

The interim police chief was on hand to say that they are "struggling with staffing."

What no one mentions is the efforts of the Progressives to defund the police in Richmond. (From 2021) Richmond Progressive Alliance-led council votes to defund RPD by $3M.

By the time that 2021 article was published, police staffing levels had decreased by 26 percent. I doubt they have rebounded in the past couple of years.

So how is it that Progressives, who claim to be so smart, couldn't figure out that not having enough police would lead to more crime? Or maybe they actually want more crime. Why? Don't know.

A jury deliberated for less than 40 minutes Tuesday before acquitting a Newport News man of manslaughter charges brought after he killed a man in a fight outside a home five years ago.

At least he was out on bond during that time.

Prosecutors hate self-defense. And they are not interested in Justice, they are interested in winning, and they thought they could win. They were wrong. 40 minutes seems like they would barely have time to get organized and take a vote, but then I've never served on a jury.

The prosecutors on the case are refusing to comment. The relatives of the dead guy don't like self-defense, but then they never do.

Self-defense is a human-right, but it won't be your legal right in the state of Virginia if the prosecuting attorneys have a say in the matter. They prosecute. The do not seek justice.

He Apparently Thought Breaking Into an Occupied Home Was a Good Idea

Deputies say 41-year-old Samuel Craig Cheeks of Elk Creek broke into the home by breaking a window in the bedroom the resident was sleeping in. The man tried to grab a handgun from the room, when Cheeks grabbed him from behind, leading to a struggle that caused both men to fall to the floor. The homeowner then shot Cheeks twice, killing him, according to deputies.

Self-defense is a human-right. It looks like the cops are calling this a case of justified self-defense, so it might also be your legal right in Virginia.

A man got into a confrontation with a homeowner. The homeowner went into his home. The other followed.

The other man entered the house as well with what police called a "large landscaping rock."

Police said the homeowner shot and killed the intruder before calling 911.

As of now, investigators told FOX 5 there's nothing indicating that the two men knew each other. They aren't sure what prompted the altercation.

I'm guessing that he didn't think this would be how things ended for him.

Still, self-defense is a human-right.

A family was just sitting on their deck.

The man jumped the gate when the homeowner and his family were sitting out on their deck, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Shelley Ward. The family had retreated into their house and locked the door when the man started kicking down the door, Ward said. That’s when the homeowner shot the man.

Neighbors, in an odd turn of events, where not shocked and were supportive of the defender. Or the one neighbor interviewed, anyway.

He was assaulting people, and he decided to assault the wrong person.

A homeowner in the area — after being confronted by the individual — fired one round to prevent being assaulted, police said. The unidentified victim was taken to to Sentara RMH and then flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. On Tuesday afternoon, police said the man was in critical condition.

The investigation continues.

According to Sheriff Blake Andis, a man attempted to break into the home and broke a window on a house before the homeowner shot the man.

After being shot, he fled, but called for help from a nearby intersection. He was taken to a local hospital. Charges are pending his release from medical care. And there may have been someone else involved in the robbery.

Self-defense Is Legal in Virginia
