Dems VS Healthy Lifestyles

The media hates Florida's governor; did you think they would love his appointees? Heads Explode Over Florida's New Surgeon General

But what has the media and the left at large absolutely freaking out is how Ladapo wants to handle things like mask and vaccine mandates.

Ladapo also had the temerity to suggest that people should try to be…healthy. Yes, I know, it’s truly scandalous stuff.

You can't talk about comorbidity, especially if that goes against anything related to social justice. (Fat Acceptance!) That is an "assault on the sacred vaccine," or something. (Hat tip to Irons in the Fire.)

Running 'Cause I Can't Fly has a Musical Interlude

A quite nice piece of music. Musical Interlude: Medwyn Goodall, “Eyes of Heaven”

Medwyn Goodall is listed on his site as composer of "New Age and Contemporary Instrumental" music.

The video is 8 minutes long or so; you might want a beverage.

How Should a 69-year-old Defend Herself from a 21-year-old?

If she doesn't defend herself with a gun, what should she do? Intruder shot, killed by North Olmsted homeowner

Once on scene, officers discovered that a 21-year-old woman had forced her way into the residence on Mastick Road and began fighting with one of the homeowners who is 79 years old.

The other homeowner, a 69-year-old woman, fired her gun and struck the intruder in the abdomen/chest area, police said.

The 21-year-old died at local hospital.

Without some means of leveling the odds, the old and infirm will be at the mercy of the young and violent. I wish a member of the gun-haters would explain to me how this is a good thing. I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, and this was an epic failure of the victim-selection process. I suppose she thought that an elderly couple would be no problem to rob.

Self-defense is a human-right.

Germany Reverts to Fascism

You can only read and write and say what the German government says is OK. Even if you have never set foot in Germany. Germany Wants To Force Gab To Censor, It’s Not Happening

This week we received a huge packet of documents with fines and legal threats from the nation state of Germany. Gab is refusing, and has refused for many years, to comply with the German Network Enforcement Act. Gab is a US company and as such we are under zero obligation to obey foreign laws from tyrannical governments.

They are expecting Germany to reach out to the fascists in the Biden administration to attempt to force GAB to comply with their censorship law.

For those unfamiliar, the Network Enforcement Act is a draconian German law aimed at combatting “fake news” on social networking websites. “Fake news” is of course, whatever the German Government says it is.

Some things never change.

Just shut up and do what we tell you to do. When we tell you to censor, censor. When we tell you to get into the boxcar... [That is basically the position of the German .gov]

F*c*book has apparently decided to go along with the fascist demands. I mean what do you expect? It's F*c*book; they are fascist in their own way, aren't they? They deleted 150 accounts that were critical of the German lockdown regime. Can't have people being critical of the German government; they might actually think for themselves.

And who would have thought that a B-movie staring "Rowdy" Roddy Piper would turn out to be somewhat prophetic? (That's where the photo above comes from.)

Australian Unions Accuse Leadership of Selling Out

The unions think their leadership should have pushed back on the politicians. Like that was going to happen. Unions turn on Setka in rally against medical tyranny - Rebel News

Furious, the protesters heckled Setka as he emerged to confront them. Among the accusations were those claiming that Setka is 'owned by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' after he failed to fight the premier on Covid regulations. Setka was barely able to get a word in under the tirade of abuse.

"Dan Andrews' b***!" was also shouted along with, "Sell out!"

But then they like to be "on the inside" and "friends with the right people." And the right people is a category that definitely does NOT include the union membership.

“Missing White Woman Syndrome”

Of course it exists. Joy Reid Is … Right?

Nearly all my fellow conservatives are shrieking in anger at MSNBC’s Joy Reid for saying something that is actually true: There is such a thing as “Missing White Woman Syndrome.”

Someone counted up how many native American women have gone missing in the state Petito disappeared. The number is not small, and yet there has been no national media attention.

That’s the thing about a Missing White Woman story — the damsel-in-distress angle only works, in terms of TV news ratings, if the missing woman is young and attractive, preferably blonde. Males can and do go missing, but those disappearances never dominate national news. It’s always a woman, and a young, attractive woman — if she’s old, fat or ugly, nobody cares if she goes missing. But the nubile blonde? Oh, yeah, that’s nationwide headline stuff, because she’s Prime Rape Bait, and sex is the secret ingredient in the Missing White Woman story.

And it helps that the media is trying its best to distract you from every travesty of the Biden Administration.

Or consider the complete failure of Democratic policies in Chicago.

During the month of August, when Gabby and her boyfriend were on their excursion across the West, 87 people were killed and 424 were wounded in Chicago. Did any of those Chicago victims make national news? Well, about 83% of the victims in Chicago were black, and none were blonde, blue-eyed 22-year-old “social media influencers.” Not newsworthy, you see?

And I love the fact that The Other McCain is using HeyJackass! for statistics. Anyway, click thru for more insights.

Hungary Seems to be Spying on Journalists

This article follows (mostly) one photojournalist who has been reporting on the leader of Hungary. From Direkt36: He has been uncovering the lavish lifestyle of Viktor Orbán’s circles. This summer, he was surveilled with Pegasus spyware

Pegasus is a system of spyware developed by the NSO group. It is sold to various governments and police organizations around the world so that they can track "bad guys." in this case the version allows governments to spy on iPhones.

The spyware, developed by the Israeli cybersecurity firm NSO, could access messages, photos and videos stored on the device, or even remotely turn on the phone’s microphone and camera.

And you should note that Pegasus is not the only such system used for spying, and NSO Group not the only player in that arena. They are just in the news because they stumbled out of the shadows and into the light. And you can also bet that Hungary is not the only country doing this kind of thing.

The problem is that some governments consider journalists who report on the questionable dealings of government officials, their families and friends to be bad guys. In particular, it was determined that photographer-journalist Dániel Németh had two of his phones hacked while in Hungary reporting on the Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and his associates.

Amnesty’s forensic analysis showed that Dániel Németh’s two phones were successfully hacked with Pegasus spyware, one from July 1 to 9, 2021, and the other from July 5 to 9. During this period, Németh was in Hungary just after returning from the reporting trip to Southern Italy. He was in the middle of planning his next trip by observing the route of the luxury vehicles used by the Fidesz elite.

And this is just one journalist being the subject of one spyware attack by one government. "Tip of the iceberg" is phrase that comes to mind.

In July, a team of international journalists published stories as part of the Pegasus Project, which were based on a database of 50,000 phone numbers selected for monitoring by NSO’s customers. Forbidden Stories, a Paris-based journalism outlet, and the human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) had access to the database, which they shared with 16 other news organizations, including The Washington Post, the Süddeutsche Zeitung and The Guardian. From Hungary, Direkt36 was the only participant.

The ongoing battle between Apple and iOS on the one hand, and the NSO Group and others like them on the other is one of the reasons Apple released what was dubbed an "emergency" update to iOS recently.

There are more stories of journalists being surveilled by Hungary using the Pegasus system at Direkt36, they are interspersed with a variety of other stories about Hungary, Orbán, etc. That news site helpfully translates everything into English. (Hat tip to Twitter.)

Self-defense May Be Legal in Virginia

And defense of family, too. Though the details of what happened are absent. Police: Teen who shot, killed mother’s boyfriend may have acted in self-defense

Police said the 19-year-old who shot his mother’s boyfriend was initially a suspect in what was being investigated as a homicide.

Now, police are calling him a person of interest and Sergeant Ian Yost said the case is being investigated as self-defense.

And I suppose that the prosecutor will make the final determination on charges.

How Close Is Too Close With a Knife?

A cop nearly learns a real-world lesson from the Tueller Drill. Del Norte Sheriff Release Video of Fatal Police Shooting.

If you don't know what the Tueller drill is, see the link below the embedded video.

Cops responded to a domestic incident. The subject may have been high, or he may have been suffering a mental breakdown. He was going on about how we are living in the matrix. The most important point is that he was armed with a large kitchen knife.

Police who responded to the 911 call on Parkway Drive and Sherwood Lane at about 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 25 reporting a disabled vehicle in the roadway reported arriving to find Anderson, 38, holding a knife and “walking in the traffic lanes.”

The knife was on the ground, but it was very close to the guy. If you watch the bodycam video below, the cops keep taking their eyes off of him. Until he grabs it and runs at one of them. I think that the cop was very lucky that in the end he seemed more determined to stab his wife/girlfriend/whatever she was than stab a cop, because I don't think they could have stopped him if he hadn't veered off.

The article above is from the cop-hating, law-and-order-hating media, so the picture they include makes him look like an angel, and the quotes are about what a great guy he was, right up until he picked up a big-ass kitchen knife and ran at someone like he meant to end them.

Donut Operator (Who describes himself as "a former police officer and SWAT team member and avid PC gamer") has a breakdown of the videos - bodycam video from two officers at the scene - and some thoughts.

This is the video for Knife Wielding Man Nearly Takes Out Officer - Police Shooting Breakdown

As for the Tueller Drill, see this article. The Tueller Drill: Why the 21-foot Rule is Important for Self Defense.

Tueller basically asked how close is too close when it comes to a knife. A man is standing with a knife between 20 and 25 feet away. In that situation, could you draw and fire before the attacker can cut you? Tueller determined that at 21 feet, an attacker could reach the shooter before he could fire; it takes, on average 1.5 seconds for a knife-wielding attacker to cover 21 feet.

Which is why I am sure that if he stayed focused on the first cop he ran toward, he could have done serious damage before he was stopped.

Labour of Love

Frente! was an Australian Alternative Rock/Folk band from the early 1990s. They had some success with their 1992 debut album, and put out one more album in 1996, and then disappeared. They have apparently reunited for a few appearances, but they could only manage an EP from 2005, which I have not heard. I quite liked the 1992 album.

This is "Labour of Love" by Frente! from the 1992 album Marvin the Album, though this is the 2014 Remastered edition.

The Situation in Chicago Seems to Be Accelerating Out of Control

HeyJackass! has the details on a Mostly Peaceful Weekend in Chicago.

Just as this year’s 500th homicide arrived at an accelerated pace, the 600th arrived at the morgue at a mid-nineties velocity.

Final Peaceful Tally: 10 killed, 54 wounded
2020 weekend tally: 10 killed, 37 wounded
2019 weekend tally: 6 killed, 24 wounded

I'm sure that the Powers That Be will still try to insist that Crime Is Down™.

Self-defense in North Pole, Alaska

I'm guessing folks in North Pole, Alaska are pretty well armed. Intruder shot by North Pole homeowner; man recovers in hospital, troopers say.

How would you deal with an intruder at 3 o'clock in the morning?

OK, I'm geographically challenged enough that I had to look it up. North Pole is about 250 miles nor'-nor'-east of Anchorage, or 371 miles by car. It looks to be fairly remote, though I'm sure there are folks in Alaska who would dispute that.

Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks were notified about the alleged home intrusion at 3:25 a.m. that day, according to an online dispatch.

Upon arriving at the home, troopers learned the intruder had been shot and was still alive. The homeowner did not report any injuries.

The guy who got shot was taken to a hospital and then airlifted to Anchorage. He is expected to survive. Charges are pending, while the doctors get him back on his feet.

Self-defense is a human-right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.

The Gun-hating Left Will Swear They Need More Gun Laws

Apparently actually punishing people who break the laws they already have would be unfair. Man is charged with having his second illegal gun since June — while on bail for murder both times

Remember Vincent Davidson? We told you about him in June after prosecutors accused him of having a gun in his car while he was on bond for first-degree murder. Incredibly, Davidson got out of jail again, and prosecutors on Sunday charged him with having another gun in his car this weekend.

He is accused (not convicted) of murder committed on October 1st, 2017. At first he was held without bail, but released on $300,000 bond after posting $30,000 in 2020. (I blame COVID-19.) Then after the June incident he was ordered held without bail, but was released shortly after that.

But somehow — exactly how is not clear in court records — Davidson was allowed out of jail again last month.

And on Saturday he was arrested again, for an open container of alcohol in his car, and what was reported as a fully automatic machine pistol in the trunk of the car.

Judge Susana Ortiz on Sunday ordered him held without bail for violating the terms of bond in the murder case and held without bail for violating the terms of bond in the June gun case. She set bail in the new gun case at $200,000 and ordered Davidson to go onto electronic monitoring if he becomes eligible for release. Again.

Any bets on whether or not they let him out again? Keeping violent criminals in jail would be unfair.

And 2017? Justice delayed is Justice denied. Hold the trial.

How Many Wars Did Trump Start?

I'll wait while you look that up. Trump’s Military Record Makes Milley’s Reported Intervention Even More Alarming

But look, here's the answer.

Despite his bellicose rhetoric and bluster, Trump had probably been more reluctant to use military force than any president in memory. One of the few (somewhat) consistent political positions held by the former president has been a distaste for military engagement. As others have pointed out, Trump was the first president since Jimmy Carter not to have gotten the nation into a new military conflict. One might chalk that up to the luck of history and circumstance — if it weren’t for more concrete examples.

But this is the guy Milley was worried about so much, that he decided that the military should not be strictly under civilian control. Really?

Joe Biden has already been more reckless with military force. After ISIS murdered 13 American servicemembers in a suicide bombing during our botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, Biden launched what turned out to be performative drone strikes that reportedly killed two Islamic State fighters but also ten civilians in Kabul — eight of them children — to prove his toughness and distract from the political fallout over his incompetence.

It is the end of the Republic.

Kingdom Come

Sabaton is a Swedish, Power-Metal band from Falun. Don't worry, they sing in English. They are apparently gearing up for a tour in 2022, and have released a couple of new videos. Most were from old albums. This one, looks to be new. I expect that means that an album will be forthcoming, but I can't find any reference to it yet.

The lyrics are in the video, but I usually have no trouble understanding Joakim "Jocke" Brodén; he is singing fairly clearly given that this IS metal. It you want the lyrics, they can be found at this link.

This song Is Kingdom Come by Sabaton. It was released as a single on July 16th. As far as I can tell, it is not part of an album, though my knowledge of Sabaton is not encyclopedic.

Three Justifiable Homicides In Just Over 36 Hours

It would seem that Tulsa is a bad place to be a bad guy. Three of Tulsa's recent homicides occurred within a span of 38 hours, and each is considered justifiable

“There’s a lot of people who claim self-defense,” [Lt. Brandon] Watkins said. “That’s usually the first refuge that people go to when they come in, but we look at the evidence.

“On these three cases, the evidence was compelling.”

The cases are the 35th, 36th and 37th homicides in Tulsa this year, according to Tulsa World records.

Those 3 homicides were the result of two people being shot, and one person being stabbed.

Click thru for the details of the encounters, and what police did to verify that they were justified.

Self-defense claims are nothing new to the homicide detectives at the Tulsa Police Department, but to have three in a row that appear to be legitimate is, at the least, “strange.”

Self-defense is a human-right, and in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it also seems to be your legal right.

It Has Nothing to do With Billions in Profits

It is all about the science. Really. Trust the government. They wouldn't lie to you, would they? ‘Science’ Fact-Checks Biden Agenda: FDA Nixes Pfizer COVID-19 Booster Vax

The basic news is that the FDA put an end to Biden's talk of COVID vaccine booster shots. But then it was all about the money anyway.

About two-thirds of American adults (myself included) are fully vaccinated, and most of the unvaccinated people are just against it, period. So that means the end of Big Pharma’s government-funded vaccine profit bonanza is approaching quite soon. That’s the real reason (not “the science”) why the Biden administration is now trying to make vaccination mandatory, and also why they were trying to get booster shots approved. Big money is involved.

Pfizer spends millions on lobbying, and contributes millions to campaigns. So is it about science, or money?

And the Biden administration - it isn't Biden himself, I don't believe he is planning much of anything - wants you to forget about Afghanistan, and the southern border, and inflation, ...

There is information about how FDA scientists quit over the political pressure coming from the White House, about how the FDA eventually stood up to the political pressure, and more.

We Live in an Age of Stupid

And stupid does not belong to one political party, but runs rampant through most politicians of every party. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp keeps mentioning failed AIDS vaccine mandates. But there is no AIDS vaccine

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, keeps mentioning the failed campaign to vaccinate Americans against the AIDS virus as an example of the pitfalls of healthcare mandates.

Except the AIDS vaccine doesn't exist. And there sure wasn't a failed campaign to mandate it.

I'm sure by now one of his staff sat him down, and explained that he's making fool of himself. But maybe not. Depends on the quality of his staff, I suppose. Though unless he is living under a rock he must have seen some of the coverage he's generating.

There are other examples of stupid of course, but this is an extreme example.

Volcano on La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands

There is some video at the link, but if you page down, the still photographs are quite stunning. There is also a live video feed which is fascinating as I type this, but that is subject to change of course. Lava pours out of volcano on La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands | Reuters

The Canary Islands are in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, about even with the Morocco/West Sahara border. La Palma is in the extreme NW of the Canary Islands, about 300 kilometers (187 miles) from Morocco.

A volcano erupted on the Spanish Canary Island of La Palma on Sunday, sending lava shooting into the air and streaming in rivers towards houses in two villages from the Cumbre Vieja national park in the south of the island.

This particular region last had a eruption 50 years ago in 1971. Though people had a week's warning and the government began evacuations well before the eruption. 5000 people had been evacuated as of Sunday evening local time.

La Palma had been on high alert after more than 22,000 tremors were reported in the space of a week in Cumbre Vieja, a chain of volcanoes that last had a major eruption in 1971 and is one of the most active volcanic regions in the Canaries.

The video below is from The Guardian: Lava erupts from a volcano on La Palma in Spanish Canary Islands. At only a minute and a half it is pretty good.

World Chess Champ Magnus Carlsen Wins Norway Chess

With a preview of the World Championship Match scheduled for November. Magnus Carlsen Wins 2021 Norway Chess

I know most of you don't follow chess, even if you know how to play. But I follow it a little.

Norway Chess is an invitational tournament consisting of 6 players facing each other in a double round-robin tournament.

The players this year were Magnus Carlsen - Norway, Ian Nepomniachtchi - Russia, Richard Rapport - Hungary, Alireza Firouzja - France, Sergey Karjakin - Russia, and Aryan Tari - Norway.

Magnus Carlsen (reigning World Champion) and Ian Nepomniachtchi (winner of the Candidates Tournament) will face each other in World Championship match in Dubai, UAE. The match was postponed from last year due to COVID-19. In the classical game they played, they fought to a draw. (That was followed by a game of Armegeddon Chess, and so not really relavent to the Championship.)

The prize for first place in Norway Chess this year was about $81,000 US.

As for the World Championship match.

The prize fund will be $2 million. The winner will earn 60 percent of the prize fund, and 40 percent will go to the runner-up. If the match ends in a tie after 14 games and a tiebreak will decide matters, the winner receives 55 percent and the runner-up 45 percent.

Before the start of the match, each player receives two hundred thousand euros as an upfront payment of his eventual prize money. If the match is played in the country of one of the players, then the foreign player receives one hundred thousand euros of the prize fund and the remaining prize money is shared as stated above.

2020 Michigan Dam Failures: Forensic Report

While we're on the subject of dam failures... Michigan Dam Failures Caused by Rapid Liquefaction of Downstream Sand Embankments | 2021-09-14 | Engineering News-Record

First, let's refresh your memory.

The Edenville and Sanford Dams along the Tittabawassee River in north central Michigan failed on May 19, 2020, after two days of heavy rain, resulting in flooding and property damage.

There was an ongoing dispute between the dams owner, the federal government (in the form of the regulating body) with some interaction with the local community. Oh, and the state environmental agency was also involved, if memory serves me.

An interim report from the Association of State Dam Safety Officials reports that a clear factor in the failures of two dams built in the 1920s was static liquefaction (flow) instability of saturated, loose sands in the downstream section of their embankments. [SNIP]

Static liquefaction has rarely been observed in dam failures and is more commonly associated with earthquakes, according to the forensic team. It occurs when the mobilized shear strength in saturated, loose sand decreases rapidly to values significantly less than the applied static shear stresses, resulting in a force imbalance. The sand quickly liquefied, became mud and then accelerated the velocity of the already fast-moving water with its mass.

There is more at the link above. The complete interium report can be found at the following link: INVESTIGATION OF FAILURES OF EDENVILLE AND SANFORD DAMS. It is a 42 page PDF, so you may not want to download it to your phone. It does contain a number of photos of the dam at various points leading up to the failure, and as the failure unfolded.

Another Dam, Another Failure - This time of a spillway gate

It hasn't been a catastrophic failure. But a failure nonetheless. Lake Gonzales’ dam spill gate failure brings uncertainty for residents, wildlife and environment

Officials with the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority(GBRA), which manages regional waterways, say a large tree became lodged in the spill gate on Aug. 3. The weight of the tree and the resulting water pressure may have led to the spill gate’s failure.

The lake is 12 miles west of Gonzales, or about an hour’s drive east of downtown San Antonio.

And there is a statistic that is worth taking note of.

A sobering line from the magazine’s investigation: “Of the approximately 300 dam failures in Texas since 1910, half have occurred in the last nine years.”

Every dam in the world needs maintenance. And eventually they will probably all need replacement, or at least very serious work. Nothing lasts forever.

He Suffered a Failure of the Victim-selection Process

And concealed carry likely saved a law-abiding citizen's life. Police investigating self-defense claim after deadly shooting on Nashville pedestrian bridge

Police report that shortly before 1 a.m., two men shot each other on a pedestrian bridge on Shelby Street. The shooting killed 36-year-old Benjamin Baker and wounded 20-year-old Marcellus Groves.

Surveillance video shows Baker, who is donning a ski mask, approach Groves from behind, police said in a news release. Baker appeared to pull out a handgun prior to confronting Groves.

The guy in the ski mask was shot in the chest, and died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They other guy was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.

While the investigation continues, self-defense remains a human-right.

After Action Reports (sort of) from Professor Yamane's Field Trip

Professor David Yamane leads a Sociology of Guns seminar at Wake Forest University. One of the first parts of the class is a field trip to a local gun store and range, where students are given the opportunity to shoot .22 long rifle, and 9mm pistols, and AR-15 rifle. They have the opportunity; no one is forced.

After that experience, the students each write a report on the trip, and if they give their prermission, Professor Yamane publishes those reports on his blog Gun Curious. Those reports are starting to appear.

First up, someone who shoots competitively. I’m Surprised This Trip and Class is Allowed (Fall 2021 Student Range Visit Reflection #1)

My circumstances are different from other students in several ways, notably in experience and physical considerations. I have a relatively extensive background in the gun community with a focus on competition and training that extends beyond the level of the average American gun owner.

Next we have Mixed Emotions and Complicated Views (Fall 2021 Student Range Visit Reflection #2)

As a young woman who grew up in a blue county of a red state, I understand that there are nuances to this debate that often get pushed aside for the sake of argument. Going to the Mocksville Veterans Gun Range complicated my view and understanding of my belief and opinions on this topic.

I'm sure there will be more on the trip, and I won't be able to highlight them all. You should however be reading Professor Yamane's blog regularly anyway.

That's One Way to Deal with Red Light Cameras

Heh. Elusive thief has stolen red light cameras from North Side intersection three times, CPD document says - CWB Chicago

A living legend is walking amongst ordinary Chicagoans. A shadowy commoner, they take decisive action while others merely complain. They don’t seek recognition or fame — probably because they’d be arrested.

Will Chicago ever know their name? The name of the person who has stolen the city’s cash-printing red light cameras at Cicero and Lawrence three times? And, if the Sauganash Sasquatch is ever arrested, would a jury in this town convict them?

According to 2018 informaion the local CBS station reported, those cameras generate about $850 per day in revenue for the city.

Journalism Is Easy If You Don't Bother to Try

Just repeat the talking points about how police are out of control. ‘Family Demands Answers’

A series of articles from various "news organizations" from diverse geographic areas that all have a headline that includes "Family demands answers," or a variation on that theme.

Am I asserting that, in each of these cases, the police were entirely justified, and that all these complaints are illegitimate? No, of course not. One must examine each case in detail to determine whether or not police procedures were proper and lawful. My point is not about police procedures, but rather about the lazy cookie-cutter approach to journalism that yields such a predictable series of headlines. And, in case you’d care to click those headline links, you will discover that in every case, the person shot by police is black. We know, as a matter of statistical fact, that cops actually shoot more white suspects than black suspects, but when did you ever see a news story about a white family “demanding answers” in such a case? I can only think of one off the top of my head — a crazy woman in Tennessee who charged cops with a pickax — but I’m sure there must be others.

Pennsylvania's Castle Doctrine Does Apply to Vehicles

And this was yet another failure of the victim-selection process. City of Washington shooting was self-defense, DA says

A landlord was in his vehicle. A tenant, tried to get into the vehicle during a struggle. Things did not go well for the tenant.

[District Attorney Jason] Walsh said witness reports indicated that Williams was trying to enter the man's vehicle, and that the shooter was inside the car when he fired.

This event took place on September 1st, so DA Walsh has made this determination in short order. Some prosecutors would take months to admit that self-defense is legal. So hats off to Jason Walsh.

Self-defense is also a human-right.

Shoot First And Don't Answer Any Questions Later

That seems to be Standard Operating Procedure for Milwaukee PD. Milwaukee Officer Nikolas Zens Fired for Accidentally Shooting Innocent Homeowner: Police Video

Cops had chased a bad guy into his yard. All he knew was that he heard a commotion.

Tari Davis says he was watching a movie at home when he heard the commotion and went to the back door. The suspect had run to Davis’ home.

Court documents say Officer Zens thought the suspect was armed and fired one bullet — into the wrong person.

Not willing to admit that they made a mistake, they had him handcuffed to the bed when he woke up in the emergency room. They had interrogated his 14 year old daughter with no adult present, but since she didn't tell them what they wanted to hear, they didn't believe her.

"The Milwaukee Police Department declines to comment on this matter as it relates to pending litigation,” they said. “The member engaged in the officer-involved shooting was discharged from the Milwaukee Police Department.”

They also didn't publicly release the bodycam video, or announce that the shoot-first-officer had been fired. (The lawyer, for the guy who got shot, obtained both.) The officer in question has not been charged. He is even trying to get his job back.

Shall we review? He ran into the back yard of a private residence, and then he pretty much shot the first person he saw. They arrested the guy who was shot, even though he wasn't the guy they were chasing. (They would NEVER get it wrong like that!) He doesn't deserve to be in law enforcement, and the entire crew should be reviewed, with an eye toward getting rid of them. (How many of them interrogated the 14-year-old? Anyone who did... gone.)

Given Qualified Immunity, I don't believe that he can be charged with a crime. And felony stupidity is not on the books in Wisconsin. You or I would have been charged with any number of crimes, but thanks to SCOTUS and their ideas on fighting crime, we hold cops to a lower standard.

There is supposed to be video at the link above, but I have tried 3 different browsers and cannot get it to display. (That link has more information about the original incident anyway.) For the video, and a bit more information of the disciplinary action against offer Zens, see the following link: Video: Milwaukee officer fired after shooting wrong man.

What Could Go Wrong?

A music festival in the 2nd most dangerous neighborhood in Chicago. Inaugural Englewood Music Fest is Saturday. Organizers’ goal is to celebrate the community and help change the narrative..

Englewood is one of the 77 neighborhoods in Chicago. It is approximately 3 square miles with a population of about 30,000 people. HeyJackass! currently lists it as the 2nd most dangerous neighborhood in the city, behind Garfield Park, though the numbers are close so that could change at any time.

As of September 14th, there were 44 murders in Englewood in 2021, with an additional 245 people shot-and-wounded.

So of course, the city is holding a music festival there.

After going to other community festivals such as the Hyde Park Summer Fest and the Westside Music Festival, [Chicago Ald. Stephanie] Coleman, who described herself as “born (and) bred Englewood,” thought why not do something similar in her neighborhood.

“I said, ‘Wow, I’m going to all these other communities, and my community should experience this type of unity, this type of fun,’” said Coleman, who represents the 16th Ward.

Hyde Park, by way of comparison, is where the University of Chicago is located. The Obama family purchased a $1 million-plus home there before he was elected to the Senate. It isn't perfect, but it isn't Englewood.

You will, of course, have to have a vaccine passport to enter, or take a rapid test. It is Chicago after all.

I wish them all the best in their effort to prove that Englewood, is more than the violence that happens there, but even if the festival goes off perfectly, what will people really know about the neighborhood?

More Self-defense in South Carolina

He assaulted someone in their own home. I'm guessing that things didn't turn out as planned. LCSO: Man shot and killed another man in self-defense

The incident only took place last Saturday, and already the prosecutor in Laurens County has made a determination of self-defense. That is traveling at Warp Speed, when compared to a lot of prosecutors.

Self-defense is a human-right, and in South Carolina, it seems to be your legal right as well.

Blaming COVID-19 Was Easier Than Telling the Truth

"I hope I die before I get old." Herron long-term care residents died of thirst, malnourishment, Quebec coroner’s inquest told

COVID-19 was repeatedly cited as a cause of death at the Herron nursing home to obscure the fact that dozens of elderly residents died from thirst, malnourishment and neglect, a Quebec coroner’s inquest heard Tuesday.

Because blaming COVID-19 is so much easier than admitting to relatives that you let their family members die of thirst.

In an emotional testimony, an auxiliary nurse recalled how the facility in Montreal’s West Island was already poorly run before the crisis, how most of its staff abandoned their posts when the coronavirus struck, and how the local health authority then took over in a high-handed and inefficient manner.

But Canada has Universal Health Care Socialized Medicine. I thought that was supposed to be great.

My prediction is that no one will face criminal charges. The relevant bureaucrats will issue some non-apology apology and the media will go back to cheering for more socialized medicine and more tyranny.

I'm Shocked — Shocked! — To Discover Fraud Among Democrats

Informed Consent Is Such a 20th Century Idea

Shut up and do what we tell you to do. It is for your own good anyway. Project Veritas Whistleblower: Washington Nursing Home Patient Dies After Being Given a ‘Chemical Restraint’ to Coax Her Into Taking Vaccine Against Her Will; Was Allegedly Told Jab Is a “Flu Vaccine” – (VIDEO)

In a bombshell new video by Project Veritas, Cassandra Renner – a former Medical Technician at the senior living center – detailed an especially troubling incident where a resident that refused to take the experimental Covid Jab was given a sedative – something “like Xanax” – and lied to about the type of vaccine she was receiving in order to get the shot in her arm.

Lying about treatment goes against the AMA's code of ethics.

Informed consent to medical treatment is fundamental in both ethics and law. It helps patients make well-considered decisions about their care and treatment.

It may be illegal. I'm not an attorney, and I don't play one on television, but the statement from the AMA makes it sound like Informed Consent is part of the law, though Findlaw seems to indicate it varies from state to state.

The first article follows the case of a nursing home resident who died, shortly after having been lied to about a "flu shot" and a dose of Xanax.

I suspect that nothing will come of this, because she should have just agreed to take the vaccine. It was for her own good. Or something.

Self-defense is Legal in Cincinnati

I thought it was, but you can never be sure today. Police: NKU law student was shot in self defense

Police have said the preliminary investigation shows that the shooter acted in self-defense. The Prosecutor's office is still reviewing the case.

Cierra Allen died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Self-defense is a human-right.

The Left Will Somehow Blame the Inanimate Object

Not the person who committed this vile act. Chicago shooting: Fallon Harris charged with murder of 12-year-old son in South Chicago, prosecutors say - ABC7 Chicago

Harris confronted the boy about 10:15 Saturday morning about the whereabouts of a digital memory card she had removed from her vehicle the previous night, according to Cook County State's Attorney Eugene Wood.

After he was unable to produce the memory card when his mother demanded it at gunpoint, she shot him, Wood said Sunday during Harris' initial court appearance.

If you use USB thumb drives, you know that they are easy to lose. They are small, convenient, and cheap. But are they worth killing over?

To shoot someone over a misplaced "digital memory card" is insane. (Crazy People Are Dangerous.) And she will be evaluated for her ability to stand trial.

From the Sun Times...

City records show that she’s employed by the Chicago Department of Transportation.

“It’s a textbook example of how natural immunity is really better than vaccination”

Vaccine mandates and science. Having SARS-CoV-2 once confers much greater immunity than a vaccine—but vaccination remains vital

"What was the study?" you ask.

The study, conducted in one of the most highly COVID-19–vaccinated countries in the world, examined medical records of tens of thousands of Israelis, charting their infections, symptoms, and hospitalizations between 1 June and 14 August, when the Delta variant predominated in Israel. It’s the largest real-world observational study so far to compare natural and vaccine-induced immunity to SARS-CoV-2, according to its leaders.

And the outcome?

The natural immune protection that develops after a SARS-CoV-2 infection offers considerably more of a shield against the Delta variant of the pandemic coronavirus than two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to a large Israeli study that some scientists wish came with a “Don’t try this at home” label.

By which they mean you shouldn't try to get infected. But for those of us who have a natural immunity - gotten the hard way - what is the point of the vaccine? Control, that's the point.

Get the vaccine or else. You will lose your job. You will not be allowed to go anywhere like a restaurant. Obey. (Hat tip to Easy Money.)

Police say the man was looking into a bedroom window from outside and the woman inside the home got scared and grabbed a rifle. She shot several times at the suspect through the wall of the home. Police say the man was shot one time and died at the scene.

The mayor, Ted Wheeler, at first praised the "hands off" approach of the police, but lately he reversed that position.

Under most circumstances you can't sue City Hall, or the police, or anyone else in government.

The Look of Love

This is a song I hadn't thought about in a very long time. Burt Bacharach wrote the music as an instrumental, but then Hal David wrote lyrics for it. It was most notable for it having been included in the 1967 spoof version of Casino Royale.

Yes kids, there was a James Bond film with Woody Allen as the bad guy. (There is a reason you have never seen it.) Aside from that, it is a wonderful song.

This is "The Look of Love" by Dusty Springfield from her 1967 album The Look of Love.

We get this song thanks to Iowa Life, who featured it way back in June.

The Australian Nanny-state Moves Forward

They will control every aspect of your life. It is for your own good, so shut up and do what they tell you to do. NSW Health limits residents of locked-down tower block to six beers per day

Residents in apartment blocks locked-down by NSW Health are having their alcohol deliveries policed as part of a policy to limit the number of drinks being consumed each day.

The police are happy to act as enforcers of authoritarianism, and stop deliveries of gifts. Of course that means that they have to search everything. Freedom? It left Australian long-ago.

The jackbooted thugs in the police and in the health services haven't said where they get that authority exactly. But then that is true of the fascists taking over governments in the name of health all over the world.

A spokeswoman for the Sydney Local Health District said when NSW Health took control of apartment buildings for the purposes of limiting the spread of coronavirus, the buildings became subject to alcohol consumption restrictions.

Next up, dietary standards: no chips, no cake, no... Anything they don't like will be forbidden. It's for your own good.
