Why the Left Hates Free Speech

Dana Pico at The First Street Journal has thought on Free Speech and The Left. The truth has a conservative bias.

When Elon Musk was trying to buy Twitter, now X, the Left was having fits. The New York Times had many articles and opinion pieces that basically boil down to "Free speech is bad," or "Free Speech is dangerous."

And today? There were riots in Belfast, Northern Ireland, following the attempted beheading of a Scotsman by a Sudanese asylum seeker, and the Usual Suspects complained not about the attack, but about Twitter not censoring people writing about it! There’s more of that here and here and here.

The result is that the government the United Kingdom is going to crack down even more on freedom of speech.

Why? Because they are afraid of what will happen if and/or when the citizens of the UK finally see the results of their policies.

Sweden Votes for Free Speech

Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard recently announced that the Swedish government would be dropping not just the word but the entire concept of "Islamophobia," out of a preference for freedom of speech.

Sweden has been so worried about being Progressive, that they have let terror organizations set up shop.

In May 2025, a French Interior Ministry report, "Muslim Brotherhood and Political Islamism in France," cited evidence attesting "to [the organization's] active presence" in Sweden.

For six years, those of us who questioned the official COVID story were told to wait, defer, trust, and stop noticing what the data was already suggesting.

We watched it with the lab leak. We watched it with masks. We watched it with school closures. We watched it with natural immunity. We watched it with myocarditis. We watched it with vaccine injury reporting. We watched it with DNA contamination.

The frustrating part was never just that institutions got things wrong. Everyone gets things wrong in a crisis. The deeper wound was that the people asking reasonable questions — parents, physicians, data analysts, small-business owners, vaccine-injured patients, and dissenting scientists — were treated as if their questions were a threat.

And wouldn't you know it, some of those questions had merrit. (That is where the censorship machine came into play.)

Free Speech Must Be Destroyed in the Name of Multiculturalism

Multiculturalism is the new religion of the Left. You will not be allowed to say anything heretical about it. Like the fact that it is failing miserably.

It’s not often the Premier of New South Wales says something that changes the political debate in the UK and elsewhere, but so it is this week. Following the awful carnage on Bondi Beach, NSW Premier Chris Minns gave a press conference about new legal restrictions on speech, and said this:

“I acknowledge that we don’t have the same free speech rules that they have in the United States and I make no apologies for that, we have got a responsibility to knit together our community, that comes from different races and religions.”

It is why the UK and Australia, and other places, are putting people in jail for expressing opinions, and in parts of Europe for citing crime statistics.

You will believe only what the state permits you to believe.

Western civilization was fun while it lasted.

When the Congressional Black Caucus and 260 left-leaning organizations sent letters trying to prevent me from testifying before Congress, they claimed to be opposing efforts to “undermine civil institutions” and to prevent the use of “government power to silence people.”

His crime? He was criticizing the Southern Poverty Law Center for targeting conservatives, such as the time the SPLC got the FBI to investigate Traditional Catholics.

To the Left it is simple. If you oppose anything and anyone that they like, you are evil and must be silenced. That they don't see that as fascist behavior is a testament to the low quality of education in this country.

The details are every bit as insane as you think they would be.

The Blog Was Locked and Unlocked Today

Blogger locked my Blog, and denied me all access to my content, apparently in response to a complaint.

I assume this was someone who objects to my politics. The Left in general, and Gay/Lesbian community in particular feels it is their duty to destroy anything (and anyone) who steps outside the bounds they declare as appropriate. A lesbian who supports the Second Amendment must be silenced.

And so I was silenced for about 4 and a half hours today.

I have been putting off doing the self-hosting thing, mostly because I'm cheap, and this is supposed to be a hobby. I suppose I will have to decide on a way going forward, and not rely on Blogger or WordPress or whoever. Wherever I go, the same libtards are going to complain, even if they have to lie to come up with a complaint.

IF this blog really does get nuked in the future, I will try to have some folks publish where it ends up, and I will probably also put something up at the Archives. (See the link in the sidebar.)

The infuriating thing, is the Blogger/Blogspot/Google/Alphabet's process seems to revolve around "guilty, until we decide to investigate the charges." That is not a procedure. That is believing all the name-calling

Free Speech and Idiots

One of the great arguments in favor of free speech is that it allows fools to discredit themselves, and Nick Fuentes is an excellent example of why the First Amendment guarantees that even the most ridiculous fool should never be censored.

Speech is only free if people you don't like, say stuff you disagree with. I'm not sure when we lost sight of that. It also lets the idiots prove that they are idiots.

The best thing to do with Nick Fuentes — legally, that is, since it would be a felony to shove him feet-first into a wood chipper — is to ignore him, which is what I would still be doing had it not been for the fact that Tucker Carlson interviewed Fuentes for two hours this week, and the entire conservative movement has gone crazy because of it.

My company, my colleagues, and I have been the targets of a coordinated and global multi-year censorship campaign. After years of censorship, to claim that those on the Left are worried about free speech is hypocritical on levels I've never seen before. They don't care about free speech. They care that they are no longer in control of information. They only care about Free Speech now that people actually have Free Speech.

And Sean Davis is right; it doesn't stop with speech.

The drive to silence speech doesn’t end at a podium’s edge or at the four corners of a page. It always advances toward the violent elimination of speakers. That is because the authoritarian impulse to silence speech is driven by a totalitarian desire to seize total power by any means necessary, up to and including the murder of one’s political opponents.

This dynamic was made clear on a Tuesday afternoon in Utah last month when my friend Charlie Kirk was assassinated in broad daylight by a left-wing transgender ideologue.

American Airlines (Apparently) Hates Free Speech

And they also apparently hate Charlie Kirk. American Airlines fact checks right wing influencer who claimed a passenger was forced to change out of a Charlie Kirk shirt

Milo Yiannopoulos, a British far-right commentator, wrote on X that the incident had occurred Wednesday during a flight from Dallas Fort Worth, Texas, to New York.

“HAPPENING NOW: A stewardess on @AmericanAir flight 1628 just demanded that this passenger change out of her Charlie Kirk “Freedom” shirt, claiming it is ‘offensive’ to the crew,” Yiannopoulos wrote, tagging U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in the post.

THe airline says, "No one complained to us, so it never happened."

And if someone had complained, what would they do? Issue a statement that "We're investigating," and then hope that people forget about the whole thing.

Britain's Online Safety Act Is All about Censorship

They scream about protecting the children, and hope you don't read the fine print. The Online Safety Act is an assault on freedom

So they want to protect the children from mean tweets.

Section 179 of the act makes it a criminal offence to say something false that causes “non-trivial psychological harm”. That’s not protecting kids from predators. That’s criminalising humour, satire, political dissent and angry tweets. Under this definition, a cutting meme, a sarcastic TikTok or a joke about a government minister could land you in court. This is not a safety law. It’s a censorship law.

Democracy? Consent of the governed? No, just bureaucracy.

Section 44 gives a single government minister the power to rewrite the censorship rules without Parliament. Let that sink in. A single person can direct Ofcom to impose new censorship obligations on the internet, and platforms will be legally forced to comply. No vote. No debate. Just diktat. This is the death knell of democracy.

And the Brits seem to be unable to do anything to stand in its way.

Censorship Is Back in the News

Censorship has come to the UK and Europe.

So British and EU censorship laws have dropped, and especially on X, people are hitting the roof as every adult flagged account they follow from everywhere in the world is blocked for them.

The same people who wanted Trump silenced, and now upset that they and the people they like are silenced.

If you tolerate censorship in any form, simply because you think it only applies to the people you don’t like, you’re only fooling yourself. If you don’t stand on the principle of free speech for everyone, it WILL absolutely come around and bite you in the ass.

In Norway, I exposed how leaders in a religious cult were engaged in what many consider to be grooming behaviour of young girls. Not long thereafter, police attempted to enter my house without any court order which should be illegal.

And instead of investigating the cult, the police interrogated me. I later found out that the police officer that interrogated me had very close connections with the very same religious cult…

The Tolerant/Peaceful Left - Or Maybe Not

The Seattle Police Department said they were investigating a 'potentially targeted' attack 'due to political and ideological signs' that included a Confederate Flag, supported Donald Trump, and one that read 'Police Lives Matter.'

They tolerate everyone, as long as you march in lockstep with every bit of their dogma. Deviate from that and you will be attacked.

The homeowner's car windows were also shot at and pride flag stickers were left on the vehicle.

They no doubt left the Pride Stickers to prove how tolerant they are.

Despite the violence, the homeowner told local news that she would be keeping her signs up.

Strong woman. The Left hates her.

Missouri AG Investigating Big Tech for Suppressing Speech

Today, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced that he is issuing a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) to Google, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, within Meta Platforms, Inc., to determine whether the companies have engaged in unlawful business practices by suppressing lawful speech and commerce related to firearms and ammunition on its platforms. The goal of the investigation is to expose any corporate misconduct and restore transparency and fairness to online platforms.

Good luck to Mr. Bailey on this.

“When Big Tech companies hold the power to control what Americans see, say, and believe, they hold the power to reshape the nation,” continued Attorney General Bailey. “We will not allow Silicon Valley to rewrite the Bill of Rights from behind a firewall.”

I think this will be tough to move on, but I'm not a lawyer.

The Censorship Industrial Complex

The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) was awarded grants through its U.S.-based affiliate, AN Foundation, from NED, a congressionally chartered and taxpayer-funded agency in Washington. The grants were paid to develop strategies on how to fight perceived disinformation in foreign countries.

But GDI's quarterly progress reports often explicitly boasted about the impact of censorship efforts on American targets and audiences.

They targeted The Blaze, The New York Post, The Daily Wire, Newsmax, and The Federalist. At least. They also specifically targeted Trump, and were so pleased when he was kicked off of social media in 2021.

Mike Benz, the founder of the Foundation for Freedom Online and a major anti-censorship activist, said the documents were stunning and disturbing.

“I am absolutely disgusted by these revelations, as should be every American and every world citizen to see the US government, under the Biden administration, actively funding a full-out campaign to pressure advertisers to defund private independent news sites who competed with the Biden State Department’s media narratives," Benz told Just the News.

"Everyone involved in this should be fired, and frankly, NED itself must be defunded," he added.

Canada Versus Free Speech

Authoritarians always try to stamp out Free Speech. You might think non-approved thoughts, if you can say things the government doesn't approve of. You might criticize the government. Rumble & Rebel News sue MP Saks & others for conspiring to violate free speech rights

The defendants are the government of Canada, Member of Canadian Parliament Ya’ara Saks, and other officials.

Specifically, the suit alleges that the defendants tried to scuttle the events, promoted as “Rumble Live” and “Rebel News Live” on May 10 & 11, 2024, by enforcing unjustifiable fees for security measures they knew were unnecessary and exorbitant. The gatherings were planned and held by the two companies after they entered into a lawful contract to rent a venue in North York, Ontario that typically hosts wedding receptions and other private events.

Freedom of information reports from the various police forces in the relevant jurisdiction indicate that there was no indication that there was going to be any disturbance. And there was none. All the usual suspects (ANTIFA, etc.) were at Toronto University protesting Israel and generally showing their sympathy of terrorists.

And the government was hostile to the events.

“I am wondering if you think there is any language within the lease agreement that would permit us to stop this event from happening,” wrote another. “Based on my review, I don’t think there is, but I would appreciate your opinion.”

When they determined that they couldn't stop speech they didn't like, they chose another tactic.

“The Defendants knew that there was no way for them to lawfully prevent the Event from proceeding,” the lawsuit alleges. “Nonetheless, they sought to, and did, interfere with the contractual relationship between Rebel News and the [venue], successfully pressuring the venue to impose the Unwarranted Costs on the Plaintiffs, contrary to the Agreement.”

I don't really expect them to make much headway. The courts will be hostile to free speech, that is just how things are in Canada.

What's the Opposite of Diversity?

Universities value all kinds of diversity except for diversity of opinion.

A Communist faculty member of Washington State University was arrested after allegedly assaulting a student for wearing a MAGA hat. In February, WSU junior Jay Sani was getting takeout in Pullman, Washington’s historic College Hill district when he was allegedly ambushed and assaulted by Patrick Mahoney and Gerald Hoff.

The level of "crime" was deemed to be low. Misdemeanor. So I doubt this "instructor" will suffer any consequences, despite the fact that it was all caught on video.

Not surprising that the University can't handle open exchange of ideas.

The university is now preparing for a TPUSA event featuring conservative commentator Charlie Kirk on April 17. There is already chatter from violent militant groups like Antifa and other left-leaning students promising to disrupt the event.

I'm old enough to remember when Free Speech was valued by university communities.

Rumble, Rebel News sue Canadian Government over Free Speech

From The Post Millennial: Rumble, Rebel News sue Canadian government over alleged free speech violations

Rumble Canada and Rebel News have filed a lawsuit against the Canadian government, MP Ya’ara Saks, and other officials, claiming the government tried to shut down two public events in 2024 that focused on free speech.

Filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the lawsuit says officials tried to block the events—called “Rumble Live” and “Rebel News Live”—because they did not agree with the political opinions of the speakers and guests. One of the featured speakers was Donald Trump Jr.

The event in question was basically charged a ransom of $40,000 Canadian for "extra security" even though there was no indication from police that extra security was required. The claim was "police are saying" unrest is on the horizon. Police were not saying that.

MP Ya’ara Saks posted on social media on May 10, 2024, that she opposed the event for political reasons. “My conservative opponent, Roman Baber, has been platformed by and interacted with Rebel News at every opportunity,” she wrote. “Rebel News is clearly supporting Roman Baber.”

More details. History of Rebel News and Ezra Levant having "trouble" with the Canadian government. The .gov in Canada doesn't like independent journalists. Most news "organizations" in Canada get funding from the government, and so mostly do what they are told to do. And report only on the stories that don't make the .gov look bad.

They are asking that the ransom be returned and that they get $250,000 in punitive damages so this doesn't happen again.

I'm Shocked that Zuckerberg Seems to be Lying

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s recent shift rightward appears to be little more than window dressing, as his company’s policies still favor mass censorship.

He got beat up for censorship, so suddenly he was opposed to censorship. It appears it was all marketing lies.

Additionally, Meta still has a lengthy section on “Misinformation,” an oft-used term for its COVID-19 censorship, much of which, Zuckerberg later revealed, came at the behest of the Biden administration. The misinformation section states “there is no way to articulate a comprehensive list of what is prohibited.”
