Homeowner Kills Dog After It Attacked Pet

People need to control their dogs. Broward homeowner fatally shoots dog after it escaped yard, attacked pet, police say - CBS Miami

According to Lighthouse Point police, two dogs got loose after escaping a fenced-in yard and began to roam through the neighborhood.

While in the area, police said they encountered a much smaller dog on the front porch of a home

One of the two dogs grabbed the small dog.

A family friend identified as Joe described the attack as "vicious," stating that the dog "grabbed onto the puppy... and shook it." He said the owner was forced to shoot the dog after other efforts to stop the attack failed.

The other dog fled, and then attacked a person nearby, biting that person on the leg.

Lighthouse Point, Florida, is about 10 miles north of Fort Lauderdale.

The owner of the large dogs eventually secured the other dog. As I type this, the incident is under investigation.

While I am not a lawyer, it is my understanding that you can defend your animals against other animals.

The small dog was taken to the vet.

There was a shooting on July 24th that resulted in someone being shot in the arm.

According to police, the shot was fired in self-defense.

Detectives are working to determine how the shooting began and whether or not charges will be filed.

Florida is a bad place for bad guys. The bad guys keep not reading that memo.

I am really tired of reading stories like this.

A 31-year-old woman has been named after she died in a horrific alligator attack.

Brittany Clark had been swimming in Florida with her boyfriend when she was brutally killed by the reptile.

She died after the gator tore off both of her arms in a death roll.

The devastating incident occurred when Ms Clark, her boyfriend, and an unnamed friend were swimming in "shoulder-deep water" in the Econlockhatchee River.

To quote SiGraybeard from a few years back:

Don’t go swimming if you know there are gators in the water. Corollary: if your map says “Florida” on it, and you’re in fresh water, there are gators in there. If it’s brackish or saltwater, there might be crocodiles with you.

Pro tip: There are always, and I do mean always, sharks at the beach. You may not see them; they out there.

I know it is hot, and that you go swimming in the Midwest, or the West, or New England, or wherever. Don't do it in Florida, unless it is in a designated area.

Mother Protects Her Children

What else should she have done? From Tampa Free Press, we get the following story. Stand Your Ground: Florida Mom Shoots Intruder After He Breaks In And Threatens Her Children

This event took place on Sunday the 14th of June.

Once inside, McDonald aggressively confronted the mother and her two children in the foyer and began making threats. The homeowner repeatedly ordered McDonald to leave the house and warned him that she was armed and would shoot. When McDonald ignored the warnings and continued advancing toward her, the mother fired a single round, striking him in the arm.

He is a bit lucky he wasn't shot in the head or the heart.

Cops caught up with him at a local hospital, where he was arrested. This was not the first time he was arrested. Click thru for his history.

Following the recent home invasion, McDonald has now been charged with burglary with assault or battery.

Flagler County, Florida, is about 50 miles northeast of Orlando, on the Atlantic coast. It is also about 50 miles south of Jacksonville.

DAs Hate Self-Defense

The Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office on Tuesday dropped a murder charge against a suspect who fatally shot a man outside a nightclub north of downtown Orlando earlier this year after admitting they could not prove it wasn’t in self-defense.

This incident took place back in February. He was in jail until the 2nd of March, when a judge ruled that the prosecutors didn't have the case they hoped for, and a bond was issued.

They finally got around to admitting that they had no case.

Now I don't know what happened, and I don't know what the evidence said, but the judge said something about self-defense when he approved the bail amount. It may just be that I have a deep distrust of public officials, but I don't think Justice was ever a question. Winning is what DAs care about.

Neighbor Helping Neighbor - Self-Defense Edition

We have to look out for each other because otherwise we will lose all of civilization. Would-be robber shot, killed by neighbor while fighting with Miami Gardens homeowner, police say - CBS Miami

The would-be bad guy tried to break into a home. He got into an altercation with the homeowner, and the homeowner's girlfriend ran to a neighbor for help.

The unidentified neighbor then grabbed a gun and shot the would-be robber in the head. That person was rushed to a local hospital and was pronounced dead.

Miami Gardens is in the northern section of Miami-Dade County. It is about 5 miles west of the Atlantic coast, and about 5 miles east of the Everglades (Depending on how you measure the start of the Everglades).

Other neighbors were shocked.

Residents in the area said they never experienced something like this.

"It's very, very, very scary," the resident told CBS News Miami. "It was concerning because I'm here alone here."

May I suggest making friends with Sturm and Ruger, or Smith & Wesson?

The investigation is in early days, but Florida is a long way from becoming NYC when it comes to self-defense.

The dogs, and their owner, had apparently terrorized the neighborhood for a long time, but nothing was done.

A Florida woman was mauled to death by two dogs that neighbors say had terrorized the community — and now the animals' owner is in jail.

The dogs are being held by the county’s animal services unit and will be euthanized, authorities said.

Click thru for those details. It sounds to me like those dogs should have been euthanized long ago.

We are going to ignore why previously warned authorities because the answer will probably be obvious and less than complimentary. But why were these dogs a terror to the neighbors is somewhat troubling to me: It is Florida, dear people. Carry your effing gun because you know they are present and constant danger. And if they come near you, use deadly force to remain alive and unhurt as much as possible.

An Early Look at the Tolerance of Pride Celebrations

Or should that be Intolerance? Palm Beach Pride is not in June. Both Fort Lauderdale and Miami have a lock on June. When I lived in south Florida, you couldn't beat Miami. With maybe the exception of going to Key West, but trying to find a place to stay in the Keys was a nightmare. (Save the headache of going to the Keys for Fantasy Fest in October.)

For those of you not up on Florida politics, Broward County, home to Fort Lauderdale, is one the most, if not the most, deep blue counties in the state. When I lived there, Miami Beach was the home of many gay clubs.

This year Palm Beach Pride was the weekend of March 28th. (I think that matched up with the so-called "No Kings" thing.)

Arielle Scarcella is a YouTube creator I have come to like. I don't agree with her position on everything, but I think we see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, especially the insanity that has enveloped what used to be called the Gay Rights Movement, and how it has morphed into something I no long recognize.

She was apparently kicked out of Palm Beach Pride 2025, mostly for the crime of wearing a MAGA hat, so of course she came back in 2026.

Homeowners in Florida Are Armed

Bad guys haven't gotten that memo. Homeowner fires warning shot after man tries to break in, threatens to kill family, Volusia deputies say

The homeowner told deputies he was inside with his family "when he heard loud banging coming from the front door" of the home.

When Self couldn't get in through the front door, the homeowner told deputies, "Self moved to the carport entrance and began striking the carport door" while "screaming incoherently and aggressively."

The homeowner fired a warning shot into the ground. I don't like warning shots, and they are not legal in every jurisdiction. If you need to fire a weapon, it should be because the threat is imminent. If you want to send a message use your cellphone.

It did, however, convince Nathaniel Self to leave. Police caught up with him a short time later and took him into custody.

DeLand, Florida is in Volusia County. It is about a 35 mile drive north-northeast of Orlando. This incident took place "near DeLand."

Is this an issue of crazy people are dangerous, or were drugs involved?

Neighbors who spoke off camera said they believe Self came from a homeless encampment nearby. They said it's been a problem for some time, with people banging on their doors at all hours of the night, and they hope something gets done about it soon.

Self is charged with several things including attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling.

Self-defense is a human right.

Florida AG Smacks HOA Over Firearms Ban

There plenty of stories out there, apparently a few on Redit, and even some on YouTube, about Homeowners Associations, and the Karens that run them, getting smacked down while overstepping their authority. While most of those stories are fiction, this one is a true story.

A week or so ago, the board of directors for Tradition Community, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, changed their bylaws to forbid the carrying of weapons, concealed or open, in all common areas. That included offices, club house, pool, storm water areas (which are often set aside as parks), etc. It included residents of the community, guests, independent contractors, and employees of the association. Or so they thought.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is warning a Port St. Lucie homeowners’ association that its ban on firearms in common areas violates state law and could trigger legal action.

In a formal letter sent on Thursday to the Tradition Community Association, Inc., Uthmeier said the association’s policy prohibiting firearms in shared spaces conflicts with Florida statutes protecting the right to keep and bear arms.

Ouch. That is going to piss off the Karens who came up with this policy. It will impact them for 2 reasons.

1. They cannot forbid guns from the community, and they are scared of guns
2. They are not the Law

For the record, I consider HOAs to the evil. I lived under one for 7 months in Florida. It took me an extra few weeks to sell the condo. When I bought my current house, I researched to deed back to the 1840s, when the US military was first surveying this part of the country, to make sure that there were no covenants or restrictions. There are not.

Unfortunately this gentleman lived in an HOA, a homeowners association, which if you don't know is basically diet communism. It's where a bunch of people build some nice houses, then they get together and they're like:

Hey we got all these nice houses; you know what we need? More government! We've got federal, state, county, municipal... it's not enough. We need even more rules. We should come together, designate a tribunal of Elder Karens to make all the important decisions for us.

Concealed Carry Still Not Allowed on Florida College Campuses

A year after a gunman opened fire on Florida State University, trained college and university faculty can carry guns onto campus under a bill Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Friday.

The training is fairly involved, but at least the campuses will not be completely disarmed.

Under the new law, HB 757, the program will be extended to colleges and universities. Staff hoping to become guardians must complete 144 hours of training — 132 hours with firearms. Although the program isn’t mandatory, college and university presidents have the power to appoint their school guardians.

But they can't allow legal adults with concealed carry licenses on college campuses. Oh, no. Because while they can be armed in most places in the state of Florida, when they step onto a college campus they lose the ability to be responsible. Or something. Or is it just that the college students don't "feel safe" unless they are in a defenseless victim zone.

It is the 21st Century and feelings are important. [Heavy sigh]

I'm sure the Left, especially the college professors and students will be screaming and crying and running for their safe spaces in no time.

According to evidence presented at trial, on August 17, 2025, [Desiree Doreen] Segari posted a video on TikTok calling for MAGA supporters to be shot on sight. Segari stated, “so if we all get our guns and use our second amendment right…and you see somebody with a MAGA hat, ‘pew pew’ that’s what we do, that’s the way, it’s the only way.”

Then she went on TikTok the next day, and doubled down on the threats of shooting.

She was found guilty of "interstate communication of a threat to injure." She was found guilty in January, and sentenced in early May.

You would think that would be well known in 2026. Lake County Sheriff's Office investigating shooting in Mt. Dora

During their investigation, it was determined that the male subject arrived at the residence and knocked and banged on the front door and windows prior to entering the residence through the unlocked sliding glass door. After entering the residence, the male subject then kicked in the male resident’s bedroom door, at which point he was shot two times, according to authorities.

The guy who got shot was taken to a local hospital. The investigation is just getting started.

The police did say this was in relation to a domestic dispute, but offered no other information.

Mt. Dora, Florida is about a 30 mile drive northwest of downtown Orlando.

Self-defense is a human right, and this didn't take place in NYC.

A Student Dared to Have Conservative Opinions in Her Class

Because the school system is not about teaching. It is about indoctrination.

How would you respond to an uninvited guest breaking into your home, shortly after midnight?

A homeowner who was awakened by the man’s attempts to get into the home told him to leave. When the suspect continued to try to break in, the homeowner opened fire, hitting the man at least once, police. He died at a local hospital.

Kenwood is a neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is about 2 miles east-northeast of downtown.

There were three adults and a child home at the time.

So the shooter was, I take it, protecting his family.

The shooter has not been charged, because self-defense is legal in Florida. It is also a human right.

Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.

Home invaders are still getting shot. One shot during suspected home invasion on University Boulevard North, Jacksonville police say | First Coast News

A man was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a suspected home invasion-turned-shooting on University Boulevard North, near Jacksonville University, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office investigators.

This took place at four o'clock in the afternoon, so maybe he thought no one would be home. Still, home invasion is a bad bet in Florida. A large number of homeowners are armed.

The guy who got shot is described as having "life-threatening injuries." The parties were detained for questioning.

Self-defense is a human right, and Florida has a long history of recognizing it as a legal right. (Backup link)

This incident happened in February, but the bad guy was in the hospital for some time before being arrested recently. This occurred in greater Tallahassee, Florida.

On February 6, [Scott] Scruggs allegedly broke in to a home in the 5400 block of Touraine Drive.

Detectives found Scruggs with a gunshot wound, according to LCSO.

Detectives determined Scruggs entered the home uninvited and refused to leave after several requests from the homeowner.

If a homeowner who is armed with a gun asks you to leave, you should probably leave. This guy didn't leave. The homeowner shot him.

Cops showed up and had him taken to a local hospital.

The article linked above doesn't specify the charges, but those were listed a F*c*book post from the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

Following a thorough investigation, Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputies have identified and arrested 42-year-old Scott Scruggs on charges of Burglary of a Structure While Armed and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Scruggs is now in the county lockup.

A Comparison of Florida and New York State

I saw this bit on the relative populations of New York and Florida, and some data about how much the states spend. I found it to be interesting.

First the population data that I ran across. I'm surprised that New York has stayed that stable. I would have expected a decrease in the population.

It made me wonder about the respective state budgets. So I turned to an AI app for some info. I was mostly limited to proposed budgets, as opposed to what they actually spent based on the time I had for additional research.

Overall, the Executive Budget proposes total spending of $252 billion in FY 2026, an increase of $8.6 billion or 3.6% from revised FY 2025 estimates.

Because of course there needs to be an increase.

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025–2026, totaling $117.4 billion after $567 million in line-item vetoes.

Florida has a population that is 19% larger than New York State, and yet has a budget that is only 46.6 percent of the budget of New York State. Less than half.

Now there may some reasons for spending more in certain areas. Florida doesn't have to plow snow, after all. But to spend twice as much as Florida, on a smaller population... I think someone might need to open a fraud investigation in Albany. They certainly need to ask what they are spending money on.

The Media Is Still Shocked that Gays Own Guns

This article sounds a bit like an extended advertisement for a group called Equality in Arms, which is an organization out of Orlando that focuses on training people new to the idea of owning and carrying guns.

“When you’re carrying a firearm, you’re carrying a huge responsibility,” [Christopher] Fernandez [owner and lead instructor of EIA] says. “You almost literally have the power of life and death in your hands. I teach people how to walk through the world being a good, sane, thoughtful, principled person who happens to carry a firearm. That’s a huge focus of my concealed carry class.”

They do get to Pink Pistols, and a few other organizations, toward the end of the article. Pink Pistols was formed in 2000, but the media hasn't gotten that message. It is a left-wing publication, so they have to have a few paragraphs about ICE, because Journalism.

Florida Takes Aim at HOAs

‘Failed experiment:’ Florida committee unanimously OKs plan to scrap HOAs

After a state lawmaker brought up eliminating HOAs last year, a new Florida bill would allow residents to do exactly that, according to a report from our sister station WKMG in Orlando.

The bill — HB 657 — was filed back in December by state Rep. Juan Porras (R-Miami), who blasted HOAs as a “failed experiment.”
