An Extra Musical Interlude From My Daily Kona

A classic song from a classic movie. My Daily Kona: Monday Music "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins

And the rest of the post is worth your time as well. A scene or 2 from Heartbreak Ridge, and other stuff.

Does Anyone Know How to Contact Folks At the gunbloggers.com Site?

There seems to be no way to contact anyone about updates.

Pneuma

I've said before that Danny Carey is one of the best, if not THE best, drummer working in Rock & Roll today. We have a video today, courtesy of Vic Firth, the drum stick company, that highlights his abilities. His use of odd time signatures, polyrhythms and polymeters is prominent in this song, and you get a good look at the unicursal hexagram that figures prominently in his equipment, and life.

You can find the lyrics at this link.

I have to say that this is not my favorite song by Tool, and not my favorite song from this album. But this is the best video we have of Danny Carey showing his mastery of the drums. And as several people pointed out, he was 58 or so when this video was shot; he is in amazing shape.

This song is "Pneuma" by Tool from their album Fear Inoculum, though this version was recorded live in concert in Boston in 2020, before COVID-19 canceled everything.

If you are interested in music theory, and you have a half-hour or so, you can find a good analysis of the song at this link. The complex time signatures, the key and harmonics, the philosophical foundations of the lyrics and more. (Note: the analysis is not perfect...)

There are very many "reaction" videos to this live recording. Most are uninteresting, but some from other drummers and drum instructors may be of interest. People who've never heard Danny Carey (and should have) are blown away, and not just by the alternating sections of different time signatures. At different points Carey's hands and feet are all keeping slightly different time. Polyrhythmic.

First They Want to Defund the Police...

Now they want the police to deliver Justice. Family of brothers slain in Black Friday shooting at Arden Fair speak out.

“It’s time for the community to stand up, take back our community, teach our children different,” [Jamilia Land, a local activist with ties to the James family] said. “Give them something other than guns and rap music to pick up and follow behind.”

To her, that means more involvement from civic leaders and local advocacy groups, especially in Black communities.

This is described as a "targeted incident" and they assure the public that there is not a general threat. Does that translate into "gang activity?" I can no longer decipher the New Speak used by the media.

The family of the boys moved to Sacramento in 2018 from Monroe, Louisiana, according to Schenk. They had been seeking a safer area to live in. “This family did everything they were supposed to do ... only to come here to be gunned down anyway.”

“Everything they were supposed to do?” I won't even delve into that one.

The police have not released much of a description, but apparently do have a bit of survelliance video to work with. Activists are saying what they always do. The community needs to "do more." People need to make better decisions. But they won't get into details because that flies in the face of decades of other activism.

Hat tip to The Other McCain and Activists Demand ‘Justice’ After Black Teens Murdered in Sacramento Mall, in which he notes...

Remember when Black Lives Matter activists made “defund the police” the core demand of their movement? After two teenagers were shot to death Friday, now they want police to apprehend the killer.

Cooperation Is Touted as the Key to Safety

"Just give them what they want, and they will leave you alone." That is what the gun-hating-Left always says. This guy didn't get that memo. Clerk Shot During Robbery At Centennial Gas Station, Suspect At Large

Investigators said the suspect asked the clerk for cigarettes before pulling out a gun and demanding cash. The clerk was shot in the stomach after handing over an unknown amount of money.

As for the "give them what they want" crowd, they never want to discuss rape in those terms. And usually refuse to discuss anything if you bring up that subject.

Cooperating with a criminal is a strategy for dealing with a violent encounter. It is not a guarantee. In some cases it might work, and it might be the first thing you need to (at least appear to) be doing. But in the long run, I am not sure it is a good strategy. Violent criminals do not stop being violent criminals because of anything you are or are not doing.

Of course being armed in your own self-defense is also no guarantee.

Nothing in this world is absolutely certain but death and next winter’s snow.
 - Marion Zimmer-Bradley. The Saga of the Renunciates

Still, some strategies are better than others.

So How Is That “Affordable Bail” Program Working Out?

If you make something cheaper you will see more of it. And crime in Illinois has very low cost from the point of view of the criminals.

There is never a shortage of stories to tell about people being accused of heinous crimes while free on affordable bail or parole. But Tuesday’s bond court hearings in Chicago produced a cornucopia of examples. Legitimate turkeys of justice. We’ll be telling you about them today.

He was sentenced to 9 years, but that was cut in half. It was his 5th conviction for drugs, and he had another for being a felon with a firearm. Justice Turkey #1: Out of prison for 15 days, he murdered the wrong man in revenge killing, prosecutors say

On August 10, Justin Garmon walked out of the downstate Hill Correctional Center a free man. Fifteen days later, prosecutors say, he executed a man in the Austin neighborhood who he thought killed a friend. Not only was the August 25 killing captured on multiple video cameras, but police also say Garmon allegedly killed the wrong person.

But then if he was smart, he probably wouldn't be a criminal.

I believe this might be a violation of the terms of his probation. Justice Turkey #2: On 19th day of gun probation, he tried to kill 3 cops with a fully-automatic firearm, prosecutors say

On March 10, police arrested 21-year-old Kamari Pleasant after allegedly finding a handgun in his car during a traffic stop. On November 2, he pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon in exchange for a sentence of probation from Judge Carol Howard.

Nineteen days later, on November 21, Pleasant fired 19 rounds from an automatic-firing handgun at cops who were chasing him on the Far South Side, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Violence appears to be the only response to anything. Justice Turkey #3: Gun felon shot a woman while on parole AND on bail, prosecutors say

A Chicago man who’s on parole for illegal gun possession and on bail for another felony case shot a woman last week as the victim’s mother, cousin, and three young children sat nearby, according to prosecutors.

Wouldn't being arrested for a felony be enough to terminate his parole? I guess not.

Do you think the people of any Democratic-Party-controlled city/county will ever demand law and order? I don't believe they will in my lifetime.

Saudi Arabia Prosecuting Women for the Crime of Driving

Or for the crime of daring to speak out in the face of oppression. Leading Saudi women’s activist referred to terrorism court

A leading Saudi women’s rights activist who’s been imprisoned for 2 1/2 years and drawn attention to the kingdom’s hard limits on dissent will be tried by a court established to oversee terrorism cases, her family said Wednesday.

The referral of Loujain al-Hathloul’s case to the Specialized Criminal Court is a setback for efforts to push for her swift release and means she will face charges related to terrorism and national security.

She was arrested for driving shortly before the Saudi kingdom relaxed its rules about women driving. Her true crime, is questioning authority. That is forbidden by Muslims and Democrats, and some US police departments.

Al-Hathloul is among Saudi Arabia’s most prominent women’s rights activists. She was detained amid a sweeping crackdown spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has ushered in wide-ranging reforms but has simultaneously clamped down on activists who have long pushed for change.

In other words, shut up and do what we tell you to do.

And this is the nation the Useless Nitwits at the UN selected in 2015 to head the Human Rights Council. But that's OK, they got removed from that body. Now the Chinese are on it. (Extermination of Muslims? What are you talking about?)

Malpasset Dam Failure

Ruins of Malpasset DamOdds are, you don't know as much as you think you do. Malpasset Dam (France, 1959) Pronounced "Mal-pa-say."

The image is from Wikimedia Commons. Click for a larger view and more information.

Construction started in 1952. Filling of the reservoir started in 1954. Failure occurred December 2, 1959 just before the reservoir was completely full. 421 people were killed by the flood.

At the time of completion in 1954, it was reported as the thinnest arch dam of its height (218 feet) with a maximum thickness of 22.2 feet. The dam was equipped with one un-gated, notched spillway at the center of its 736-foot-long crest.

The dam was situated on a type of gneiss (metamorphic rock) which has proved to be impervious enough to water to make reservoirs possible. But this particular gneiss had series of very thin layers (foliation - from the Latin for leaves) which made the foundation unstable.

Geological investigations that took place after the dam’s failure revealed that it had been built on a gneiss formation with a foliation structure exhibiting a slope of thirty to fifty degrees in the downstream direction of the dam. In addition, a fault oriented perpendicular to the river was discovered just downstream of the dam.

The foliation pattern of the foundation in combination with the presence of the fault and the forces associated with the water accumulating behind the dam caused the gneiss along the left abutment to enter a compressive state in which the permeability of the formation decreased with the increasing pressure behind the dam. Uplift pressure at the abutment caused by this phenomenon increased with the filling of the reservoir

The height of the dam was higher than the terrain on the left side, and so a thrust block was added to make up the difference. Uplift caused the thrust block to move, and the dam to fail.

A more complete report on the failure is available at the following link. The traps behind the failure of Malpasset arch dam, France, in 1959 I think this was written by someone whose first language was French. Or maybe it is just a very dry technical treatise on the geology of dam foundations. I could not get through all of it.

One of the things that paper makes clear, is that the assumptions of the day lulled the engineers and builders into feeling confident that the dam would last a long time. In other words, the moral of the story is: You don't find problems that you don't know to look for.

This Movietone News footage from the UK, shows images of the aftermath. (The footage of a dam bursting is, I think, lifted from a Hollywood film.)

But the internet is sometimes forever.

According to the study, “in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States.”

Wait, what? Really?

That’s what it says. And, it should come as no surprise that the study was deleted within days.

The Liars Running The States

This is mostly about California and Governor Newsom violating his own orders. Tucker: California gov breaking own COVID-19 rules sums up 2020 | Fox News. But not completely. (Other states are mentioned at the end.)

Here you have plutocrats dining with lobbyists, ignoring the very orders they are so self-righteously imposing on others gorging themselves in seclusion, as the people they're supposed to be helping wither and die.

And then when they're caught, they lie about it. How perfect is that? It's all there. Every element: hypocrisy, greed, selfishness, stupidity. This is our national moment in a single picture. Move over Dorothea Lange.

The video is 12 minutes, but it is really worth your time.

Go watch it.

Use the Tool That Is Available

In this case, it was a shovel. Man uses shovel to break into home, homeowner fights back

Would not be my first choice, but then it worked out OK in the long run.

First the bad-guy used a shovel to break into a pickup truck by smashing the driver's side window. The family saw the activitiy on security cameras, and called police.

Then the bad-guy started banging on the front door with the shovel, trying to break the window.

“Every dad’s worst nightmare,” said Joey Archer. “I grabbed the shovel and yanked it out of his hand, and he had the butt of it, so I grabbed it, yanked it and hooked him in the head with (it) twice just wham, wham.”

It took 6 minutes for cops to arrive, which is not a bad response time, especially given that they are in what appears to be a somewhat rural area.

As for what they will do in the future...

“Better cameras, tighter security and a shotgun and pistol, that’s how we’re going to respond to it and educating our kids and planning, planning to be as safe as possible,” said Joey.

The Archers said they wanted to share their story to help inform others of the potential dangers that can happen anywhere.

Liberals and Crime

Their policies encourage it. Minneapolis momentum is being crushed by the crime wave.

A 60-year-old woman at the grocery store is beaten and robbed in the parking lot in Minneapolis.

The store security chief, Scott Nelson, experienced with this kind of crime, immediately began reviewing film from monitoring cameras at nearby businesses.

Committed to pursuing justice for Elaine, Nelson laments that we “need police service and we need more of it. South Minneapolis is worse than I’ve ever seen it.” He describes the surge of 20-plus attacks a day that are now striking people just going about their daily business, people like Elaine.

Usually in a stolen car, perpetrators Nelson describes as “young teens, 12-to-14 years old” cruise from lot to lot in neighborhood business districts, waiting for a victim, “like a deer hunter sits in a tree.”

If the perpetrators of these crimes are caught, there is little punishment, and so they are back on the street doing more crime.

Now our city’s future hangs in the balance. As we teeter between proclamations and inaction, women are attacked while running daily errands. Carjackings are perpetrated in broad daylight; my daughter witnessed one the other day as she walked her dog. A North Side community group is suing the city for holding the concept of safety hostage to the concept of reform.

There is more that is worth your time.

Hat tip to The Other McCain and The Biden Agenda: ‘South Minneapolis Is Worse Than I’ve Ever Seen It’

As I explained yesterday (“The Vision of the Anointed Returns”) a nationwide crime wave is likely to be one consequence of a Biden presidency. Democrats are anti-police and pro-criminal, and what is happening in Minneapolis is an example of where such a policy leads.

There is also a lot more at The Other McCain, including a look at the carjacking situation in Minneapolis, of which there have been a few.

Tomorrow We Fight

I tripped over this song as part of a playlist (YouTube I think) on Epic Music. I took note because I really like the singer Svrcina ("sur-cee-nah"), who is singer and songwriter Molly Svrcina. I think that family name is Czech, though I am not certain. When a name looks like someone dropped a couple of vowels, you can bet it is Eastern European. Anyway, she was born in Detroit. I hope you like her voice as much as I do.

This song is “Tomorrow We Fight (feat. Svrcina)” by Tommee Profitt.

The Last Conservative on Campus?

Maybe not quite the last. The Other McCain brings us The Anti-‘Anti-Racist’ Professor

Donald Douglas has been a professor of history and political science at California’s Long Beach City College for 20 years, and for the past decade or so he has been besieged by leftist trolls because he is a conservative who blogs at American Power. Under the terms of identity politics, Professor Douglas counts toward his campus’s “diversity” calculus as a POC (“person of color”), and he also contributes to the kind of diversity that colleges really need — intellectual diversity. If he is not the only Republican on the LBCC faculty, he is certainly the most outspoken, and this has made him the object of hassles with LBCC’s administration.

Or as Small Dead Animals asks, "What's the Opposite of Diversity?" University.

Go read the whole thing.

This Is Strange Enough It Deserves a Conspiracy/UFO Theory or Something

News of the Weird. Mysterious metal monolith found in Utah desert

Utah public safety officers were stunned last week when they stumbled on what looked like something out of a sci-fi space film: a chrome monolith standing upright, deep in the remote desert. [SNIP]

The structure was firmly planted in the ground and didn’t look like it had been dropped there, according to Hutchings. He estimated its height at between 10 and 12 feet.

”We were kind of joking around that if one of us suddenly disappears, then the rest of us make a run for it,” he said.

They make reference to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, but this monolith is quite different. Still, it does bring that movie to mind.

So. Is this the UFO base deep in the desert, the entrace to a Bond Villian's secret lair, or what?

Stupid Criminals

In a world of senseless crime, this one seems to be extra-senseless. Video: Officer chases down suspect who opened fire at traffic stop

It was a traffic stop-turned-shootout on I-40 when a State Police officer was ambushed as she walked up to the passenger side window, and was shot in the hands. The newly-released police footage gives a better idea of what led to the Sept. 12 shooting and how Officer Sharron Duran eventually tracked down the suspect while she was hurt.

After shooting the officer, and fleeing the scene, he stopped a short distance later and surrendered.

So instead of dealing with $100 traffic ticket, he is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, agravated assault of the same, fleeing, etc. Truly stupid.

People Don't Like to Think About the Worth of a Human Life

So how much life-insurance do you have? I am betting it is less than $6 million. First round of US lockdowns cost $169billion and saved 29,000 lives - about $6million for each death that was avoided, study finds

  • Study looked at cost of government-ordered shutdowns from March to May
  • Found that lockdowns saved 29,000 lives at a total cost of $169 billion
  • Costs included job losses and declines in companies' market value
  • Study comes as states impose new restrictions and virus surges

It isn't clear if the numbers take into account the increase in suicide during the same period or not. And of course there is no mention of the actions of the governor of New York to send COVID-19 patients into nursing homes, which resulted in a lot of dead old people.

And then there is the isolation and general assault on our liberty.

And $92K in child support? At $800 per month that is more than 9 years of ignoring responsibility. Instead getting a job, he is fighting the police. Okay then.

Felony Murder in California?

I was sure the Left Coast thought that this kind of thing was unfair. Or something. Murder Charge Filed In Fatal, Desert Hot Springs Home-Invasion

Murder and other charges were filed Tuesday against a felon whose alleged accomplice in a Desert Hot Springs residential break-in was fatally shot by an occupant of the targeted home.

The idea that you are responsible the foreseeable consequences of your actions is, I thought, too conservative for the folks in California. Individual responsibility? Maybe that is only LA and San Fran that have issues. With this, they have plenty of other issues.

Don't think you are at risk due to stupid? You are not paying attention.

Four quarter-pound hamburgers, six quarter-pound double burgers, 12 corndogs and a Queso burger — that’s what Roberto Carlos Silva, 23, allegedly ordered from Sonic Drive-Thru in Nebraska using an app in an identity-theft case last week. Silva was arrested and released from jail Thursday. He returned to Sonic on Saturday and shot four people.

Two died; two are in hospital. All four worked at Sonic. He is also accused to torching a U-Haul truck.

So how is that affordable bail/no-bail system working out? I mean, he was a non-violent offender when he was released from jail. Now he is accused of being a murderer.

An Epic Failure of the Victim-selection Process

If you are going to break into a home, make sure there is not a police officer associated with that residence. Break-in suspect shot dead by off-duty Miami cop, police say

A 13-year-old was home when someone tried to break in.

The boy called his mother, who then called the boy’s father, a City of Miami police officer.

“Her son called her that somebody was trying to break in,” said Christina Carmenate, a cousin of the homeowner. “They called her ex-husband, who is a police officer. He came, and at that point, I don’t know what else has happened.”

A guy was found shot in the driveway, and pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate, as is normal protocol with all police-involved shootings. Once the investigation is complete, the results will be turned over to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office for a legal review.

Defense of self and family is a human-right.

What Were You Doing When You Were 15?

I'm guessing it wasn't anything like this. Mayfair Mall Mass Shooting Suspect Arrested in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin & He’s Only 15

“The Wauwatosa Police Department is pleased to announce the arrest of a 15 year old Hispanic male in connection with the shooting at Mayfair Mall,” said Police Chief Barry Weber in the Sunday news conference.

And apparently "Gangs" is the new word that has been banned by whoever it is that bans words.

“Photos of our suspect were not released to the media in fear of compromising the investigation,” said Weber, who added that the mass shooting was “not a random one. It was an altercation between two groups.” Several members of those groups were injured. Police said they were still investigating the groups’ “connections.” Several arrests have been made, they said.

Oh, they do mention the word "gang" in paragraph 5, but they aren't sure if these two groups qualify. Right. Because apparently keeping databases of known gang members is racist. Or something.

I think it is fair to say that when groups of 15-year-olds are shooting at each other, something is very wrong. For my previous thoughts on this incident, and the media reaction see the following link: A Tale of Two Cities - OR - More Media Bias?

Fat Man

Jethro Tull had morphed into what they would become, before I started listening to them. They started as an R&B band. That changed by the time they got to the album Stand Up.

A cornucopia of delights, Stand Up is remarkable for creating synergy between vastly different musical styles: blues, rock, classical, Celtic, folk.

This song is "Fat Man" by Jethro Tull from the 1969 album Stand Up.

The Stupid Can Kill You

It isn't that hard, really. When Police Yell ‘Drop the Gun,’ Guess What Happens If You Don’t?

This was not his first interaction with law enforcement.

A previous exercise in criminal stupidity nearly killed him when, in 2014, he and an accomplice attempted to rob a man who shot Rasheed twice.

Then in June, as two police officers approached him, he ran and then fired 4 shots at the cops. There is security camera, and body camera footage. (Click thru for the bodycam footage.)

What part of the sentence “drop the gun” is so hard to understand?

Another Liberal City, Another Milestone

A Milestone that they proabably did not want to reach. City of LA Records 300th Murder for the Year, Worst Mark in Over a Decade

In late September, the LAPD and LA County Sheriff’s Department blamed a sharp increase in shootings and murders on a long running gang feud that had re-erupted in South Los Angeles, and said the effects of the pandemic had made it more difficult for gang counselors to intervene.

“We haven’t seen that type of week in over 10 years,” LAPD Assistant Chief Robert Arcos told NBC4’s I-Team on Oct. 6. At the time, crime data showed the number of murders had increased by 21% over the same period in 2019 and the number of shooting victims went up by about 18%.

The people keep electing politicians who don't want law and order, so the cities are not seeing law and order.

Carjacking is Out of Control in Chicago

The Criminal Justice System is off the hook in Chicago. Charges are dismissed. People are released. Prosecutions are bungled. And when you make something cheaper you get more of it. Gunmen carjack driver in Loop as hijackings surge | CWB Chicago

The image at the right - which belongs to CWBChicago - is a graph of year-to-date carjackings in the City of Chicago comparing 2020 to the past few years. Click for a larger view.

Carjacking reports are soaring across Chicago this year, according to city records. Through Halloween, Chicagoans reported 1,054 vehicular hijackings in 2020. That compares to 482 cases during the same period last year.

The Criminal Justice System is doing everything it can to destroy order in Chicago. Not the cops so much; they have finally started calling out the State's Attorney. The unions that is. Second City Cop has been calling out Crimesha, otherwise known as Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, for some time. She was just reelected, so you have to believe that the majority of the people in Chicago are in favor of anarchy. Anyone who is not in favor of anarchy should head for the exits, and you have to go at least as far as the Collar Counties (that is what they are called in Chicagoland): Will County, Dupage County, Lake County, McHenry County, and Kane County. You need to go that far to get away from Crimesha's domain.

Or you could opt to get out of The People's Republic of Illinois itself.

BLM UK: Starting to Look Like 1930s Germany

Counting down to the end... BLM UK has a uniformed paramilitary militia

Yesterday in Fulham, I observed a group of ten or so men and woman striding purposefully down North End Road. They were dressed in black uniforms, with ‘tactical’ vests displaying FF Force on one side and ‘Forever Family’ on the other… and they are a Marxist militia adjunct of BLM UK. This is entirely illegal.

So what could go wrong?

2020 is starting to have a rather 1930s feel about it. The pressure cooker is starting to shake.

Actually I think it looks more like 1930s Italy, than Germany, but to each his own.

History. Ignorance. Rinse. Repeat.

Good Guys 3, Bad Guys 0

They suffered a failure of the victim-selection process. One intruder killed, one wounded in shooting during home invasion on Eleanor Street

Several people had entered a home around 7 p.m. in the 3700 block of Eleanor Street armed with handguns, according to a news release. The homeowner fired at the invaders and struck two suspects.

One would-be bad-guy is dead, one is in the hospital, and the third is in jail.

A Tale of Two Cities - OR - More Media Bias?

So there was a shooting Friday at a Wisconsin Mall: Wauwatosa mall shooting.

This has received national attention. CNN, Washington Post, and media outlets as far away as Tampa, Florida and the United Kingdom have stories. About a "mass shooting" in a predominantly white suburb of Milwaukee.

Early Saturday morning there was a mass-shooting in Chicago that has gotten almost no coverage, even in Chicago. Auburn Gresham shooting leaves 6 hurt after shots fired into group of people, Chicago police say. Of the 77 neighborhoods in the City of Chicago, Auburn-Gresham is the 6th most dangerous neighborhood. (Reference HeyJackass!)

Now I suppose the fact that the Chicago shooting happened at 2 AM, or so, that it could be all those national media outlets, and international outlets, have just not gotten around to reporting on the situation in Chicago. Any bets on whether they do?

Or is the story that mass shootings are not news in Chicago. HeyJackass! tracks multiple shootings in Chicago with 2020 Multi-victim Shootings. There have been 7 incidents in Chicago that resulted in 6 people shot. There have been 13 incidents with 5 victims and 27 incidents with 4 victims.

Find the previous post on this particular brand of media bias at this link.

It Could Be Worse...

Spin? What's that? This is just Chicago Media playing defense for their friends in government. Chicago nears 700 homicides in 2020, a milestone reached just one other time since 1998

They try to say that 2016 was even more of the sh*t show, but they do cough up the truth eventaully

As of Thursday evening, 694 deaths in Chicago have been ruled homicides, according to a Sun-Times analysis of Cook County medical examiner’s office data. The city had 680 murders by this time in 2016, according to Chicago Police Department statistics.

And as Second City Cop has noted, the "official statistics" are a bit questionable.

UPDATE: Whichever Groot apologist keeps chiming-in in the comments about "it's only 681, ISP has highway killings" you must be new around here. It doesn't get reported by investigative agency. The City lies or delays reporting via "death investigations" etc.

HeyJackass.com has been the ONLY trusted source of numbers here for years.

Click the HeyJackass! link for the current numbers. Chicago hit the magic 700 number on either the 13th or the 14th of November.

But back to the story linked at the top... Chicago did set one interesting record this year.

This year, Chicago saw its most violent day in 60 years, with 18 murders recorded on May 31.

Even the political appointee has started to point fingers. Not that anything will come of it.

“At the end of the day, our endgame strategy is to arrest violent felons, but if violent felons are getting right out of jail, we need cooperation and collaboration with other partners within the criminal justice system,” [CPD Supt. David] Brown

Experts Said - 12 to 18 Months for Vaccine from May 15

Why we don't trust the experts? - OR - Where would we be without experts? Why We Have the Worst “Experts,” Chapter 12,186

President Donald Trump has suggested multiple times that a coronavirus vaccine could come within months, an accelerated timeline that prominent health experts and veteran vaccine developers say is unlikely absent a miracle.

Not only were they wrong about the 12 months. There are COMPETING vaccines. So they were more than just wrong. Could be they were lying. Could be they are not the experts that they pretend to be. Could be why we don't listen to them anymore.

Funny how often Trump turns out to be right about something the “experts” dismissed as outlandish and irresponsible. Start with moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Yeah, the violent unrest in the Middle East in the aftermath of that provocative move still hasn’t abated. What’s that? Oh, never mind.

Experts gonna expert.

This Gender-reveal Insanity Has To Stop

I know this story is from a couple of weeks back, but the lesson is still worth learning. Don't. Be. Stupid.

This one killed a person. Sheriff: Iowa Gender Reveal Party Explosion Was Stunt Gone Fatally Awry

Authorities say an Iowa family’s attempt at a gender reveal party for a soon-to-be-born baby went horribly wrong when a homemade device that was meant to discharge colored powder instead exploded like a pipe bomb, killing a 56-year-old relative.

That's going to put a damper on the festivities.

This isn't the first time this insanity has caused problems. Gender-reveal pyrotechnic sparked massive El Dorado fire.

A smoke generating pyrotechnic device used at a gender-reveal party ignited one of the 23 major fires burning in California, fire officials announced on Sunday evening.

Before it was done, The El Dorado fire burned more than 22,000 acres.

And the first link at the top references a similar issue in Arizona.

A similar incident caused a major wildfire in Arizona in 2017 , when an off-duty border patrol agent accidentally set off a blaze that burned 73 square miles.

Early Thanksgiving Dinner with Friends

Turkey. Stuffing, both in the bird and not, in case someone had issues. (Why do you think we call it stuffing?) Mashed potatoes and gravy. Sweet potatoes - two different kinds. Brussles sprouts. And of course more turkey. Followed by pumpkin pie and carrot cake, for those who don't like pumpkin.

There may have been some wine consumed as well, though I think some may have opted for beer.

And a good time was had by all.

Since my sister has decided to cancel the family get together, this may be all the Thanksgiving I get. Though I am hoping for another shot at the turkey and pumpkin pie.

Sovereign Citizen Bingo

OK this is both disturbing and funny. The ‘Sovereign Citizen’ Movement Is Dangerous, and Yet Often Hilarious

The “sovereign citizen” movement is a menace to public safety, and symptomatic of profound problems in our society. At the same time, however, it is vastly entertaining to watch these geniuses get completely wrecked by cops, which is how these confrontations typically end.

There are 3 videos between about 10 and 20 minutes each, so grab a coffee (it is still the morning!) and enjoy. And remember, "Crazy people are dangerous."

Another Failure of the Victim-selection Process

He thought breaking into a home in California was a good idea. He was wrong. Armed home invasion stuns Desert Hot Springs residents - KESQ. Oh, and the neighbors were shocked.

Desert Hot Springs Police said an armed intruder was killed by gunfire during an attempted home invasion. He was shot by a resident of this home during the crime.

It is normal for the neighbors to be shocked, but even the police spokesman appeared flustered.

"Yes, it is cause you would think you be safe at your own home yeah we talk this real serious," said Chief Jim Henson.

You are not protected by your zip code. You may have a statistically better chance of being left alone in certain areas, but your risk is not zero. You do in fact live in The Real World™ where crime can, and often does, happen. You should plan accordingly.

Self-defense is a human-right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.

Media Bias?

So is it that they care more about dead suburbanites, or they don't want to spread bad news about the deplorable conditions in major, Democrat-Party-controlled cities? Either way they are biased. Maybe they are also incompetent.

So a murder/suicide took place in Houston. 5 shot, 3 dead including the shooter. Three dead, others injured in west Houston shooting

Five people were shot, three fatally, on Wednesday afternoon during what appeared to be a domestic disturbance at a west Houston home, police said.

Now there is a fair amount of coverage of this story from Houston media outlets, which is not surprising, but there has also been a lot of attention on this story from as far away as Minneapolis, and San Francisco. That is either ghoulish, or it is in service of some narrative.

In the meantime, there is no national coverage of the daily carnage in Chicago, or New York City, or Baltimore. A similar story from St. Louis seems to be getting no national attention, aside from it happening on the south side of that city.

Chance

Olga Vitalievna Yakovleva (Ольга Витальевна Яковлева), better known by her stage-name Origa, was born in the old Soviet Union, in Novosibirsk Oblast, an area of southwestern Siberia. She made a name for herself working mostly in Japan. Sadly she died of lung cancer at the age of 44 in 2015. I think she had a haunting voice, and I quite like her work. Most of it anyway.

This is "Chance" by Origa from the 2005 album Aurora. This is the Japanese version of the song.

I actually prefer the Russian version of this song, but it is available only to YouTube premium members. That link is for anyone with that membership. (Note I can't listen to it.) Here is a link to Spotify, but it may be only available to Premium members of that service as well.
