West Virginia Expands Constitutional Carry

The Gateway Pundit has a story about West Virginia recognizing that 18-year-olds are adults. West Virginia Expands Constitutional Carry to 18–20-Year-Olds

In a massive win for the Second Amendment and constitutional freedoms, West Virginia’s governor has signed legislation expanding “constitutional carry” to include 18- to 20-year-old adults.

It always seemed insane that legal adults in this country didn't have every legal right. But then when I was 19 or 20 years old they raised the legal drinking age from 18 to 21. As you can imagine, that didn't go over well in all sections of society.

I Miss Living in a Civilized Society

Evil is once again on display. Judge slams teen killer who bragged about store clerk murder

Bre'juan Williams-Hampton was 14 when he killed a 19-year-old store clerk. Because of his age, he could not be sentenced to life without parole. He will be eligible for parole in 15 years.

After the fatal shooting, Williams said he "went home and ate that ice cream," which prosecutors said exhibited "extreme callousness" and no care for human life.

"Mr. Williams further exhibited that same callousness in the statements he made to corrections officers and bailiffs during his trial, including: 'Caden (the victim) is a b— a— N-word,'" Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Madison Tuck said, per courtroom footage posted online

So what were doing at the age of 14? I'm guessing that murder wasn't on the agenda.

Was This a Mini Crime Spree?

A recent West Virginia shooting has a complicated backstory. Deputies: Man shot by Kanawha County homeowner identified as suspect in stolen vehicle pursuit

There was little information available when this story first came out. (See the link below.) Now there is more info.

A West Virginia homeowner was working on a home that was not his primary residence, when he was accosted by an intruder armed with a knife and a baseball bat. He ended up shooting the intruder.

Two days before the shooting occurred, there was this.

The KCSO says investigators have discovered that Duff was also the suspect in a high-speed pursuit on Aug. 6 involving a stolen vehicle from Pennsylvania.

Deputies say the pursuit went through Cross Lanes into Putnam County and back to Kanawha County before the vehicle crashed on Poca River Road, which is near Lick Branch Road. The suspect ran into the woods, and deputies and K-9 units were not able to locate him.

Duff did not survive the encounter with the homeowner.

Don't Bring a Baseball Bat to a Gunfight

Also, don't break into homes that are not yours. Homeowner fatally shoots armed intruder in Kanawha County; investigation underway

And neighbors were shocked.

Police said the homeowner was working on his property, which is not his primary residence when he was met with an intruder on the porch who was armed with a baseball bat and a knife. Police said the struggle moved from the porch down into the yard, where the homeowner pulled a gun and shot the other man.

Kanawha County, West Virginia is about 170 miles east of Lexington, Kentucky, though it will be closer to 200 miles by car.

As for the neighbor in question...

"It is very scary," said Mindy Nichols who [lives] near where the shooting happened. "You're out here in the country. People are kind and then this happens. I don't know. It just kind of startles you."

You are not protected by your zip code.

Self-defense is a human right, and I'm willing to bet that the DA in a rural county in West Virginia believes in self-defense as your legal right, but I guess we will see.

This Judge Hates Self-Defense More than the DA

This is a case of Justice Not Served if ever I read about one. Murder charge against Randolph County man dismissed

The DA tried to dismiss the case, as being justifiable self-defense. The judge wasn't having it.

There was an argument and the guy who got shot was driving a side-by-side UTV at the defendant who was standing on his own driveway, clearly trying to run him over.

The circuit court sealed the motion to dismiss on May 31 and later denied it at a hearing. Cross later petitioned for a Writ of Prohibition, claiming “the circuit court abused its legitimate powers by denying the State’s motion to dismiss the indictment.”

A decision filed by the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals on Tuesday, Nov 12 determined that the circuit court could not enforce the denial of the state’s motion to dismiss, effectively dismissing the murder and firearm charges against Cross.

Randolph County, West Virginia, is about 140 miles west of Washington, D.C., or about 200 miles east of Cincinnati. Though it will be a longer drive.

They don't say so, but I suspect that there was something more going on. Why would a judge not dismiss a case that the DA had no intention of trying, because it was clearly self-defense. Did the judge know the parties involved, or does he just hate guns and gun owners? We probably won't ever know.

At least the correct decision was reached in the end. Self-defense is a human-right.

Woman Shoots Boyfriend in Self-Defense

He was beating her fairly badly. 19-Year-Old Woman Shoots 31-Year-Old Boyfriend in Self-Defense After Violent Assault in Charleston, WV - USA Carry

The Charleston Police Department reported that the couple became involved in a heated argument around 1 a.m. after Perkins accused his girlfriend of stealing. The situation quickly escalated when Perkins began physically assaulting her, allegedly stomping on her ribcage and head, and punching her in the arms and lips.

He threatened her with a firearm. When he began fighting with another person present, she grabbed the gun and shot him. He did not survive.

The case is currently under review by the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges will be filed. As of now, no charges have been brought against the woman.

A Step in the Right Direction - WVU to Offer Self-Defense Training

Not armed self defense, but self-defense training. WVU to offer self-defense training to students, faculty and staff

The West Virginia University Police Department is hoping to provide a little extra confidence for those lacking—or hoping to refine—their self-defense skills.

Not even any mention of pepper spray, let alone fast-moving lead. But at least they admit that you cannot rely on the state - or in this case campus police - to be everywhere all the time. You are responsible for your own safety.

Participants will learn about the skills needed to recognize a threat, escape an attack and get to a safe place to call for help. Specifically, the training will go over striking techniques, takedowns and escape holds and will provide information on developing situational awareness.

That runs counter to everything these students have been told their whole lives. Maybe it is a sign that reality is starting to impinge on the fallacy that "The world is a safe place" that these kids have been taught.

Now, West Virginia University is not in a Blue City. It is about a 70 mile drive south of Pittsburgh, PA, or about 200 mile drive west of Washington, D.C. Still, it is a university, and they are admitting that the government can't take care of you. It is important to recognize a win, no matter how small. And granted, this is a small victory.

How Old Do You Need to Be to Defend Yourself?

The Left would say that a 15-year-old should not have access to a firearm. West Virginia man shot by 15-year-old son after firing weapon at wife - WHEC

A 15-year-old boy shot and killed his father in self-defense after the man fired a shotgun at the boy’s mother and then pointed the weapon at him, West Virginia State Police said Thursday.

Click thru for the details.

Self defense is your right, even if you are only 15 years old.

And what should he have done? Let himself be killed? If you could magically make all the firearms disappear, then he could only be beaten to death, with no way to defend himself. Would that be better?

West Virginia Eliminates a Class of Gun-free Zones

Leftists are hardest hit. West Virginia governor signs campus carry gun bill.

I'm not sure why the people clutching their pearls think that allowing law-abiding gun-owners to be armed will encourage criminals. Criminals were never going to abide by your "no guns allowed" signs. They are criminals.

West Virginia's governor signed a bill Wednesday allowing people with concealed carry permits to take firearms onto public college and university campuses.

As for the Left...

The presidents of West Virginia’s largest institutions of higher learning urged lawmakers to reconsider as the bill moved through the Legislature. They said decisions about whether or not to allow guns on campus should be left to the institutions, and voiced concerns about students struggling with mental health challenges.

Because those mentally challenged individuals are also going to abide by your rules, and if they do "break down" and go crazy, then it is best (for who, they never say) if there no guns in the hands of good guys to stop the madman. Or something.

The bill bans the open carry of a firearm on a college or university campus and allows institutions of higher learning to implement exceptions. It also prohibits people from taking guns into areas with a capacity of more than 1,000 spectators — stadiums for football games, for example — or to on-campus daycare centers.

There is more, such as details about the regulation - not prohibition - of firearms in residence halls. Click thru for the details.

For Some Reason, The US Media Ignored This Story

The Mass-shooting that didn't happen. Hero woman shoots gunman Dennis Butler dead after he opens fire with AR-15 rifle at party | The Sun. Yes, I know it is 2 weeks old, but it is an important story.

Dennis Butler, 37, showed up to a birthday party in Charleston, West Virginia and opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle, according to officials.

A woman at the event was carrying a weapon of her own, which she had a permit for.

I wonder why the media ignored this woman and this story. No, I don't really wonder. How does this advance the gun-haters' narrative?

The short answer is, of course, that it doesn't. If the American population got the idea that good guys with guns could stop bad guys with guns, where would that narrative be?

Neighbors Were Shocked

They always are. Neighbors shocked after homeowner shoots naked intruder

Or how would you respond to a naked man trying to break into your home at 2AM?

West Virginia State Police say a man who had stripped down to nothing tried to break down someone’s door Monday morning.

The man came face-to-face with the homeowner who was armed with a gun and ready to defend his house.

A naked intruder at 2 AM says "drugs" to me. Which just means he is that much more dangerous.

Roberts picked the wrong house along Bulger Road in Alkol. Troopers said the homeowner, who’s in his 60s, grabbed his gun and opened fire, hitting the naked suspect in the shoulder as he tried to break down the door.

And the neighbors are shocked to discover that they are not protected by their zip code.

Neighbors like Bruce Tulley are still stunned.

“Yeah, I’m shocked. I don’t know why he would have been at his door pounding on his door at 2 a.m.,” Tulley said. [SNIP]

“I was a little shocked that it happened. Those are things that don’t happen,” Tulley said.

If you can read this post, then you live in The Real World™ where crime can, and all too often does, happen. You do not live is some magical place where crime does not happen. You should plan accordingly.

The guy who got shot was taken to a local hospital. The homeowner is not facing charges. The investigation continues.

Self-defense is a human-right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
