The TL;DR version is as follows.
The law adds arson, burglary, robbery, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
This means you can shoot someone to stop those crimes, or at least that is how I read it, though I am no lawyer.
The article is mostly a list of insults traded back and forth from politicians who like the law, and those who don't.
I find this kind of thing interesting.
One airlifted to hospital after shooting incident in Winfield, TN
[Scott County Sheriff’s Office] said that [Samantha] Hall reportedly entered a woman’s property in the Pine Hill area of Winford, assaulted a woman, then tried to force her way into the woman’s home.
The homeowner was armed, and she fired. Hall was injured, and had to taken to a trauma center in Knoxville.
Winfield, Tennessee, is about 45 miles northwest of Knoxville. The drive will be longer. It is on the state line with Kentucky.
Hall was treated, and then taken into custody. She will face charges that include aggravated assault, and aggravated burglary.
Self-defense is a human right, and Tennessee has not morphed into Massachusetts.

Clarksville Police detectives have learned the woman had been awakened by her dogs barking and believed someone was trying to break into her home. She heard someone at the front door and thought it was her husband trying to get inside. After unlocking and opening the door, an unknown man entered the townhouse, and a struggle began. The woman, who was armed, fired her weapon.
The guy who got shot was airlifted to Nashville in serious condition.
Clarksville, Tennessee is about a 45 mile drive northwest of Nashville.
You can call through the door. You can install a peephole. You can install a doorbell camera. You don't need to open the door without some idea of who is on the other side.

I am sick to death of Republicans who are really Progressives in hiding. He doesn't think the courts should involve themselves in issues of the Constitution.
Despite Governor Lee’s rhetoric positioning himself as a conservative, the state’s latest brief would be right at home among the attorneys general of New Jersey, New York, and California for its nonchalant treatment of civil liberties and constitutional rights.

A [Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency] wildlife officer investigated and determined no violations had occurred.

My previous stance of using at least buckshot stands and now I want to add one that I should have mentioned before.
Anything worth shooting once is worth shooting twice. Keep shooting till the threat ceases.

And yes, if you have a semi rifle, one of them Scary Black Rifles, the racking part takes care of itself and that is my weapon of choice for home defense. But we need to be proficient when we do not have access to our weapon of choice and the only thing available is a pump shotgun or even a coach gun.

A Hendersonville business owner and his wife survived a gun battle with an armed man inside the couple’s collectible shop early Wednesday morning. As for the suspect, he’s facing multiple charges — including attempted homicide — following his release from the hospital.
First he broke the door to the business. As at most retail businesses, the door was glass. When he realized the owners were inside he left to retrieve a gun. He was back a few moments later, and he was armed.
Then, just moments later, Bryan can be seen coming back to the door, pulling what law enforcement described as a 9mm from his backpack, ducking back through the broken glass into the store, and rushing toward the back of the shop.
“He’s looking to do harm at that point,” [HPD Assistant Chief Scott] Ryan stated.
By this point, the co-owner of The Cache, Roger McCandless, was ready and armed with a shotgun loaded with birdshot.
Birdshot injured and scared him, but it did not end the threat. While he retreated from the store, he opened fire with his 9mm pistol. Birdshot is not what you want to use for self-defense.

I am not a shotgun expert by any means of the imagination, but I heed the advice of more knowledgeable people: Birdshot is for birds, small rodents and training. Bipedal predators (AKA Dangerous criminals) require at a minimum buckshot, preferably in repeated pairs.

Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the counter, pretending to make a purchase and then pulling a gun.

It didn't end there.
The shooter leaves the frame only to return to shoot Prince again, while he's on the ground.
He didn't survive.
He wasn't shot because he was a threat; his being shot while on the ground proves that. He wasn't shot because he was resisting; he wasn't resisting. He was shot because this bad guy didn't want a witness around.
Now having a gun for his own protection may not have saved this guy. There are no guarantees in this life. The Left, however, just loves to go on with the chorus of, "Just give them what they want, and you will be safe." (The Left never wants to discuss rape in that light, for some reason.) Even if he was armed, he may not have had an opportunity to respond. A barrier of bullet-resistant polycarbonate may have saved him, but that was clearly not present.
The clerk who got shot leaves behind a wife and child. Like I said, a tragedy.
They did catch the guy who, allegedly, did the shooting. He is charged with homicide, and more charges are expected.
The disregard for human life that is on display is astounding. Not shocking, really, since I read too many stories like this, but the level of ruthlessness and callous indifference toward someone's life, to execute them like this, I find more than a little disturbing.
I miss living in a civilized society.

Three guys decide to invade a home. At least one of them was armed, it isn't clear from the story.
Dyersburg Police Chief Thomas Langford said the initial investigation reveals [Christopher] Terry was shot by the resident who was defending himself. Terry did not survive his injuries.
Dyersburg, Tennessee is 79 miles northeast of Memphis.
Jeremiah Terry, 18, of Dyersburg, and Raymon V. Patton, 20, of Dyersburg, were arrested Wednesday in connection with the home invasion.
The charges include aggravated robbery, attempted second-degree murder, and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Professional Journalists keep calling adults of legal age, teenagers. This is probably not, strictly speaking, a lie in this instance, but it is a bit misleading.
Three legal, adult males, aged 18, 19, and 20, decided that they were going to break into an occupied house. Things didn't go the way they planned.
When officers arrived, they learned during the initial investigation that Christopher Terry, 19, had been shot during a home invasion.
Officials say Terry was one of three suspects in the home invasion and was shot by the homeowner, who was defending himself.
Dyersburg, Tennessee is about a 75 mile drive northeast of Memphis.
Christopher Terry died from his wounds. The other two were arrested. Jeremiah Terry, 18, and Raymon V. Patton, 20, face several charges including attempted second-degree murder. I guess that felony murder is not an option in Tennessee.

“The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call, indicating that a male subject had been shot in her residence,” said Stephen Sutton, public information officer for CCSD.
The preliminary investigation revealed the male subject was armed with a knife and a gun. Allegedly, he assaulted the female subject and she shot him.
And this is how I wish more domestic violence situations would end, with the bad guy shot.
Crockett County, Tennessee is about an 80 mile drive northeast of Memphis.
The investigation is still going on, and Crockett County has called on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for assistance. An autopsy has been ordered, so it will likely be some time before the dust settles on this case.
But we can say that self-defense is a human right.
Headlines never tell the whole story. Store manager shoots suspect during shoplifting attempt | News | Fox13 Memphis. In some cases I think they craft the headline to hide the facts.
A crew was trying to leave a store with groceries that they did not pay for.
Court documents allege that prior to the shooting, the manager spotted three people — including two teens — rolling carts of food worth about $200 out of the grocery store and followed them into the parking lot to try and stop them. That was when the driver of a getaway van got out and threatened to kill the manager, fired a gun shot in the air and then pointed it at the manager.
At that point the manager returned fire, hitting the getaway driver.
Four people were eventually arrested. The guy who got shot, a 22-year-old, and two 17-year-olds. The guy who got shot, was still in the hospital, a few days after the incident, the 22 year old was in the county lockup. Information on "the two teens" was withheld.
So no, the store manager didn't just shoot a shoplifter. Could it be that a Professional Journalist™ doesn't like the idea of armed self-defense? The store manager defended himself in the face of a reasonable threat of death or grave bodily injury. If someone points a gun at you, that is a reasonable threat.
Self-defense is a human right, and there is no mention of charging the store manager with anything, because Memphis is not New York City.
Did he assume he was the only one armed in the "confrontation?" 19-year-old charged in shooting at Clarksville Walmart
Clarksville Police said 19-year-old Labron Gibson is being charged with four counts of aggravated assault after he was determined to be the “primary aggressor” in an incident that led to a shooting at the Walmart on Fort Campbell Boulevard.
During an argument with another man, Gibson reportedly showed a firearm. Police said the other man then “acted in defense of his family.”
Gibson was shot multiple times in the incident, but his wounds have been determined to be non-life-threatening.
Once he gets out of the hospital, he will be moved to the county lockup.

While West Virginia takes real steps to allow self-defense, Tennessee opts for the insane option. Tennessee law expands college students’ self-defense options on campus
A new law in Tennessee is stopping colleges, universities and other schools from banning non-lethal weapons, such as pepper spray or stun guns.
In April, Gov. Lee signed the Laken Riley Act of 2024. Under the act, students and staff can now carry non-lethal weapons on campuses for self-defense. Tennessee Senator Richard Briggs, who represents Knox County, says it’s a common-sense move.
There is nothing wrong with carrying pepper spray. I keep a canister of pepper spray attached to my car keys, and it is in my hand as I walk to and from my car. As Active Self Protection notes, sometimes you need options.
But you should not assume that pepper spray or a stun gun are going to always solve your self-defense issues.
Still, I guess you have to concede that it is a step in the right direction.
Creating great-big defenseless-victim zones does NOT deter crime. Walk into any mall in America (there are still a few) and over near the security office there will be a sign that basically says "No Crime Allowed on These Premises." Do you think that sign has any impact? Does it stop pick pockets or shoplifters in their tracks?
Someone needs to sue to say that you can't keep me from exercising my constitutional rights because you're afraid of your shadow.

The suspect shot himself in the legs or feet with his own gun, according to police. The shooting happened in the home’s backyard.
Cops arrived and took him to a local hospital for treatment. No word on what charges he will face.
Not a Darwin Award, but he was sure trying. I guess we have to tally this as Bad Guys -1. You just know that he was convinced having a gun made him dangerous. In a way, he was right. This is an "Own Goal" if ever I read about one.

An 18-year-old pizza delivery guy parked in the wrong driveway. That is not a valid reason for shooting someone.
Arriving officers located the shooting suspect who told them he and his wife saw a truck parked in their driveway on the Ring camera and thought someone was breaking into his truck, police wrote in the complaint.
Even if someone was breaking into your truck, that does NOT give you the right to just open fire. Your property is not a free fire zone. Don't be stupid.
The irate homeowner/truck enthusiast is now facing felony aggravated assault charges. He will be convicted, spend time in prison, and lose his 2nd Amendment rights. Sadly, as far as I know, felony stupidity is not a crime in Tennessee.

Three armed bad guys broke into a home in Harrison, Tennessee. Harrison is about 12 miles, or a 20 minute drive, northeast of Chattanooga. They met an armed homeowner.
Gunfire was exchanged between the homeowner and suspects.
HCSO says one of the suspects was shot during the exchange and died at the scene.
Two other suspects jumped through a window to escape and fled the scene, according to HCSO.
Translation: When confronted with force, they ran like rabbits.
Despite the search of the area by officers and a K-9 patrol, the two got away. Not surprising since they undoubtedly had a car nearby.
This was the second time in two days that the house had been broken into.
As for the neighbors, they are shocked to discover that they live in The Real World™ where crime can, and often does, happen.
Neighbors on this street told us Tuesday morning they have always considered this a safe neighborhood and “still can’t believe it happened not once, but twice in a row.”
I dont' know why people are convinced that they are protected by their zip code. They are not.
With luck, they will be able to track these two down somehow, but the important thing is that the homeowner was safe.

Nutbush is a rural community in Haywood County, Tennessee, about 50 miles northeast of Memphis.
A Nutbush man scared off a would-be burglar with a warning shot early Thursday morning.
While Steve Huntley, 70, was fast asleep, an intruder made his way to the back door of his Nutbush home in an effort to get inside.
“And he was ‘bump, bump, bump,’ that’s what got my dogs stirred up,” Huntley said.
You can click thru for the details including the rise in crime in the area in which Mr. Huntley lives. He is prepared because his son died in a shooting a few years back, and he is determined to protect the rest of his family.
“He picked the wrong place to try and break into,” he said. “Because my motto is ‘if you come in here, you are going to meet your maker.'”
