Kyoto anime studio fire: Japanese man sentenced to death for arson attack that killed 36

Kyoto Animation, better known as KyoAni, is an anime studio that has had some success. The guy convicted of the arson attack had been convinced that KyoAni had stolen some of his ideas, and sought revenge.

Shinji Aoba, now 45, broke into the firm’s building in Kyoto, doused the entrance area with petrol and set it alight. He then shouted “drop dead”, according to accounts by survivors of Japan’s deadliest crime in decades. Many of the victims were young people.

Yes Japan still has the death penalty. It is usually reserved for people found guilty of multiple murders, while they aren't Texas, or Oklahoma, they do occasionally execute someone.

Japan carried out its last execution, by hanging, in 2022. As of December, 107 people were on death row.

The article notes that the majority of the Japanese population supports capital punishment, but they have to get in a dig about the EU and "human rights" organizations being against it.

Japanese over-65s have done their best to reduce Japan’s 612-million-dose stockpile of mRNA jabs, with third, fourth and fifth jab rates of 91%, 82.5%, and 56%, respectively. But unfortunately, Japan has started 2023 by reporting its highest ever daily Covid death tolls. During the booster era starting in early 2022, each wave has been noticeably higher than the last.

What could possibly explain this? Let’s ask Takaji Wakita, Chairman of Japan’s Covid Response Advisory Board: “The cause of the rise in Covid deaths is hard to explain.”

Gee. Let me think. What could explain a sudden rash of deaths from cardiac arrest?

So let’s recap what the experts have told us. The cause of increased Covid deaths? “Dunno.” Should the Government keep showering medical institutions and pharma companies with money? “Absolutely!”

Homemade Gun Used to Kill Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe

The improvised zip gun built and used by 41 year old army veteran Tetsuya Yamagami to assassinate former the former Japanese Prime Minister appears to be muzzle-loaded and electronically initiated. It appears to consist of two threaded gas pipes with end caps drilled to enable insertion of a wire which may be connected to a broken bulb or improvised electric match filled with black powder or match-head shavings to initiate a main propellant charge.

A commentor at Impro Guns notes that the security detail assigned to Abe didn't seem to be on top of things.

The only difference between it and a medieval handgonne is the construction material and the fact that it's fired by electronic ignition, probably a battery shorting across some steel wool, rather than a burning fuse.

It’s not as if would-be assassins are so numerous that we must be eternally vigilant, but as the shooting of Shinzo Abe illustrates, it is difficult to prevent a truly determined killer: Where there’s a will, there’s a way. You outlaw gun ownership, and some murderous kook will manufacture a homemade weapon.

As homemade weapons go, this one is fairly simple.

China Threatens to Nuke Japan

Chinese officials have reposted a video calling on Japan to be relentlessly nuked if it intervenes militarily in Taiwan.

The footage - originally created by a military comment channel on Xigua, China's equivalent of YouTube - calls for Japan to be bombed into submission if it sends 'even one troop' into Taiwan.
