Because knowing right from wrong in your 30s is a bridge too far. It is just an unreasonable expectation in 2021. Pretty Ricky member Baby Blue sentenced in COVID relief scam | Miami Herald
Diamond "Baby Blue" Smith, a rapper from Miami, perpetrated a scheme to defraud the federal .gov through bogus Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to the tune of $24 million.
That was his "mistake."
The “Love and Hip Hop: Miami” star is alleged to have received massive PPP loans for his two companies, Throwbackjersey.com LLC, and Blue Star Records LLC, using falsified documents.
Aside from this he was shot at a bowling alley in April, and spent time in an ICU. Now he's been sentenced to 20 months in prison, and about $2.2 million in restitution and forfeiture.
He is also releasing a song entitled "Scapegoat" because nothing is really his fault.
Seems like it ought to be $24 million in restitution. And follow up with a civil fraud litigation and add punitive awards.
ReplyDeleteI thought that as well, but reporting isn't what it used to be. I am assuming that they recovered some of the funds, and the restitution is for stuff that they couldn't confiscate. Like the cars, houses, whatever.
DeleteI know you shouldn't assume this kind of thing, but then you have to assume that the "professional journalist" included all of the relevant information in the story. And I know they can't do that.
