A Philadelphia man who shot and killed a home invader who was pretending to be a police officer had a valid permit to carry and will not face any charges, officials announced Tuesday.
Since the shooting took place on Sunday, it is quite amazing that this determination was made so quickly.
The article is in German, but Google translate does an exceptionally good job with German.
The first paragraph is eye opening.
The international manufacturers have stopped producing paper in their Russian factories. As a result, there is a serious shortage, which in turn has pushed up the price for a pack of toilet paper brand "Svetocopy" from 280 to 2290 rubles - the equivalent of 25.80 euros.
That is almost $28 for a pack of toilet paper - which I'm assuming is either 4 or 6 rolls. That is expensive.
Unfortunately, like so much today, most of the article is behind a paywall. Such is life in 2022.
Empty shelves and hardship will not get Putin to stop being an empire builder.
The jokes in here are hilarious. Flight attendants sneezing immediately in disregard of public health, the Jussie Smollett "MAGA country" reference, and the crying child who is super concerned about politics.
Everything necessary to make it an absolutely hilarious joke.
Unless you work for The New York Times, that is.
You can find the NYT's query at this link, from Victoria Kim, together with the answer basically telling her she needs to grow a sense of humor.
Is it trolling if you don't expect anyone to take you seriously?
CNN+, the streaming service that was hyped as one of the most significant developments in the history of CNN, will shut down on April 30, just one month after it launched.
According to police, the homeowner who shot the victim says the victim was an intruder. Police have reason to believe the homeowner and victim know each other.
And this is also the distraction that the Left loves. "You are more likely to shoot someone you know." Well, there's a damn good reason for that.
You are more likely to be victimized by someone you know. An ex-boyfriend, or ex-husband, the creepy guy from the coffee shop, or the coworker-turned-stalker. Whatever. Sure, strong-arm robbery, carjacking and a few things like that are the "stranger-danger" type of crime. For most things, it will be people you know.
There is very little info at this point, and the investigation continues. The guy who got shot was taken to a local hospital.
That he will be paid $1.8 million over 7 years is bad enough. What he did should be a crime. But it isn't, because Leftists love education. Or something.
Under Abdul-Mutakabbir, Maspeth HS created fake classes, awarded credits to failing students, and fixed grades to push kids out the door, the Special Commissioner of Investigation for city schools found, confirming exposès by The Post.
Instead of trying to terminate Abdul-Mutakabbir, as city investigators recommended, the DOE settled the charges on Jan. 25 by fining him $12,000 – and barring him from working as a principal.
Why would he be fired for something like this? They agree with everything he did, except the part where he got caught.
If you give kids "plant based options" how many do you they will consume? Of course if you don't give them a choice... Which is what the Left is all about. Free speech? They want censorship. Chocalate milk? They want soy or some other BS.
Mayor Eric Adams is backing off his proposed ban on chocolate milk at least for now — and instead urging Congress to pass a law allowing vegetarian alternatives in select New York City schools, according to a letter obtained by The Post.
Freedom? Just shut up and do what we tell you to do!
The Daley Gator has apparently been canceled by WordPress.com. So, in the interim, until he lands at a final destination, the link above is where you can find him. It is still listed in the sidebar as "The Daley Gator" because in the long run that is what I think he will keep, and also, I need to keep my sanity.
I've also resorted the sidebar to no longer put all of the blogs starting with "The" under the letter T. Something I've been meaning to do. (If you let WordPress do your sorting, "The" goes under T, and when I moved I just copied stuff wholesale. But I never liked it.)
So update your links, and give him some traffic at the new site. And stay tuned. Because I have the feeling that WordPress is about to embark on a "Let's cancel those damn conservatives" wave of wokeness.

It should read something like, "Victim Defends Himself from Armed Intruders."
A 25-year-old man was approached by two men, police said. The armed men forced the victim into his home, demanded money, then attempted to zip tie him and threatened to kill him, police said.
When the resident realized the two men were not police officers, he pulled out his own gun and shot one of the suspects, police said. The victim has a license to carry the firearm
Cops took the victim and his girlfriend in for questioning, but released them a short time later.
Even in Philadelphia, self-defense is a human-right. Though it remains to be seen whether or not it is a legal right.
Kim Foxx never does anything on accident. If the Cook County state’s attorney isn’t making life unbearable for law-abiding residents, finagling special deals for B-list celebrities or arbitrarily changing the law to suit her whim, Foxx is otherwise placing her thumb on the scales of justice.
In the latest incident which reveals how her legal compass is deeply misguided, the ever-scheming Foxx attempted to irreparably harm any legitimate defense of the actions of two Chicago police officers who became embroiled in fatal shootings in 2021.
The two shootings were of Anthony Alvarez and Adam Toledo. Both were armed, though Toledo threw his gun away less than one second before he was shot. I'm not sure if these cases received national attention, though I would not be surprised if they did.
Not content to just say, "We are not going to bring charges against either officer," she goes out of her way to make their lives miserable.
Kim Foxx’s commentary following her office declining to prosecute either Officer Stillman or Officer Solano was, at the very least, superfluous. At most, it was an attempt to externally influence disciplinary proceedings both Stillman and Solano have yet to endure.
Disgusting behavior from the Criminal Justice System.
There is a recap of the two shootings at the article linked above, together with the actions of the media, and politicians, following the shootings. Click thru for the details.
Glen Campbell's birthday is this Friday. Since most people underestimate the quality of his guitar playing, I thought we could look at it a bit. And I selected something that is NOT country, so you won't be put off. If you hate county.
While most people, if you're old enough, remember the songs Campbell recorded that crossed over from the Country charts to the Billboard 100, such as "Wichita Lineman" and "Gentle on My Mind." He did a lot of studio work. He played on a lot (most?) of the early Beach Boys albums, and toured some with them. He played on at least one Frank Sinatra album, and a whole lot more.
I think today's song is a good representation of what Campbell could do with a guitar. This song was originally by Bill Withers, and it is probably my favorite song from Bill Withers. Campbell's version seems like soft-jazz to me.
This is "Ain't No Sunshine" by Glen Campbell, an instrumental recorded live in 1975 in London. It shows why a lot of people considered him to be one of the greatest guitar players of his generation, or the late 20th Century generally.
Glen Campbell died in 2017 after a long decline due to Alzheimer's disease.
This is an interview with Alice Cooper by a local news station upon the news of Glen Campbell's passing. The audio is not great, but the interview is great. Alice Cooper and Glen Campbell were apparently close friends and played golf about once or twice a week in Arizona. That interview is 11 minutes and change.
If you're in the mood for interviews, this is an interview that Glen Campbell did with Craig Kilborn in 2000, when Mr. Kilborn was hosting The Late Late Show. The first 8 and a half minutes consists of the two talking about the guitar and Campbell's versitility, and some of the albums he worked on and the groups he played with. The last 4 or 5 minutes is "Wichita Lineman," though it is not the best version of that song.
As I reported yesterday, Rasmus Paludan’s planned burning of a Koran in the Swedish city of Linköping inspired an anticipatory riot by the culture-enrichers of that city. The ferocity of the rioters induced the police to withdraw from the location of the event, and the notorious Koran-burner was unable to make an appearance.

The losses that the Russian Army has suffered have been extreme, not just by the standards of post-Cold War warfare, but by all 19th and 20th century standards. Indeed the Russian war experience so far is perhaps more reminiscent of the mud and gore of the Battle of the Somme
Hello from the forests of Eastern Endor - well, Europe ...
This is Paweł from Ewok Report, and another instalment of Chronicles of the Russo-Ukrainian War of 2022.
I was just about to short write the episode: nothing new, both forces still preparing for the major Donbas battle ...
Then suddenly 2 big news occurred almost at once:
“Major mistakes made throughout the years that destroyed the trust that the police commissioner is talking about — we have to rebuild that trust,” [NYC Mayor] Adams said. “But we can’t rebuild that trust by allowing those who are dangerous and that have — they have a repeated history of violence to continue to be on our streets.”
On Thursday night, Fox News anchor Bret Baier filed a short item on wealthy gay California Democrat mega-donor Ed Buck being sentenced to 30 years in prison for the methamphetamine overdose deaths of two black men. ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS broadcasts haven't touched it. Buck had donated $500,000 to mostly Democratic causes since 2000.
These attorneys have jurisdiction over Chicago, Illinois.
When Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx feels pressure about her decision not to pursue felony charges for retail thefts of under $1,000 — even though the legal threshold for the charge is $300 — she pushes back. [SNIP]
So, why are two people whom police allegedly caught with over $2,300 worth of stolen perfume following a shoplifting raid at a South Loop store only charged with misdemeanors? Police reports say Chicago cops tried to get the duo charged with felonies, but Foxx’s office refused.
The were charged with misdemeanor theft of less than $500, and were released.
Bets on whether they go on to be honest citizens?
Justice? The State's Attorney office in Chicago seems bent on destroying the rule of law.
An "underage drinking party." There should be a law! Oh, wait... There were 200 people at that party.
Will AirBnB ever be held accountable for the insanity they cause? Probably not.
The gunfire unfolded at an AirBnB property being rented on Madison Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday. Authorities estimate as many as 200 people were at the house.
About 50 rounds were fired inside the home forcing partygoers to jump out of windows and suffer broken bones and lacerations.
Another day, another NFL player in trouble with the law.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph is a person of interest in a murder investigation related to a drive-by shooting that took place outside of a bar in Dallas last month.
Joseph’s attorney Barry Sorrels said his client was a passenger inside the vehicle that fired into the group of men, however the NFL player did not shoot the gun.
There are a couple of places keeping track of NFL arrests. One is USA Today: NFL player arrests database: Records since 2000, and another is NFLArrest.com. They each hold their appeal. The top page of NFLArrest.com has the overall breakdown by team, by type-of-crime, from DUI to Murder/Manslaughter.
But back to the story at hand.
After the surveillance video was released by the Dallas Police Department, people recognized Kelvin Joseph’s gaudy necklace (screenshot below) with the letters “YKDV.”
Distinctive jewelry and tattoos: doing the cops job for them. Will he will have to "rat out his friends" or face obstruction charges? Or other charges? Or will he just get to walk away?
As for the rules... Sports stars almost always get a pass in high school. And in college too. (My college didn't go in much for organized sports.)
Battle Beast is a Power Metal band that I really like, and since Power Metal includes none of the harsh vocals (none of that Death Metal, Death Growl that offends people so much) I think you might like it too.
For the most part, European Metal, and in particular Power Metal, would have been at home on a 1970s Rock & Roll radio station. Musicians that can perform live, playing real instruments without an abundance of AutoTune or drum machines, etc. And a few American bands like Kamelot or Tremonti fit that bill as well.
Here's a link to the lyrics. I'm not sure you will need them, but it is good to be complete.
As for the Death Metal, Death Growl, my take is that most people only want to listen to the 200 or so songs that were popular when they were in high school. And they certainly won't listen to any genre of music that wasn't popular at that time. It is the 21st Century version of, "These damn kids and their Rock & Roll music! Get off my lawn!"
While I was searching around for info on the album, I tripped over the fact that "Circus of Doom" was a story arc from Doctor Who. Not having watched the Doctor Who show in decades, I can't offer any insight into the story.
Avery Cormie was home with her 12-year-old sister when Joseph Ridge broke in. She grabbed a couple of steak knives and told him to "get out of my house!"
As he was leaving she recorded his truck, so she was able to provide the license plate number to police. He was arrested.
Ridge, described by police as a 'career criminal', was out on bail at the time of the alleged break-in and was apprehended shortly after and charged with aggravated breaking and entering during the day, trespassing and disorderly conduct, police said.
They don't say what he was out on bail for, and I'm not interested enough to go search. It is enough to know that a "career criminal" was granted bail.
The animating idea of this blog is to speak (primarily) to those who are neither totally bought into the idea of guns nor totally opposed to it. That is, to the gun curious.
I recently had the opportunity to chat with just such a person. Mark McNease is a politically liberal gay man living in rural NJ. Mark found me because he is a member of the Liberal Gun Club (LGC), which syndicates this blog. He is a member of the LGC even though he is not a gun owner. Mark is part of roughly 1/3 of the population who don’t currently own guns but don’t rule them out. He is gun curious.
The link to the actual podcast is at Gun Curious. I found the conversation quite interesting. Though it mostly covered David Yamane's journey into gun culture, he host, Mark McNease, did get some of his own story in the conversation.
I enjoyed it, and I think you might as well. The podcast episode clocks in at just over 34 minutes.
The mission of The Liberal Gun Club is to provide a pro-Second Amendment voice for left-of-center gun owners in the national conversations on firearms.
In order to achieve our mission, we encourage new participants in the shooting sports and provide firearms safety and shooting instruction programs; as well as providing a forum for civil discourse on these issues.
