An armed man got more than he bargained for in Bucktown on Saturday when the 61-year-old woman he tried to carjack fought back by jamming her fingers into his eyes and scratching his face, police said.
He fled that attempt, but then he some buddies apparently carjacked someone else a short time later. They were using a Jeep with stolen plates as their primary vehicle.
And carjackings are out-of-control in Chicago, and elsewhere, but I'm writing about Chicago.
Carjackings rose about 135% last year to 1,415 and continue at a high pace this year, police statistics show. CPD recorded 218 carjackings in January 2021 — a staggering spike from the 77 reported during the same time last year.
And they are concerned about putting the 12 and 13 year olds into "the system," even though it seems that they are committing violent felonies. So I guess that means catch-and-release, and the law-abiding citizens are on their own.
Though stupid criminals, trying to elude police, you can literally see almost every day. I see it as often as I want to, anyway.
So The Other McCain, has gotten me in the habit of watching police chases. You generally think, "What the F- were they thinking?" But then if they were smart they wouldn't be a on YouTube video of a police chase. There are often crashes, sometimes PIT maneuvers, but this is a new one on me.
Police Chases Florida Man With Kids In the Vehicle - Pasco Sheriff's Office Nov. 17-2020 is a video of a car chase that ends with the bad-guy driving into a lake in a Florida trailer park. And there is some video shot by a resident of the trailer park; the commentary from that section of the video is priceless. And yes, he drove into a lake with 2 kids in the car. The only thing missing was an alligator.
Are we suprised that it is Florida Man?
Pasco County is just north of Tampa and Clearwater, Florida.
And of course the idiot who tried to run with two kids in the car is known to police. Video: Florida chase ends with car in pond, 2 children rescued.
The driver, identified as Jonathan Mark DeLoach, 30, is a known drug dealer and had several warrants out for his arrest, according to the affidavit.
DeLoach was arrested on several charges, including child abuse, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a suspended licens (habitual offender), fleeing to elude and reckless driving.
Sadly, felony stupidity is not something the Florida authorities can charge him with. Though one of residents of the trailer park can be heard saying he would like to punch that guy in the face for endangering kids.
The kids were cold and traumatized, but otherwise unhurt.

Why you would want to honor pirates is beyond me. They were not romantic figures, and their antics are not a funny summer blockbuster from Disney. They were (and are) brutal criminals. And then there is the history.
Anne Bonny and Mary Read were pirates, but they were not lesbians. They were both sleeping with Calico Jack (John Rackham.)
Plans for a statue of two real-life female Pirates Of The Caribbean have caused outrage in a seaside community over claims they are 'totally inappropriate' and would 'glamorise' crime.
But apparently their flaunting of "gender roles" trumps the number of people they killed.
And the Daily Mail can't be bothered to get the rest of the history right either.

Mary Read died in prison of a fever while pregnant. Anne Bonny, also pregnant when Rackham's crew was captured, was eventually released. While we don't know what happened to her, we do know she wasn't executed as the rest of Rackham's crew was. But history is boring, and the details are unimportant, less important than the violence they perpetrated around The Caribbean. And besides, all that is nothing compared to flaunting gender roles. Or something.

They thought robbing a convenience store was a good idea. Man shot dead after attempting to rob Littleton store; other suspect at large.
Two miscreants attempted to rob the store Saturday afternoon.
One of the convenience store owners, acting as clerk, exchanged gunfire with the attempted robbery suspects and received a gunshot wound himself before being released from the hospital. The owner shot at least one of the suspects, both male, and one of them died at the scene.
As of Sunday, the dead-guy had not been identified. Once that is done, the police will have a better idea who the other guy might be.

Catch and release until someone dies. At least in this case it wasn't an innocent bystander.
"Teflon" had a criminal record dating back to when he was 14. He was 30 when he died. He did spend a lot of that time in prison.
You might think that a lifelong felon who had twice been the subject of SWAT interventions might have gotten a lengthy prison sentence. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, “Teflon” was a known gang member, whose face was covered with tattoos. Despite his felonious history, Carrasco was released from prison in Colorado in January 2019.
His obituary, which came 13 months later, inclued the word "unexpectedly" to describe his departure from this world. He was shot three times by a county deputy who saw that he was armed. Hardly unpredictable.

This could easily have ended with Teflon preemptively shooting the officer and trying to get away. Catch and release doesn't work for anyone.

Olya Kaye was the winner of the 2001 Canadian Girls Chess Championship. Then she abandoned competitve chess to concentrate on life. In 2009 she decided to play chess against 15 people simultaneously at her place of employment to raise money for the United Way.
She describes the process of getting back into chess, and preparing for a simul.
There was only one other problem: playing against 15 people at the same time is far different than playing against one person. It is a real burden on memory, focus, judgement, calculation, and quick thinking. It also hurts your legs after a couple of hours—especially if you are a woman wearing heels. The simul is also a spectator’s game. Everyone is watching your every move. And in my case, being a woman, playing against all men doubled up the spectatorship and the pressure. “Will she crack?” my colleagues were wondering.

A national utility tracker has estimated that nearly 2.7 million Texans are currently without power, a serious concern with most of Texas dealing with single-digit temperatures and below-zero wind chills.
Texas has not experienced a cold snap like this in decades according to the National Weather Service.
And liberals are shocked to discover that when it is cold, people need to use more power to stay warm. And with the wind turbines frozen, guess what that means.
While the Department of Energy has authorized Texas power plants to begin operating at maximum capacity, environmental watchdogs note that doing so will likely "result in a violation of limits of pollution."

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s cover-up of nursing home deaths from COVID-19 hid nearly 1,900 fatalities in New York City alone — with new figures sending the tally at one Queens facility skyrocketing more than 1,000 percent.
That amounts to an undercount of either 53 or 56 percent, depending on which numbers you use. Either way, it is lying to the people of New York and America.
The Post exclusively revealed last week that Cuomo’s top aide, Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa, privately told Democratic lawmakers that his administration withheld data on the hospital deaths from them in August due to a pending probe by federal prosecutors.
What did the Governor know, and when did he know it?

Two guys were fighting on a Chicago Transit Authority train platform when a train pulled into the station. A woman on the train, with a 4-year-old boy, saw them fighting.
She looked out the train doors to see what was going on, prosecutors said Saturday.
They said one of the men, Calvin Williams, walked onto her train car and kicked her young son in the face.
What kind of a monster kicks a 4-year-old in the face?
Williams has four felony convictions, including two for burglary and one for a 2015 hate crime, prosecutors said.

Our tough guy in this case, Tony Davis, wanted the purse of an 85-year-old woman. He knocked her to the ground, because he was entitled to what was in that purse.
The woman suffered a head injury, but recovered and even took time to pose for pictures with the officers who arrested Davis. She barely rises to the officers’ shoulders in the photos — a far cry from Davis’ hulking 240-pound, 6’1” frame.
Because nothing says tough-guy like throwing a petite 85-year-old woman to the ground. And the photo of the victim and the cops is at that 2nd link.
Davis was paroled last February after serving half of a two-year sentence for narcotics. His previous prison sentences include:
- 1 year for retail theft in 2016
- 2 years for aggravated battery of a merchant in 2014
- 1 year for retail theft in 2013
- 2 years for theft in 2012
- 6 years for burglary in 2008
- 6 years for burglary in 2005
- 6 years for burglary in 1999
- 3 years for burglary in 1997
- 6 years for armed robbery in 1993
