Today the original story is a Humboldt County Sheriff's Office press release. Parolee Shot by Resident during Home Invasion Burglary

This is a story I covered on 18 September, but we have more information today, and we have commentary by Mr. Colion Noir. He usually has interesting things to say.

On September 14, 2026, at approximately 4:34 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in ... Eureka reporting that he had shot a male subject who had forcibly entered his residence.

Humboldt County, California, is about 165 miles north of San Francisco. It is right on the Pacific coast.

The guy who got shot ran off, but cops arrested him a short time later. He faces charges of burglary, Felon/Addict in Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Entry of an Occupied Dwelling, and violating his parole.

This is Colion Noir's video A Parolee, A Forced Entry, And A Homeowner Who Refused To Be A Victim. Mr. Noir gets the hat tip. He points out all of the important parts of the press release, and covers the stuff omitted by, or just touched on, by the Sheriff's Office.

Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, deputies determined the victim acted out of fear for their life when Aubrey was shot. The victim was not arrested in connection with the shooting. The case has been forwarded to the Humble County District Attorney's Office for review.

Freight trains passing through Chicago have increasingly become moving targets for thieves who board railcars, sometimes while they are moving, force open shipping containers and haul away cargo ranging from large-screen televisions and laptops to air conditioners and laundry detergent.

It is a problem that has been growing, and because Chicago is a rail crossroads, it is a big problem. (Chicago does not have the larges railcar switching yard, but it has several yards, and several freight lines that converge on the region. And at times, freight trains move slowly.

The article starts with a mention of the crime from 2015, and then moves to 2 years ago.

In August 2024, Chicago police arrested four men accused of stealing 39 big-screen Roku televisions worth $12,441 from a Norfolk Southern railcar near 63rd Street and South Wentworth Avenue. According to a police report, a CPD camera operator saw the men loading the televisions into a pickup truck at a gas station next to the tracks.

There are more incidents, including one from this year.

Crime does pay in a place like Chicago, because while some people are caught, not all are.

Don't Bring a Pickaxe to a Gunfight

That is not a title I expected to type. Lehigh Acres pickaxe attack suspect arrested after victim shoots him in self-defense, sheriff says - WBBH

He was told to leave a property. He didn't leave and shoved the victim with the pickaxe, causing him to fall to the ground. He then stood over the victim, and made threats. The guy on the ground shot him in the shin.

At first the guy didn't want to pursue charges, but after a second incident, he decided he had been through enough. Cops arrested the guy with the pickaxe a few days later.

Lehigh Acres, Florida is on about 5 or 10 miles east of Fort Myers, which is on the Gulf Coast, about due west of Palm Beach.

Female Students Spoke Harshly to the Criminals

I don't like to blame victims, but I do have to call out stupidity. And this is monumental stupidity. No, mountainous stupidity. This is stupidity that exists on a planetary scale.

According to testimony provided by the victims, a crowd of at least 30 people associated with illegal street racing had gathered near their property when the assault occurred. The altercation escalated after one of the racing vehicles crashed into a car parked outside the students’ home, prompting the residents to ask the crowd to clear their private property.

In response, the mob surrounded one of the students, dragged her into the street, and beat her severely. The victim reported being kicked simultaneously by as many as 12 individuals, causing her to lose consciousness twice from repeated strikes to her head and ribs. Other female students who attempted to intervene were dragged by their hair and physically assaulted.

York, Pennsylvania, is about 45 miles north of Baltimore, or about a 95 mile drive west of Philadelphia. It is home to York College, whose administration made a statement about student safety. Penn State has a satellite campus in the area. They don't call the home occupied by a bunch of coeds a sorority, but that is sure what it sounds like.

Now these are college coeds, so they are slightly to the Left of Chairman Mao, and none of them would be caught in possession of a firearm. But how stupid do you have to be to confront a group of 30 criminals with nothing more durable than a strong word. What did they think would happen? Why didn't they call 911 before the assaults started? Did they really think that street racers would just bow down to their complete-lack-of-authority, and decide to suddenly start obeying the law? Or are they so entitled that they think they deserve to be obeyed, and will therefore be obeyed, by anyone to whom they give orders?

But then I expect these are all Karens in training. What do you call a group of Karens? A flock? A sorority? A homeowners association?

They did call 911 after the bad things started happening, and then they were dismayed by the fact that cops didn't arrive instantly. (Seconds count... minutes away.) Click thru for those details.

Ex-Florida Cop Might Face Justice

The former Florida sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed U.S. Airman Roger Fortson has resorted to several tactics over the past two years to either delay or dismiss the manslaughter charges against him.

But a Florida judge denied Eddie Duran’s latest attempt to get the case dismissed on Sept. 11., putting him on track to face a jury later this month for killing the 23-year-old Black man.

Duran went to U.S. Airman Roger Fortson's apartment in the middle of the night. There was a distrubance in the apartment below Fortson's apartment, but in addition to not being able to read maps, it seems cops also have trouble with floor numbers.

Duran pounded on the door, and screamed about being police, but he was not standing in a place where Forston could see him through the peephole, because no one can scream "police" except the police or something. Fortson answered the door armed. The gun was pointed at the ground, and he never threatened Duran. Duran shot an killed him within a couple of seconds. Why? Because he is a cop, and your 2nd Amendment right to armed in his presence is moot. Or something.

Since May 3, 2024, Meka Fortson has driven from Georgia to Florida for every hearing in the Okaloosa County courtroom where her son died, just seconds after he opened his front door with a gun pointed downward at his side.

Meka Fortson told Atlanta Black Star in a June interview that a judge denied Duran’s trial 17 times since prosecutors charged him with manslaughter on Aug. 23, 2024.

“You want all this time, but you killed Roger so fast,” she said in the most recent interview.

Canada Is Now In the Business of Killing Old People

This is a long article, and you should read all of it, but here is the main point. She was not able to consent. Yet they took her consent.

In a cognitive test, designed to ascertain whether she was sound of mind enough to consent to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), Stegemann ‘got every question wrong’, believing her two living siblings to be dead, according to Kranendonk.

So after she failed that test, they came back with another test. Except they didn't have any way to judge the answers.

As opposed to questions such as who the prime minister was, or that day's date, the grandmother was asked personal questions, like how many siblings she had.

‘But none of that is in her records. They would not know if the information was correct, or not,’ Kranendonk says.

Even so, Stegemann got the answers wrong.

She said she had no siblings, despite having 13.

So She failed cognitive tests, and yet they still deemed her cognitively fit to consent to being killed.

That sounds to me like they decided to kill her no matter what.

The family fought to keep the elderly Mrs. Stegemann alive for a long time, and then, while they were out of town, their grandmother apparently came back into her right mind long enough to tell doctors it was okay to kill her. She was so lucid, in fact, that authorities didn't even need to have her granddaughter present, despite the fact that she had power of attorney!

I miss living in a civilized society.

Alabama Judge Calls Shooting Self-Defense

500 death threats. He was shot once before the night in question. Cops still arrested him, and he spent 2 years on house arrest. Alabama judge dismisses murder charge, citing Stand Your Ground law

During Brooks’ Stand Your Ground hearing on Aug. 26, there was record of Green being involved in gang activity and threatening Brooks for over a year.

“The deceased told my client, you’re either with us or you’re against us. From that point forward, it was hell,” [criminal defense attorney Victor] Revill said.

“My client testified on the stand that from the time of May 2023 to when this incident happened in June of 2024, no less than 500 death threats he received,” Revill said.

In November of 2023 Green shot Brooks in the ribcage.

“The wheels of justice move slow, but they move,” Revill said.

Self-defense is a human right, and it just might be your legal right in Alabama, though you could say that The Process Is The Punishment, and not be wrong. (Hat tip to Keep and Bear Arms.)

FBI (Allegedly) Hacked

The hackers have claimed to have hacked the anti-hackers. FBI rushes to investigate if ShinyHunters hack of thousands of employees is real - Ars Technica

Some day, government agencies will take security seriously, but today, is not that day. (Apologies to Aragorn, in LotR: RotK.)

On Tuesday, 404 Media reported that ShinyHunters took down the agency site, FBIJobs.gov, then posted a banner on the homepage that said “THIS SITE HAS BEEN SEIZED BY SHINYHUNTERS.”

About two to three terabytes of data were taken, ShinyHunters told The New York Times. None of the data has been leaked yet, but it included “names of current and former agents as well as applicants and corresponding home addresses, phone numbers, names of spouses, certain medical information, and other data.”

None of the data has been published, but I can't imagine that will last. And the FBI - Funded, But Incompetent - has not admitted that the data is real.

Why would hackers do such a thing? Because they were mad that the FBI published false allegations about ShinnyHunters, and they were "severely offended." (Seems legit to me.)

In a message posted on the dark web that was reviewed by Ars, ShinyHunters said it was “severely offended” that the FBI alleged that they sometimes use “exaggerated claims” to extract payments from victims. “We wish to state unequivocally our threats and claims are very real,” the group said. “Not exaggerated and never a bluff.”

And they are not looking for money. They want the FBI to set the record straight, according to their version of the facts.

The group’s motive was not to extort the FBI or seek a ransom, it claimed. Instead, the strike was meant to force the FBI to either remove or edit a May advisory warning about ShinyHunters that the group said circulated “disinformation in an attempt to ‘disrupt’ our operations.”

That information being that ShinnyHunters engaged in SWATting and Sextortion, which they deny.

The section of the FBI that they are really targeting, is the FBI Cyber Division, headed by Brett Leatherman. Click thru for the details. It would be interesting to know how they penetrated the FBI. It seems it was a job applicant and HR site, so it may be by way of a 3rd party, or it could be that site was viewed as low priority. But the federal government has been hacked many times.

The largest hack of the US Government, that I am aware of, was the 2015 hack of The Office of Personnel Management. That impacted 21.5 million people, both inside and outside the government.

911 Response Times Rise in NYC

Calling 911 is a fine thing to do. They can send all kinds of help to you, but even if the system works as designed, help will not arrive instantly. NYPD, FDNY emergency response times getting slower — as NYC police overtime slashed, report shows

The NYPD’s end-to-end response times for crimes in progress rose to an average of 15 minutes and 21 seconds during the 2026 fiscal year, the report found.

The lethargic overall responses by New York’s Finest came as Mamdani nixed adding 580 cops to the force’s ranks – and despite crime-in-progress calls falling by tens of thousands, the data shows.

FDNY's response time to medical emergencies went from 10 minutes, 21 seconds during the previous fiscal year to 11 minutes, 55 seconds in the fiscal year just ended.

Ambulance response times increased from 11 minutes, 21 seconds to 13 minutes, 9 seconds.

The FDNY response to structure fires stood at about 5 minutes, which has held constant for 4 years.

The Mayor is all in on reporting that crime is down, year-over-year, but I would be interested to know what are the crime rates as compared to 10 years ago, or more. I don't have access to that sort of info for NYC. I'm sure it is available, I just don't know where to get it easily.

15 minutes is a long time to wait for police, and 10 minutes is a long time to wait if someone is having a medical emergency. You should have a plan B, aside for "Call 911 and wait." This should at the very least include CPR and first aid. You might want to consider other options as well. Those times listed are averages. (Probably mean time, but the articles I looked at didn't say.) Some people will wait longer. Some people will get help sooner.

California Revolving Door Justice Results in a Death

So, how is that Criminal Justice Reform working out? California gunman arrested 3 times in a month before killing elderly homeowner

I want to be shocked, but I'm not. They never actually lock people up until they kill someone.

A gunman who murdered a local government worker in Northern California before cops shot him dead committed several crimes in the weeks before the attack.

Derek Spencer, 44, was detained three times in September — weeks before he killed longtime former Placer County District Attorney’s Office employee Cheryl Macy over the weekend.

He was arrested in Sacramento County, for felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest on September 3rd. That should have been enough to hold him for a little while, but keeping people in jail is unfair, or something. He was then arrested on a burglary charge in Folsom County, on September 14th. He was arrested for auto-theft on the 16th. He was released all three times.

Law enforcement officials believe Spencer killed Macy as he ran from law enforcement following further crimes, including pointing a firearm at people in Placer County.

That was either on the 19th or 20th. The time of death was not released.

The Progressive Left will tell you how unfair it is to keep people in jail, and so they don't. How unfair was all of this to Cheryl Macy and her family?

Why aren't judges held responsible for the completely foreseeable consequences of their actions? Oh, that's right; they granted themselves immunity.

Straight Shooting about Gun Laws

The end of the so-called Assault Weapons Ban has seen more spin coming out of the left, than you can shake a stick at. The media has been bemoaning the fact that we will soon see automatic weapons everywhere. Of course, the Clinton gun ban didn't touch on automatic weapons at all. These are covered (present tense) by the National Firearms Act of 1934 - which is still in place.

I hope this will be a blogging clearing house for the real deal about this and other lies of the left.

The archives still exist, but there are so many links that have been co-opted by SPAM and other unsavory sites, that it was under attack by the Left for violations of terms and conditions. I had to make the entire blog private.

In this case it was a medical alert company that called 911 on behalf of an elderly woman. She was being attacked in her own home. They called 911 twice. There was a three-hour delay in getting cops to her.

Say that again. When seconds count, cops are only 3 hours away.

Hundreds of pages of records obtained by TMJ4 through an open records request detail how emergency calls were initially classified, why investigators believed warning signs were missed and how two Milwaukee 911 call takers ultimately resigned in lieu of termination.

Not arrested for depraved indifference to human suffering. Not fined. Not fired. Resigned.

I can find almost no information on the defendant in the beating, 23-year-old Joseph Guadalupe Macias. He is described as having family in the area. I can find his booking photo, and almost nothing else.
