Where was the Post's investigation when he was a dirt-bag masquerading as a Brooklyn DA? NYPD watchdog loses job over sexual harassment allegations

If you're breaking the law - or at least the rules - can you really be a DA? Apparently you can in Brooklyn.

The newly appointed NYPD inspector general “notoriously” sexually harassed women colleagues for more than a decade, The Post has learned — prompting his ouster from the plum position Thursday.

Charles Guria sexually harassed at least seven current and former prosecutors and interns during his tenure at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, according to nine former and current prosecutors who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

I can't find a reference to exactly how long he was a King's County prosecutor, but he started in 1990 and there is one incident in 2018 listed. So, a long damn time.

“It’s not even an open secret, it’s just open. He’s one of the most notorious harassers in any DA office in the city.”

He is denying, and his lawyer is in hyperbole mode, saying that the story at the Post will have "earth-shattering consequences." [Looks around the room. Yep still here... Earth not shattered even a little]

So how did this guy work for many, many years as a Brooklyn DA when he can't even manage to be a decent human being?

Guria’s reputation is based on what eight former colleagues described as “creepy,” “disgusting,” “weird” and “inappropriate” behavior that was primarily aimed at young, inexperienced staffers and that spans more than a decade.

How? Because The System™ takes care of its own. The Rules only apply to The Little People, not to those on the inside.

And why didn't anyone come forward in all that time? Because they would have had their careers destroyed for trying to apply The Rules on the inside.

Tell Me Again How Many Rounds I Might Need to Defend Myself

A modern 40 caliber pistol. I'm going to go out on limb and guess there were more than 10 rounds in the magazine. Colorado homeowner emptied pistol to kill bear that broke in.

Not that the media will provide more info, because the narrative must be defended. Though this is a story I covered last week. It is worth repeating because it makes a point.

He shot the bear once, and all that did was make it mad.

In an interview, Ken Mauldin said he grabbed his 40-caliber pistol, took his wife’s place at the door and shot once, aiming for the center of the bear’s body. He thinks the first shot hit the bear and it charged him as Mauldin continued firing.

As he was shooting, the bear got as close as 5 feet (1.5 meters) from Mauldin and then turned toward the stairs leading to the home’s front door. The bear crashed through a bannister as Mauldin emptied the gun and slid down the stairs, mortally wounded.

How many rounds you need for self-defense sort of depends on any number of factors that you can't know ahead of time, but it will include things like are you dealing with a freaking bear, or if there are multiple bad guys. Also, how many times am I allowed to miss when I am shaking from the stress and the adrenaline?

Self-defense is a human-right.

The amazing thing is that the Prosecutors actually wanted this kid held in detention.

“In both cases, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed felony charges immediately and argued that he should remain reasonably in secure detention,” wrote Casey McNerthney, information officer for the prosecutor’s office. “In both cases, the teen was released from juvenile detention by a judge’s order, over the objection of prosecutors.”

In the July 19 incident, the teen suspect was armed with a Ruger P-91, .40-caliber pistol, which police seized. About three weeks later, on the afternoon of Aug. 4, this same teen was armed with a 9mm Glock Model 43 pistol, according to the two different court documents.

“The teen now faces 4 felony charges in ongoing cases filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office: 2 felony charges for fentanyl and 2 felony charges for illegal gun possession,” McNerthney’s email noted.

He wasn't held this time either, but given "electronic monitoring." I don't expect that to do much good, unless the system in Seattle works much better than it does in other parts of the country.

In Chicago, Manhattan, and few other places, the prosecutors would probably have dismissed the charges outright. Or filed some misdemeanor substitute.

A Mother Defends Her Children

That is what parents are supposed to do, protect their children. Mother of 2 fatally shoots alleged intruder, claims self-defense

The mother, who asked not to be identified, told TMJ4 News that she was in the shower when she heard her 12 and 14-year-old children screaming from the living room.

Without hesitation, she raced to her bedroom, grabbed her gun, and ran into the hallway to face down the intruder, she said.

He was being attacked by her two dogs, but he kept advancing on her.

Milwaukee PD arrested her, but released her after questioning. Final decisions on charges will be made by the DA. In a Blue city she might be charged, because you are not supposed to take individual responsibility; they want you to rely on the state for everything..

The mother bought the gun ten years ago, she said, after discovering a man sleeping under her son's bed. She said she hoped she'd never need to use it.

They plan on moving.

Self-defense, and defense of family is a human-right.

Creep Tries to Kidnap 9-year-old Girl

The girl and her grandmother were walking in the 6600 block of North Damen Avenue when the man grabbed the girl and started running with her around 9:53 a.m., according to a CPD media statement.

But the girl had other plans. She chomped down on the man’s finger when they reached the 6600 block of North Ridge Boulevard and got away. The kidnapper kept running, according to police.

This took place in the middle of day (well, middle of the morning) in Chicago. I think it is fair to say that may be a sign of crumbling social norms, or even a sign of a crumbling society.

And so I am again reminded of Hobbes, and his State of War.

What would the fate of that 9-year-old girl have been if she didn't - through her own strength and teeth - escape from this creep? Would she even be alive? How traumatized is she as things stand? What is the grandmother thinking? Perhaps she will never walk with her granddaughter again because of fear.

You Don't Need a Key to Start Some Cars

In Chicago, there has been a 767% increase in the thefts of Kias and/or Hundai automobiles.

The increased thefts are presumably connected to videos shared on social media that show how to start these cars without a key, the statement said. Unoccupied vehicles that require a physical key and not a start button are being targeted.

Owners of Kias and Hyundais should consider taking steps to put themselves at less risk for theft, such as installing kill switches that make the vehicle inoperable without a key, car alarms with motion detection, steering wheel locking devices or vehicle tracking systems, according to the statement.

Someday companies will take security seriously. But this is not that day.

They still sell The Club. 80 or 100 bucks to avoid the problems with having your car stolen... Sounds like a deal.

Drugs Can Be Hazardous to Your Health

Two friends were on property belonging to one of them. A third guy is trespassing, and they ask him to leave. That results in one of the friends being attacked.

After ignoring warnings from the homeowner, he then turned and approached the homeowner "in an aggressive manner."

Sheriff’s deputies say Spencer shot Puckett in the hip area.

Puckett was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital where he was treated and released.

He is not in custody, but there is a warrant for misdemeanor trespassing and assault.

Deputies say they believe Puckett was under the influence of illegal drugs.

Maybe he will think twice when a man with a gun asks him to stop assaulting his friend. Then again, if he had any brains he wouldn't be doing drugs.

Self-defense is a human-right.

Lies, Damn Lies, and Chicago Crime Statistics

Are we shocked that Mayor Lightfoot and Chicago PD Superintendent Brown would lie about crime? Or mislead a lot, anyway? Chicago crime statistics: Even worse than you think – Wirepoints

In a recent interview Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot sounded like she might have been acknowledging reality about Chicago crime, with a reported admission about growing trouble downtown. But she really wasn’t.

That’s because as always this year, she accented that murders and shootings so far were down somewhat compared to last year. Murders and shooting incidents are 16 and 18 percent less than in 2021, respectively, as of last week’s end. Yet that claim is still misleading because last year isn’t the right comparison. 2021 was the worst for Chicago murders in 25 years. The better measure for major crimes like murders and shooting incidents, and anything else, is versus the last pre-Covid, pre-George Floyd year of 2019.

So when Lightfoot & Company compare Chicago to the sh*tshow of the 21st Century, they are not doing too bad. When they compare Chicago to the reality of the past 30 years or so, the suck like a Hoover vacuum.

Citywide data from the Chicago Police Department show that versus 2019, YTD Week 32 murders in Chicago for 2022 are up 31 percent and shooting incidents are up 33 percent. This is a far cry from the 2022-2021 comparisons Lightfoot and her Police Superintendent David Brown have continued to accentuate: down 16 percent and down 18 percent at Week 32’s close, respectively.

There’s more bad news. Motor vehicle theft in Chicago is up 57 percent versus 2019 YTD, to 8,537 from 5,449. And theft is up 32 percent, to 11,115 from 8,410.

The System Protecting Bad Cops

She had worked with Los Angeles police investigators for months to prove that her former boyfriend, an LAPD officer, had sexually assaulted her and acted inappropriately with other women and arrestees. Then, in September, she received a letter saying they had corroborated her claims.

But the fact that she was telling the truth didn't matter to the LAPD. The cop in question was never punished, and in fact is still a cop in LA.

Mathews’ case is one of many in recent years in which LAPD officers accused of serious misconduct have been spared punishment by department disciplinary boards whose decisions trump those of internal investigators and the police chief.

Because of course they trump the actual investigation.

He returned to the job and worked out of the Foothill Division until recently, when he was reassigned to home pending a new investigation into an unrelated matter that officials would not describe.

So this is a case of one bad cop acting badly, and then the system swooping in to protect that bad cop from any repercussions, followed by said cop coming under investigation for another bad act.

This can best be summed up as: "Rinse, Repeat."

Any bets on the outcome this time?

The Media Is Treating Cheney Like a Fallen Hero

The lament begins. (Wailing and gnashing of teeth? Probably not that bad.) Rep. Liz Cheney loses her primary in Wyoming to Trump-backed challenger

The media always loves a Republican loser. They love them better when they lose to Democrats, but they take what they can get.

Cheney was first elected to the House seat her father once held in 2016, and she was immediately tagged a rising star because of her background — both her father’s legacy and her experience as a senior State Department official — and her ability to deliver political messages forcefully and succinctly.

If it was any deeper, I would need hip waders just to read the article. And this is not the worst of the few I glanced at.

Of course they love her. She hates Trump, and that is enough for now. They would eventually come to hate her as much as they loathed her father, but that won't come to pass.

There is more about how the impeachment vote and January 6 are not playing well to actual Republicans.

This wasn't hard to predict, and several - many - people did. The Other McCain has some info on what it means going forward. R.I.P., Republican Establishment

Click thru for most of it, but this observation sums up why she lost fairly well.

How strange was it that Liz Cheney, allegedly representing Wyoming in Congress, should be anti-Trump, when no state in the Union gave a greater share of its vote to Trump in 2020 than Wyoming, where Trump came within a statistical eyelash of getting 70% of the vote. In essence, Liz Cheney has been waging war on her own state’s voters.

Personally I expect to see her move to a different state, and then move to a different party saying something about not being welcome in the party of Trump, and then the media will love her even more.

Dark Eyes

Guitarists known mostly as Country Music guys don't get much love. Especially if they were also all around entertainers. I'm not sure that was the case with today's artist, but he was an amazing guitar player.

A lot of Chet Atkins' music is drawn from various genres. Jazz, Dixieland (he recorded a version of St. Louis Blues), and Spanish. He is known mostly as a Country Music player (at least in my opinion) because he doesn't use effects or distortion of any kind. The sound is what the guitar produces. Well, some of it does sound like there is a bit of delay or reverb, and some of it sounds like there is a preamp in the effects chain, but it is not over-driving anything. It is a very clean sound, which is what Country Music players of the 1950s, 60s and 70s were going for.

"Ochi Chornya" is a traditional Russian romance song. Chet Atkins made it his own. Aside from this version, he also performed it live on at least one television show. (That performance is on YT if you're interested.)

This song is "Ochi Chornya" (Dark Eyes) by Chet Atkins. I'm fairly certain that this recording was made in 1955 for the album Chet Atkins in Three Dimensions, but I do know it was included in the 2007 compilation album Eclectic Guitar.

The husband saw the bear 10 feet away from the bedroom door, and started shoot with a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

At about 5 or 6 feet the bear changed direction and crashed through a banister on the stairs.

"That is within their legal rights to do that if they feel threatened by the bear," Gonzales said of the homeowner's actions.

Gonzales told CBS News Colorado there is no indication the large bear had been in homes before, but all bears are looking for food to fatten up for winter.

The ease of opening doors with lever handles are a problem in physical security, but this was the first time I've heard of a bear using one.

He was interviewed and released on bail but later arrested again over allegations of witness intimidation and remanded into custody.

And 9 weeks is really only going to piss this guy off. It is at this point I usually recommend that victims of this kind of insanity should consider opting for a firearm, a case of ammo, and some training. And a concealed carry permit if such is available in your state. Or required. Constitutional Carry is a thing in Ohio and in a lot of states. But this case is from the UK, so self-defense is not an option. This woman is at the mercy of this asshole and the ability of the police to keep him in line. So, in other words, she's SOL.

If you have an iPhone it should notify you of AirTags that are in your vicinity. If you have an Android phone there are apps you can install that will check for AirTags in your location. Don't ignore this tech if you think you might have someone in your life who qualifies as a stalker.
