More than a million British Columbians are currently waiting to see a specialist, a recent survey has found.
The Consultant Specialists of BC in partnership with Doctors of BC surveyed 1,000 specialists and said the results exposed a “waitlist crisis that is severely compromising the health and well-being of British Columbians.”
They wait four weeks for urgent cases, ten weeks for semi-urgent, and up to 10 months for non-urgent cases.
The video is pointless, though the part where the bureaucrats want more study and analysis of the data. But then the bureaucrats are blaming the COVID response, when doctors couldn't do surgeries. Of course that was a bureaucrat-created problem.
The article also doesn't break out what the different categories in the wait class mean, but the video seems to imply that orthopedic surgery - like for a bad hip - is not high on the list of priorities. That's only a guess on my part.
The simple answer is to hire more doctors, but since all doctors work for the government health care system, that isn't easy to do. But that isn't easy to do anywhere because the market doesn't impact on medicine anywhere, thanks to government bureaucracies and/or insurance bureaucracies.

West Memphis, Arkansas is just across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee.
14-year-old Wendell "Dan Dan" Moore was shot and killed. A 16-year-old was shot but survived. An 11-year-old was arrested for participating in the crime.
Police say Moore and the 16-year-old broke into the home through a back window while the 11-year-old acted as a lookout. The homeowner, who was home during the burglary, reportedly shot both Moore and the 16-year-old.
The investigation is ongoing, but this didn't happen in New York City, and Arkansas hasn't morphed into a copy of New Jersey. No charges have been brought against the homeowner.
The 16-year-old is being charged with Capital Murder as an adult and the 11-year-old is being charged with First-Degree Murder as a juvenile in connection to the incident.
Being charged for the completely foreseeable consequences of your actions? The Left won't like that.
The father is sad, and the grandmother is sad, and I recognize that this is a tragedy for the family, but if the ages of these kids doesn't scream that the society is collapsing, I don't know what does.
So what were you doing at 11, at 16? I'm guessing that breaking and entering wasn't on the agenda.

Last summer, Anthropic inspired backlash when its ClaudeBot AI crawler was accused of hammering websites a million or more times a day.
And it wasn't the only artificial intelligence company making headlines for supposedly ignoring instructions in robots.txt files to avoid scraping web content on certain sites. Around the same time, Reddit's CEO called out all AI companies whose crawlers he said were "a pain in the ass to block," despite the tech industry otherwise agreeing to respect "no scraping" robots.txt rules.
And so since the AI companies didn't feel that they were bound by the requests of people running sites, to not steal their data for their AI models, a malicious hacker took a hand and built endless, ever-changing mazes. Mazes that not only trap the dammed AI web crawler, but feed it a diet of poison.
Building on an anti-spam cybersecurity tactic known as tarpitting, he created Nepenthes, malicious software named after a carnivorous plant that will "eat just about anything that finds its way inside."
Aaron clearly warns users that Nepenthes is aggressive malware. It's not to be deployed by site owners uncomfortable with trapping AI crawlers and sending them down an "infinite maze" of static files with no exit links, where they "get stuck" and "thrash around" for months, he tells users. Once trapped, the crawlers can be fed gibberish data, aka Markov babble, which is designed to poison AI models. That's likely an appealing bonus feature for any site owners who, like Aaron, are fed up with paying for AI scraping and just want to watch AI burn.
Only one AI web crawler has managed to escape from the tarpit.
It would also be appealing to people who really don't want AI to train on their data, though watching AI burn would be entertaining, all on its own, for some people.
It hasn't even been released yet, and it is setting records, just not the kind of record that Disney was probably hoping for.

An altercation took place outside of a restaurant last weekend between 50-year-old Richard Trout and 23-year-old Skyler Whitefield-Brewner. Trout was shot and killed.
Meanwhile, police said Whitefield-Brewner — who was known by witnesses at the location — fled the scene. However, he showed up at MNPD Headquarters Saturday afternoon to speak with detectives.
Authorities said no charges have been filed against Whitefield-Brewner in connection with the shooting, but he was booked into jail Saturday evening on two outstanding warrants.
Well, not really one day. It took Electronic Arts years to piss off their customer base, and it took months for the market analysts to notice that they had alienated their customer base. It took one day for the market to respond.
Electronic Arts (EA) is, or at least was, one of the most successful video game companies ever. They had everything from John Madden Football and FIFA International Soccer to Dragon Age and The SIMS.
But they stopped caring about creativity, and started caring about microtransactions and The Message™. As a result, their customer base is starting to disappear.
Most recently they produced the Message Heavy™ Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which was more than a commercial flop, it is a laughing-stock.
The critical issue is the lack of revenue from FC 25, the current iteration of FIFA International Soccer. It failed to make its revenue projections, which was one of the issues leading to the stock plunge. The FIFA Football franchise has been one of their primary sources of revenue. Players are apparently done with the endless microtransactions, the expensive, yearly Downloadable Content (DLC) and the endless drain on their wallets, for not a lot in return.
On 22 January 2025, EA stock closed at $142.35 per share. The next day it closed at $118.58. I'm still drinking coffee as I type this, but that tells me, based on the current market capitalization, that Electronic Arts lost about six billion dollars in shareholder value. I'm sure that the market analysts have no clue as to what went wrong.

Amazon provided a software development kit called Amazon Ads SDK to developers. Embedded in that SDK was a whole bunch of tracking.
This allegedly enabled Amazon to collect an enormous amount of timestamped geolocation data about where consumers live, work, shop and visit, revealing sensitive information such as religious affiliations, sexual orientations and health concerns.
No one agreed to this, because Amazon didn't bother to ask.
"Amazon has effectively fingerprinted consumers and has correlated a vast amount of personal information about them entirely without consumers' knowledge and consent," the complaint said.
The complaint was filed by Felix Kolotinsky of San Mateo, California, who said Amazon collected his personal information through the "Speedtest by Ookla" app on his phone.
