Floridians Are Heavily Armed

More on the case of the use of an AK-47-style rifle in self-defense. And self-defense is a recognized legal right. Florida burglars run for lives after resident opens fire: video

Three guys decided it was a good idea to invade an armed home in Florida, while one guy stood watch outside the home.

Deputies said the homeowner dropped a gun he was holding while trying to fend off the attack and that the pistol was picked up by one of the intruders.

But the victim managed to scramble to another part of the house where he kept additional firearms and began shooting at his assailants.

Gunfire can be heard exploding on the Ring camera footage, followed by all three invaders scampering out of the home and away from the scene, cops said.

The homeowner retrieved what the Left loves to call an "assault weapon." More accurately described as a semiautomatic rifle.

Cops have identified 3 of the 4 people involved and already arrested 3 of them. The two who were arrested "face multiple charges including home invasion and illegal gun possession."

The Sheriff of Escambia County, Chip Simmons, is a firm believer in self-defense.

“If someone breaks into my front door, barges in and attacks me or my family, they are going to get shot,” Simmons said. “I afford that same consideration to the residents of my county.”

Self-defense is a human-right, and clearly Florida is not Alvin Bragg's New York City.

I feel the need to listen to some 80s music. NYC releases PSA for residents in the event of a nuclear attack.

I had heard of this of course, but a relative sent me a link to the Gutfeld's Show segment where they talked about it. So, here we are.

As if New Yorkers don’t have enough to worry about, they’re now getting step-by-step instructions on what to do if the Big Apple comes under nuclear attack.

New York City’s Emergency Management Department released a 90-second public service announcement Monday featuring empty city streets and sirens going off in the background amid the rare event.

Of course if NYC comes under nuclear attack, then I don't think most New Yorkers will be worried about fallout. I could be mistaken.

Lydia Moynihan, on Gutfeld's show, said that there are people in city government being paid to do stuff, so they have to do stuff, even if it is insane. (The portion of Gutfeld's show on the insanity is at this link.)

I ran across Jack Pearson's name on a YouTube channel I quite like. I hadn't heard of him before, but I really like what I've heard so far.

Energetic guitar, that isn't screaming at me. And since Jack Pearson is (mostly) a session musician in and around Nashville, he his backed up by a real band made up of other pros. I'm looking forward to exploring more of his music.

The Detonation of the Gadget At Trinity - The Advent of the Nuclear Age

July 16, 1945. 5:29 AM Mountain Time, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. (Shamelessly stolen from myself. Well, mostly.)

Even with Cold War 2.0 ramping up, and people like the bureaucratic idiots who work for NYC talking about nuclear explosions, I don't think many people will mark tomorrow's anniversary. (The image to the right is of The Gadget being readied for detonation.

The Gadget was detonated - the 1st atomic explosion - by the Manhattan Project. It was a plutonium implosion device.

At 05:29:21 (July 16, 1945) local time, the device exploded. It left a crater of radioactive glass in the desert 10 feet (3.0 m) deep and 1,100 feet (340 m) wide. At the time of detonation, the surrounding mountains were illuminated brighter than daytime for one to two seconds, and the heat was reported as being as hot as an oven at the base camp. The observed colors of the illumination ranged from purple to green and eventually to white. The roar of the shock wave took 40 seconds to reach the observers. The shock wave was felt over 100 miles (160 km) away, and the mushroom cloud reached 7.5 miles (12.1 km) in height. After the initial euphoria of witnessing the explosion had passed, test director Kenneth Bainbridge commented to Los Alamos director J. Robert Oppenheimer, Now we are all sons of bitches. Oppenheimer later stated that, while watching the test, he was reminded of a line from the Bhagavad Gita, a Hindu scripture: Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.

(The Gadget was similar to Fat Man, which was dropped on Nagasaki on the 9th August that year. Little Boy, which was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, was a uranium gun-trigger.)

The best documentary I have seen on The Manhattan Project is The Day After Trinity. It is currently available on YouTube; how long that will be the case is anyone's guess. When it was filmed, several of the scientists from The Manhattan Project were still alive for interviews.

It was later determined to be an 18-to-20 kiloton explosion. (The equivalent of 18,000 tons of TNT or more) Relatively small by modern standards. Thermonuclear - or hydrogen - bombs are measured in megatons. (The largest - Tsar Bomba of the USSR - measured 50 megatons)

One of the most amazing things about the Manhattan Project was how fast the military moved once the scientists had delivered their bomb components. Hiroshima would be bombed less than a month after the Trinity Test, on August 6th, and Nagasaki 3 days after that on August 9th. Ships carrying the components left the US before they knew if the test would be a success.

Texas Dad "Happened" to Be Armed

They suffered a failure of the victim-selection process.

A Texas father shot two teenage would-be robbers Sunday night after the pair tried to carjack his SUV with his wife and two infant children inside.

Local news reports that "The father, who happened to be armed, fired several rounds through a rear window and hit both suspects, according to deputies. His wife then continued driving to get away."

Both would-be bad-guys were struck with gunfire. The NY Post story on this incident lists them both in stable condition. (They jumped into a car and were dropped off at a hospital.)

The father is not facing charges, because unlike Manhattan's DA Alvin Bragg, the system in Texas doesn't penalize people for defending themselves. (Hat tip to Gates of Vienna.)

Self-defense is a human-right, and in Texas it is your legal right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.

Get Woke, See Civilization Crumble

This is EXACTLY the result that Democrats want. Major crime reports hit 5-year highs across Chicago's lakefront neighborhoods, city data shows. It doesn't get much better inland. - CWB Chicago

With half of 2022 gone, Chicago has a 14% decline in murders compared to last year and a 13% decline compared to 2020. But murder cases are still 29% higher than in 2019 and 20% higher than in 2018. That’s according to the Chicago Police Department’s latest statistical report, called CompStat.

And that concludes the good news.

When you don't prosecute crimes, make it impossible for the police to maintain order, you get more crime and chaos.

The real story, however, is found in the neighborhoods. Index crime in all five police districts lining the lakefront from 31st Street to the north city limits is at a five-year high. All but one are up 10% or more compared to 2018. Most are up 20% or more. Inland districts aren’t faring much better.

The Democrats will blame everyone and everything except their own failed policies, and they will use the fear to grab more power.

Civilization is founded on law and order. Democratic non-prosecutors, like Kim Foxx in Chicago, are actively trying to dismantle that foundation.

FBI - Hunting Criminals or Creating Them?

This is what you get with a political police force.

There are so many details, like the defense team planning to call an FBI confidential informant as a witness to how out-of-control the FBI was. A slew of agents who were fired, or retired, or will just not be on the list of witnesses because of their questionable conduct.

Then came the domestic violence charge for the FBI agent who had been the public face of the case.

On July 18, special agent Richard Trask and his wife came home after a night out at a swingers party. According to a statement she made to local police, they had an argument that culminated with him choking her and bashing her head against a nightstand. Later that night, he was found in his wife’s car in a grocery store parking lot, where he was arrested and later charged with felony assault.

And he hated President Trump so much that he posted an "obscenity-laden tirade" on his F*c*book page.

Funded But Incompetent?

I won't say the article is completely neutral, it isn't. It is solidly anti-gun, anti-gunowner, and it seems to be saying that blacks shouldn't own guns. Though they never come right out and say that. They aren't completely stupid.

Philip Smith, founder and national president of the National African American Gun Association, which filed an amicus brief against the New York law, said the court ruling reinforces the rights of gun owners like Castile.

“When he was shot by that officer, after watching that video, I told our members, make sure you can still carry in your state. The one thing we cannot do is to act cowardly and to shudder in the corner like we don’t deserve to have a gun,” Smith said. “We’re going to stand tall and exercise our Second Amendment rights.”

They talk to all the usual suspects, cops who are worried their job will be harded. You know, like the cops in Uvalde who did nothing, or the cops who screw up and can't be held accountable for their screw ups. It will make that job where they don't have to do anything, and don't have to answer for their mistakes harder somehow.

In the meantime, the Democrats are trying to find ways to subvert the SCOTUS ruling.

Democratic-run states fearing a surge in violence are already trying to counter the court’s ruling and find ways to keep firearms off the streets.

Anyway, I thought the article wasn't bad, for a bunch of professional journalists.

People Want Actual Justice, Not Social Justice

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s prosecution (persecution) of bodega worker Jose Alba looks ever worse as more facts come out. The latest: a newly released video supports his claim that he was attacked first, and so had every right to defend himself — even if one of his attackers, irate ex-con Austin Simon, did end up dead.

But the actual criminals are the real victims, according to Social Justice Warriors like DA Bragg.

But YOU MUST rely on the State (or the City) for everything, inlcuding your personal safety. The fact that they cannot guarantee your personal safety is beside the point. Don't clutter the issue with facts!

So you have people in NYC demanding Stand Your Ground legislation. You have real criminals turned out with depressing regularity, and you have the law-abiding caught in the middle, who if they dare - How dare you! - defend their lives are thrown into Rikers Island prison.

Civilization was nice while it lasted.

Chaos in the Streets of Minneapolis

This is exactly what the Democrats asked for. It remains to be seen if this is what they actually wanted. After July 4th shooting, Minneapolis braces for more gun violence - StarTribune

So no one wants to be a cop in Minneapolis. Are we shocked?

Due to the shortfall of officers, there were 80 officers to respond to calls on July 4th into the morning of the 5th. Which is a lot more than you would find on an average night.

"The Democrats' repeated cries to defund the police and their failure to act on critical public safety measures have turned Minnesota's largest city and surrounding communities into places where criminals feel emboldened to attack and injure law enforcement officers and the public, creating more chaos in our streets," Nick Majerus, spokesman for the Republican Party of Minnesota, said Tuesday in a statement. "This is unacceptable."

Of course nothing will change. The Democrats in Minneapolis will continue to vote for Progressive politicians and their Progressive, soft-on-crime policies. And the results of that shouldn't surprise anyone.

The number of homicides this year is just shy of 2019's year-end total, according to data tracked by the Star Tribune, which includes people killed by police. In a dozen years before the pandemic, the city averaged 17 homicides by this point in the summer — putting the violence of the past two years far above Minneapolis' baseline.

At the time the article linked above was published there had been 47 homicides in Minneapolis in 2022. And say it again - that was just shy of the year-end total for 2019. So no where near as bad as Chicago or Philadelphia or Baltimore, but not good.

As for the staffing shortfall, it won't get fixed soon.

[City Council Member Michael] Rainville, who was elected last year, said the city has struggled to find new officers who want to work in Minneapolis. "We allocated for four classes of 40 recruits; the first class we had 12," he said. "Young people do not want to become police officers. Police have been demonized so much, it's not an attractive career."

The state is trying to help out by assigning more state troopers, and the air division to help out in Minneapolis and crack down on things like street racing. The US attorney has also said he wants to help on certain crimes.

The Democrats wanted fewer cops. MPD went from a staff of 886 to 564 in 2 years. That is a 36% reduction in the force. You can't cut staff like that and not expect to see some result, like longer response time to 911 calls.

I am reminded of the quote from Ian Flemming, from Goldfinger. "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action." I'm not sure why the Democrats are so intent on destroying law and order, but they certainly seem to be doing just that.

An Arsenal

The NY Post doesn't usually go in for this level of insanity, but I guess New Yorkers just can't help themselves. Nevada family secretly living in children's museum had arsenal of weapons

A family was secretly living and storing an assortment of weapons inside a Nevada children’s museum where the mother and father worked, according to authorities.

Three handguns, one rifle (AK-47 style) and an AR pistol. Together with ammo and magazines, a Taser and 3 suppressors. The original story, out of Nevada, does list the weapons, but the Nevada journalists don't call that collection an arsenal. That is reserved for the folks in New York City who haven't got a clue.

And they call the rifle an AK-47, but I doubt it is fully automatic, or someone would have pointed that out.

The suppressors are a problem, and there were 2 counts of possessing a short-barreled rifle. But then the details are not as clear as they could be.

So 3 handguns of unspecified nature. One semiautomatic rifle, and an AR pistol, owned by a family in Nevada has the journalists in NY quaking in their boots.

An Epic Failure of the Victim-selection Process

A Pensacola homeowner will not be charged after firing an AK-47 style rifle at three men accused of home invasion.

"AK-47 style" because a real AK-47 would be fully automatic.

Police have identified two of the people they are connecting with the home invasion.

Shortly after the home invasion, a call came in about a man shot in the head. That man has not been identified as a suspect yet. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said his deputies went to interview him.

“The stories that he’s giving us…as to how he got shot in the head are inconsistent at best,” said Simmons. “In short, we don’t believe him. So what we’re looking at is to determine if this is the third person involved.”

Florida has Stand Your Ground and The Castle Doctrine, so the homeowner will not be charged.

Self-defense is a human-right.

Carjackings in Chicago Set 6 Month Record

The statistics are what caught my attention. 3 in custody after woman is carjacked in Lincoln Park garage; another hijacking reported in Wicker Park - CWB Chicago

So 3 people are in custody. Will they be released as soon as they are in front of a judge? (No bail. Keeping violent people in jail is unfair.)

But on to the statistics.

Hijacking reports continue to outpace last year’s record-setting number, according to CPD data. Police recorded 806 cases during the first six months of the year, up from 760 during the period last year, 472 in the first half of 2020, and 251 as of July 1, 2019.

You see New York can't keep muggers and carjackers and robbers in jail, and as a result crime is increasing. But if you defend yourself, well THAT is not allowed in Progressive New York. You should just be a victim - even if that means getting robbed and stabbed.

“It is important because every bodega owner and clerk across the city is living on edge because of the high rise in crime in our city,” [Debbie Almontaser, co-founder of the Yemeni American Merchants Association,] said. “We just lived through a pandemic where all of these clerks and bodega owners were frontline workers, essential workers.

“And today all of these lifeline businesses are feeling a sense of betrayal and a sense of not belonging to those communities because of the rise in crime,” she said.

Not a progressive stance that the Democrats will embrace.
