The old dam collapsed, on camera (see the video below) in 2019, draining the lake. The infrastructure will be rebuilt. That is almost amazing today. Construction to begin on new Lake Dunlap Dam any day.
And now those dreams are finally a reality, a new dam for Lake Dunlap with an estimated price tag of $35 million.
Doug Harrison is President of the Lake Dunlap Water Control and Improvement District and said the funding for the dam came from the state.
“GBRA has taken out of $40 million loan from the state at virtually zero percent interest that we'll pay back over 30 years,” said Harrison.
The people impacted by the failure will pay to replace the dam. That seems fair, though I'm not sure what the real interest rate should be today. The news story says that they will pay "virtually zero percent." The new dam will also create hydroelectric power, which will contribute to repaying the loan.

Also, you should beware of any metric based on homicide numbers. Emergency medical care is much better than it was even 10 years ago. Cops routinely carry tourniquets, which can save a life. (I should say they reopened a trauma center.)

The guy was taken to a hospital. His wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.
It is sad that he was shot, and maybe he has some type of mental illness, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a threat, or that the threat doesn't get dealt with accordingly.
“I advise citizens of Bulloch County to make all efforts to call 911 and law enforcement when faced with unwanted persons or intruders,” Sheriff Noel Brown said. “However, if you as a homeowner and citizen of Bulloch County reasonably believe you are being physically threatened and are put in a position where you have no other option but to defend yourself and your family with a firearm, then laws are in place for those circumstances.”

He was suffering a "mental health issue" and his family called 911, but he left before police arrived. Fifteen minutes or so later, and half a mile away, there was another 911 call.
According to the sheriff's office, the homeowner called 911 as Pischer was attempting to break into his home and shot and killed him in self-defense.
It is a tragedy that Mr. Pischer was killed, but he was a threat to that homeowner, and the homeowner defended himself from someone breaking in.
Self-defense is human-right.

But keeping violent offenders in jail - or in juvenille detention - is unfair.

Of course, the Non-essentials will claim progress due to a lower YoY homicide count which is solely because of the homicidal, loot-n-shoot, but mostly peaceful last weekend of May 2020.
66 people were killed in May of this year in Chicago. An additional 335 people were wounded. That compares to 47 killed, and 230 wounded in May of 2014.
Of the detailed stats, this is what jumped out at me.

Floridians are almost as heavily armed as Texans. He apparently didn't think that would play a role in the outcome of the robbery.
Two guys were out walking their dog when Otis Brown Junior, the soon-to-be-dead-guy, tried to rob them.
One of them was shot in the shoulder.
The other was grazed by a bullet, and then pulled out a gun in self-defense, shooting the man.
Brown did not survive.
