Wombat-socho - FMJRA 2.0: Home Is Nevada

Still, I’m glad to be hanging out in the Nashville airport, waiting for my flight and listening to a gal who has a voice reminiscent of Dolly Parton’s singing what the bar crowd wants to hear, because I’m going home via Vegas.

Pastor Andrew Isker - Martyrdom in Trashworld: The Psychological and Social Persecution of Christians in Current Year

Our persecution is and will increasingly be much more subtle and feminine. The difference between persecution then and now is like the difference between being bullied by Biff Tannen in Back to the Future and being bullied by the antagonists from Mean Girls. Rather than being brutalized, tortured, or murdered, you will be socially ostracized, you will be cut off from participation in the mainstream economy, your children will be taken from you and brainwashed, and all the while, the Christians who collaborate with the Regime will tell you “it isn’t happening.”

Again from The Other McCain - In Defense of Scott Adams

As a matter of fact, good luck finding any media outlet that has actually quoted Adams — at length, in context, so that readers can judge for themselves whether he said anything “racist.” When I went searching for a transcript, I couldn’t find one, nor did any media sources quote more than a few phrases from his “rant,” and this ought to be your first clue that maybe you’re being misled by the shrieking maniacs in this cancel-culture lynch mob.

And again from The Other McCain - NFL Star: ‘Hey, New York Taxes Suck!’

Buffalo Bills strong safety Jordan Poyer is one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. If you’re a quarterback going up against the Bills, your first read is to figure out where Poyer is, and then throw the ball somewhere else.

Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said a 29-year-old man attempted to rob the business at gunpoint and shot an employee. The 38-year-old employee returned fire, fatally striking the 29-year-old. The suspect was found dead outside the business.

The article calls the guy who defended himself both an employee of the store, and the store owner. Whatever his employment status, he was shot. Community members came to his aid to help stop the bleeding until police arrived. He was take to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Dept. of Energy Concludes Covid Came From Lab

What is the difference between a conspiracy theory and a "likely" intelligence assessment? From the Wall Street Journal: Lab Leak Most Likely Origin of Covid-19 Pandemic, Energy Department Now Says: U.S. agency’s revised assessment is based on new intelligence. It seems the difference is only a matter of time.

As usual the WSJ is behind a paywall, so let's try an alternative. Mediaite brings us the following: JUST IN: U.S. Dept. of Energy Reportedly Concludes Covid Most Likely Came From a Lab Leak

According to the Wall Street Journal, the new finding was released in a classified report provided to the White House and key members of Congress. The Energy Department cited new intelligence as its reason for changing its conclusion.

The Department of Energy now joins the FBI, which has also held that Covid was the result of a lab leak. Four other government agencies and a national security panel dispute that assessment, believing that the outbreak began due to natural transmission. Two other agencies, including the CIA, remain undecided.

I'm not sure why the Dept. of Energy is doing intelligence work around the subject of biolabs in China, but that is apparently the world we live in, where the whole government is spying on the whole world, or something.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion versus Education

DEI And The Reality Of Failing Democrat-Run Unionized Public Schools

You can't have two opposites be true at the same time.

The problem is that there is a fundamental disconnect between two main planks in the progressive platform for our utopian future. In that platform, DEI is plank A. But plank B is that the black children must be forced to attend failing Democrat-run unionized public schools in big cities.

This disconnect sprang onto the front pages in the past few days when something called Project Baltimore analyzed some data from the Maryland Department of Education, and reported that there were 23 schools in the Baltimore City district where not a single student tested at the “proficient” level on the state math exam.

If you look at all of Baltimore, only about 7 percent of students in the city were proficient at math.

Now multiply that across Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and the rest of the cities that have mostly-failing public-education systems, and explain how we will achieve equity in anything that relies on math? Engineering. Science. Accounting. Even the skilled trades - like running a lathe, or reading a blueprint - needs some math.

But this is the 21st Century and facts don't matter. Only feelings matter.

“The Parable of the Teenage Dirtbag”

From The Other McCain: Good News From California

Say hello to 17-year-old Kristopher Baca and, while you’re at it, go ahead and say good-bye, because this juvenile dirtbag is no longer depleting the earth’s supply of oxygen.

Baca was the hit and run driver in California that ran over a Los Angeles mother and her child in a stroller last year. The Soft on Crime Los Angeles DA agreed to a deal that sent Baca to a youth camp for 5 months.

He might have lived longer in jail.

He was shot and killed by an unknown driver while he walked home from a fast-food restaurant. The authorities don't belive this is related to the hit-and-run.

This is a sort of moral lesson that should be taught to children, the Parable of the Teenage Dirtbag, so that they learn what happens to young people who go astray. Even if they happen to be living in a car-thief’s paradise like L.A. where the District Attorney is objectively pro-crime, sooner of later that Big Wheel o’ Karma in the Sky is gonna turn, and the worthless punk will find himself bleeding out in somebody’s driveway.

Lateralus

I'm surprised that I haven't featured this song. I think maybe because friends, some of them anyway, are annoyed by Tool in general, and songs like this in particular, I've been known to use it to torment them. Tool doesn't usually play in 4/4 time. And this song is really not in 4/4 time. Time signatures in the chorus move through the progression of 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8. Danny Carey, the drummer, said somewhere that the song was originally titled 9-8-7 (or something like that) while they were working on it.

Also part of the song is based on the Fibonacci Sequence. 1-1-2-3-5-8 etc. (Each number is the sum of the prior 2 numbers in the sequence.) 987 is the 16th number in the sequence. People have gone on at length about the song, and the math. But I think the music is more important.

Revolver published an article on the album Lateralus at the time of release. Unfortunately they did not provide a mechanism for me to link to specific parts of the article. The bit on today's song is the 5th item in the list.

5. A badass factoid that many Tool fans regard with Biblical importance, some of the lyrics from "Lateralus," if charted syllabically, follow the numeric pattern of Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa's famed Fibonacci Sequence

It goes on from there.

Here is a link to the lyrics. You might want them, though Maynard has very good diction for the most part.

This song is "Lateralus" by Tool. It is the title song to their 2001 album. It was released as the 3rd single ahead of the album's release. It is 9 and a half minutes, more or less, so grab a beverage of your choice.

Mass Transit Serves a Need that No Longer Exists

So of course the people in mass transit want more money. Regional mass transit needs more public investment, RTA chief says - Chicago Sun-Times

This is a story from Chicago, about transit in the Greater Chicago area. The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) includes Cook County and the 5 counties that surround Cook County and Chicago. I would hazard a guess that other cities with large (or small) transit systems are probably seeing similar ridership declines. And they are probably asking for similar bailouts.

“Prior to COVID, 70% of everybody that worked in the central business district took mass transit to work,” Dillard said. “If you want to revitalize the city ... you better help us revitalize mass transit.”

"If you build it, they will come" might be a good motto for a movie about baseball, but I'm not sure it really works as public policy around infrastructure.

Four times more Chicagoans work from home in 2023 than they did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ridership numbers are still recovering, Dillard said.

Translation: "The ridership numbers are in the tank, and we want a bailout."

The central office in a major urban center is a 19th Century solution to a 19th and early 20th Century problem. By the end of the 20th Century, or maybe the start of the 21st, most people didn't need to work that way. Due to inertia it remained the standard model. The pandemic put an end to that practice, and employees do not want to turn the clock back to 1970. Plenty of people found new jobs when threatened with being "forced" to take up their commutes again. (Here is one example of the insanity.)

No matter how much the progressives want people in the cities, their soft-on-crime policies and their high taxes are driving people away. Chicago (and Illinois) has seen that in a big way, both for residents, and businesses with offices in the city.

The Chicago media rarely publishes articles that make the powers that be look bad. And those powers that be are Progressive. Here is a story from last year about crime on public transit in Chicago. From The Chicago Sun-Times: More CTA riders are getting attacked, with violence at a level not seen in over a decade. While the CTA and the RTA are separate, if you have to ride the CTA after coming into the city by commuter train, this will impact people who ride the commuter trains.

The number of violent crimes on the L and buses has jumped to a level not seen in over a decade, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis has found. Through July 19, 488 attacks had been reported on the transit system — the most since 533 during the same period in 2011.

The number of passengers has remained relatively low since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. That means riders are more likely to fall victim to a violent crime today than they were a few years ago, according to the analysis, based on city crime data.

Do we need transit? Probably on some level. Do we need transit on the scale we had it in 1995? Definitely not. Doesn't mean that the people in charge of spending won't waste taxpayer money on it.

Gays Against Groomers

I leave this here without comment. Jen Martinez: I Joined Gays Against Groomers Because I Don't Recognize My Community Anymore

My name is Jen Martinez. I am the co-chapter leader of Gays Against Groomers Long Beach, and this is my Gays Against Groomers origin story:

In June of 2022, I stumbled across Jaimee Michell's first tweet about the organization she was creating, called Gays Against Groomers. As I read through her tweet, I thought “This is me, too!” I felt a sense of relief. It was a shock knowing I wasn’t the only lesbian who felt like the mainstream alphabet soup had gone way too far.

It isn't long, so you should read the whole thing.

As for Gays Against Groomers:

Our community that once preached love and acceptance of others has been hijacked by radical activists who are now pushing extreme concepts onto society, specifically targeting children in recent years.

The overwhelming majority of gay people are against what the community has transformed into, and we do not accept the political movement pushing their agenda in our name.

Gays Against Groomers directly opposes the sexualization and indoctrination of children. This includes drag queen story hours, drag shows involving children, the transitioning and medicalization of minors, and gender theory being taught in the classroom.

Kavanaugh Accuser Admits To Lying

Because the media ignores things that don't fit their narrative. Kavanaugh Accuser Admits To Lying, Faces Criminal Charges | ZeroHedge

Editor's note via HeadlineUSA: The story below is based on events that originally happened in 2018, as reported at the time by Business Insider. Headline USA (then known as Liberty Headlines) also covered it at the time. It recirculated over the weekend via social media, and Headline USA took the bait. Several other prominent news aggregators have since picked it up.

As noted by The Beltway Report, the story garnered little traction during the actual aftermath of the Kavanaugh hearings, and so we have decided to keep it posted in order to remind everyone of the false pretenses that many on the Left continue to push as fact surrounding Justice Kavanaugh.

Judy Monro-Leighton, one of three women who accused now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, was found to have lied during a congressional investigation and is now being charged with making materially false statements and obstruction.

Remember this the next time the media and the Democrats (but I repeat myself) try to run some character assassination against a conservative. It shouldn't be long to wait.

Marilyn Manson Accuser Retracts Statement

Don't expect the media - that was quick to jump on the Maryily Manson is Bad™ - to cover this recanting of the accusations. Marilyn Manson’s accuser recanted under oath, claimed she was ‘manipulated’ by Evan Rachel Wood: Court document

One of Marilyn Manson’s accusers recanted under oath, asserting that she had been “manipulated” by actress Evan Rachel Wood and others to falsely accuse him of sexual abuse, a new court filing alleges.

Brian Warner (AKA Marilyn Manson) wants to use a sworn statement from Ashley Morgan Smithline in his lawsuit against Wood and Ilma Gore.

The rocker sued Wood and Gore last year in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that the women joined in a conspiracy to derail his career by falsely painting him as a rapist and an abuser.

Disney Says You're Racist for Not Liking Bad Special Effects

Ryan Kinel is angry. At least he's angry when he's on YouTube, somehow I doubt he is that angry all the time. Though in this case the schadenfreude he serves up is exquisite.

Disney is about to release a race-swapped, live-action version of the 1989 animated film, The Little Mermaid. (That was based on a Danish fairy tale, but cultural appropriation isn't an issue in that direction.) The 2 trailers that they released have been hammered on YouTube, to the point where Disney disabled comments.

Now I'm sure some of the comments were about race, but I'm equally sure that most of the comments were about what has plagued Marvel and everything else coming out under the Disney logo, including this movie, horrible computer graphics. In whichever trail I saw - I don't really care about this movie - things were either very dark or just bad. Making things very dark, or having a lot of rain - to blur things - is a cheap way to cover up for bad special effects.

So of course, with no comments on the trailers, Disney has done what they have done with every woke release in the past year or two. From The Woman King on down, if you don't like our sh*tty computer graphics, our bad writing, and worse acting, it is because you are just racist/homophobic/whatever. It was a defense that worked some when it was new. (Hint: You were NOT fighting racism by going to see the first Black Panther movie, you were giving money to a couple of multinational corporations.) People are not buying their BS anymore. Literally, not buying it, as in not buying tickets to movies.

This is Ryan Kinel's video Disney PANICS Over Little Mermaid Backlash | Halle Bailey Says You're RACIST If You Don't Like It!

Missouri AG to Oust Soros-backed District Attorney

About time someone did something about the train-wreck that is the Justice System. Missouri attorney general’s ultimatum to Kim Gardner: Resign or face removal from office

“It is time for the Circuit Attorney to go and for the rule of law and justice to prevail,” [Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey] said.

The final straw seems to have been when a guy, who broke bond rules 50 times while awaiting trial, was still free when he hit a high-school volleyball player, causing her to lose her legs.

Something needs to be done, because Justice is broken in this country.

No Consequences for Don Lemon

Did you really think a Leftist news organization would fire a black anchor/reporter for insulting a Republican woman? Don Lemon Back at CNN After Sexist Comments -- With a Caveat - TheStreet

If you thought Don Lemon was going to be impacted in any meaningful way, I have a bridge you may be interested in purchasing. But seriously, look up the racial slurs hurled at Dr. Rice when she was part of the Bush Administration. None of those reporters or others - some of the political cartoons were disgusting - suffered any repercussions.

CNN "takes this very seriously," or something, so they will send Don to a Reeducation camp training program. He will be off TV for a few days - with pay - and then he will be back - he probably is back by now - because if it weren't for double standards, they'd have no standards at all.

'The View' and Misinformation

What do you expect from daytime television? 'The View' is the biggest source of misinformation in America

NewsBusters’ Nicholas Fondacaro crunched the numbers and found the show delivered 36 legal notes in 2022 alone. The list, which he provided exclusively to The Post, includes apologies and clarifications on everything from claiming Ivanka Trump was at the Capitol Jan. 6 (she wasn’t) to complaining Russian soprano Anna Netrebko hadn’t denounced the Ukraine war (she had) to insisting Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh were “credibly accused” of “sexual harassment and sexual assault.”

So more than 2 per month, less than 1 per week. Have they been banned from Twitter or F*c*book for disinformation? I didn't think so.

There are some examples, including the hosts undermining retractions even as they are giving retractions.

Liberals/Progressives are never penalized for lying. It's what they do. ("If you like your doctor...")

Early Signs of DeSantis Derangement Syndrome

Rick Moran at PJ Media has the details on the reaction of Chicago Democrats to the presence of Ron DeSantis. 'DeSantis the Destroyer' Blows Up Chicago's Mayoral Race

Enter the superhero. Ron DeSantis the Destroyer will visit the Windy City on Monday to address the city’s largest — and very powerful — police union. The Destroyer will come to blow up the mayor’s race. And he’s already succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.

Garcia nearly got a bad case of apoplexy when he heard that DeSantis would visit and speak to the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police — the very same group that endorsed Vallas for mayor. Garcia called on Vallas to “publicly reject” DeSantis’ visit and said DeSantis presented a “danger” to Illinois.

How is he a danger? Well, he's not a Democrat, and he is talking about the problems in Democrat run cities.

Mayor Lightfoot was screeching the most, possibly because she is running 3rd place in the polls, but it being Chicago there is plenty of opportunity for vote fraud. (Vote early, vote often.)

It’s amazing to see the effect of a visit by a national Republican leader to this radical left city. DeSantis should be enormously pleased with himself. Only Trump could have gotten a more hysterical reaction. His speech Monday will be sympathetic to cops who have to work in that crazy town.

Canadians Are Still F-ed Over Self-defense

But then they don't live in a free country. Man Faces Murder Charges After Shooting Suspect Robbing His House, Says Lawyer

A guy broke into his home. He shot that guy, and is now charged with 2nd degree murder.

While America's self-defense and "stand your ground" laws are well-known (and perhaps infamous), in other countries around the world, those matters are less clear-cut. Sections 34 and 35 of Canada's Criminal Code say someone is not guilty of an offense if they respond to force or threat of force against them or a person they're protecting, or repel someone entering without permission or threatening their property. The defensive act must be "reasonable in the circumstances." A number of recent incidents have tested Canada's self-defense laws as they relate to a homeowner's ability to protect their property. When police believe someone used excessive force in self-defense, people can be, and often are, prosecuted.

So the Monday-morning quarterbacks almost always charge the guy. Especially in the "progressive" parts of Canada, which isn't always just the cities.

There is more. And whatever the Canadian authorities may think, Self-defense is a human-right.

New York Times and the Truth about Masks

The short answer to this question is "No." from Mediaite: NYT Op-Ed Covers Explosive Study Finding Mask Mandates Useless: ‘Will Any Lessons Be Learned?’

Karens will go on being Karens, just about something else, and governments will go on grabbing power, because that is what they do. And the WEF will continue to be whatever the hell they are.

Here is the truth, not "reported" by they NY Slimes, it is referenced in an op-ed column. I think that is so they can be free to ignore (and not follow) the science that they don't like.

To briefly summarize, the Cochrane study conducted by Oxford University epidemiologist Tom Jefferson and colleagues, is a meta-analysis covering dozens of studies covering several years of data on masking, and concluded that, as Jefferson put it in an interview with Maryanne Demasi, “there is just no evidence that they make any difference. Full stop.”

The link above is not to the NY Times, because that has disappeared behind a paywall, and I have no intention of giving them any of my money for any reason.

So masks did nothing good, and we know masks did bad things. Will anyone be called to answer for this non-science?

Invincible

Floor Jansen is one of my favorite singers. She is usually singing Heavy Metal with the band Nightwish. There are some other projects in the past as well, all Metal. She is producing a solo album, due out in a month or so. I don't think this signifies anything about Nightwish, though who can say. Marko Hietala's retirement certainly took the industry by surprise.

I said usually singing Heavy Metal, because I don't hear that in this song. I just hear her amazing voice.

Here is a bit of what she has to say about the song, from the video description. (Link is below)

I am thrilled to share my new single, "Invincible," with all of you. Originally written specifically for the Invictus Games, this song holds a very special place in my heart. As someone who has witnessed the effects of PTSD in my close circle, I wanted to create a powerful anthem that brings hope and strength to those who are struggling with this condition. [SNIP]

I hope that 'Invincible' will remind you that even in the darkest of times, there is always the possibility of coming out stronger. You are not alone, and no matter how difficult the journey may be, there is always hope for healing and self-discovery.

The lyrics can be found at this link, or they are in the video if you turn on closed captions.

This song is "Invincible" by Floor Jansen. It was released as single in the middle of January in support of her upcoming album Paragon. That is scheduled to be released on March 24th.

Video shows the off-duty officer, identified as Chicago Police Officer Precious Dunn, interrupt what appears to be an altercation between four people. Authorities at the time stated Dunn was attempting to stop a robbery.

The footage shows three of the individuals walking away from Dunn. One person, identified as 39-year-old Leevon Smith, stays behind and is seen talking with the off-duty officer.

As Dunn starts walking away, the video shows Smith grab her from behind. A struggle ensues.

As Colion Noir says in the video below...

God made men. Samuel Colt made me equal.

Without access to the means, the tools, of self-defense most women would be overpowered by most men. The old and the infirm would be at the mercy of the young and the violent, and anyone could be overpowered by multiple attackers.

Mr. Noir goes into the details about why would this guy attack someone who just helped him? Watch the video to find out.

US Military Emails Leaked for 2 Weeks

Someday government will take security seriously, but this in not that day. Sensitive US military emails spill online | TechCrunch

Why are sensitive military emails not end-to-end encrypted? And who is responsible for this kind of crap?

The exposed server was hosted on Microsoft’s Azure government cloud for Department of Defense customers, which uses servers that are physically separated from other commercial customers and as such can be used to share sensitive but unclassified government data. The exposed server was part of an internal mailbox system storing about three terabytes of internal military emails, many pertaining to U.S. Special Operations Command, or USSOCOM, the U.S. military unit tasked with conducting special military operations.

The server was "misconfigured" so it was access was available without a password.

The breach was disclosed to Tech Crunch by a white-hat security researcher, and TC informed the DoD.

The server was packed with internal military email messages, dating back years, some of which contained sensitive personnel information. One of the exposed files included a completed SF-86 questionnaire, which are filled out by federal employees seeking a security clearance and contain highly sensitive personal and health information for vetting individuals before they are cleared to handle classified information.

Now apparently no truly classified info was involved, but what was involved was bad enough to have been leaked over a stupid screw up.

Everybody makes mistakes. Humans are not perfect. That is why you put procedures in place to check and double check things. Once notified it took more than 24 hours for the DoD to secure the server, which they are blaming on the holiday weekend.

Or maybe I should say, "people and organizations who value security" put procedures in place... That quoted phrase apparently doesn't include large swaths of the .gov and military. (Have you ever looked at CISA directives on software updates? Apparently some parts of the .gov are going years without updating software that is known to be vulnerable and known to be exploited because, "You IT people always want to update something. Everything is fine!")

MSNBC is Worried About the Wrong Things

Only those things that support their narative are deemed worthy of coverage. MSNBC’s ‘Right-Wing’ Obsession

The Other McCain brings us more on MSNBC's fixation on...

January 6 now! January 6 tomorrow! January 6 forever!

While the whole thing is interesting, the statistics illuminate the issue that I'm interested in, just not the way that MSNBC wants to portray the current state of America.

According to the FBI, the U.S. had 22,900 homicides in 2021, the most recent year for which such national statistics are available. You see that 25 “extremist” murders is a tiny fraction of this annual total, barely a tenth of one percent (0.109% to be more precise). Of America’s murder victims in 2021, 99.891% were not killed by “extremists.”

Just to put that number into further context, in 2022, Chicago reported 737 homicides, Philadelphia had 526 homicides, Baltimore had 333 homicides, New Orleans had 277 homicides, and St. Louis had 200 homicides. These five cities accounted for a combined total of 2,073 homicides last year — but because none of them were motivated by “extremism,” MSNBC doesn’t care.

And yes, of course January 6th and Right-wing Extremist Murders are connected. In the minds of the Einsteins who work at MSNBC.

There is much more, and you should go read the whole thing.

Do You Believe in Freedom?

Then you might be a Right-wing Extremist. Why the word 'freedom' is such a useful rallying cry for protesters | CBC Radio

Your tax-dollars at work: Canadian Edition.

Where would we be without experts?

It's also a term that has thrived among far-right groups, said Perry, one of a number of experts who say the presence of far-right groups in Canada is growing.

"Violent Freedom" is anything that opposes the Woke mob or the authoritarian rule they support, and is "bad."

The Leftists don't quite manage to quote Nineteen Eighty-Four, but it is close in a couple of places. And the Left isn't happy about the spread of freedom-loving, independent thinking people to Canada. (This is a story from CBC after all.)

"It's been taking a lot of people by surprise to see people in Canada, who often seem so much more accepting of social interdependence, to start pushing back against it with the language of individual freedom," said Anker.

Which should probably tell you that the Left has overstepped by a lot. (Hat tip to Russell Brand.)

Another Failure of the Victim-selection Process

Maybe he thought no one would be home at 4:30 in the afternoon. Oh, and people in Georgia are also heavily armed. Suspect shot by homeowner while breaking into DeKalb Co. home found dead in backyard, police say | WSB-TV

Investigators said the suspect forced his way into the home when he was confronted by the homeowner. [SNIP]

The homeowner fired his gun at the suspect and shot him, then the suspect ran out of the back door.

The guy was found in the backyard by police when they arrived a short time later.

While there is much more of an investigation to do, and the police don't make decisions about charges, Georgia has a pretty solid history of recognizing your right to defend yourself. That's because self-defense is a human-right.

Equal outcomes means no one can exceed at everything. To Increase Equity, School Districts Eliminate Honors Classes - WSJ

UPDATE: The WSJ article has disappeared behind a Paywall. Try this: School Districts Are Dropping Honors Classes In The Name Of Equity. I am not rewriting the post. The quotes below are from the link above.

Another WSJ article not behind a paywall.

A group of parents stepped to the lectern Tuesday night at a school board meeting in this middle-class, Los Angeles-area city to push back against a racial-equity initiative. The high school, they argued, should reinstate honors English classes that were eliminated because they didn’t enroll enough Black and Latino students.

The district earlier this school year replaced the honors classes at Culver City High School with uniform courses that officials say will ensure students of all races receive an equal, rigorous education.

Translation: No one will be permitted to be better in math than the person who can't understand fractions.

The parental pushback in Culver City mirrors resistance that has taken place in Wisconsin, Rhode Island and elsewhere in California over the last year in response to schools stripping away the honors designation on some high school classes.

I'm sure this was in either Fahrenheit 451 or one of Ayn Rand's novels (The Fountainhead?). If you know which please leave a comment.

So since no one will be allowed to be good at math, or science, or ... in high school, no one will be allowed to be good at engineering or medicine in college and beyond. That's not fair!

So don't hold out any hope that bridges will stay up, or the health care will be any good in future. That is not EQUITY. That is different people having differing abilities and getting different outcomes in life and that is NOT FAIR! Or something

Civilization was nice while it lasted.

"Gay Activist Couple" and their Adopted Boys

And people still deny the existence of evil. From The Other McCain - Cruel and Unusual: Gay Activist Couple Allegedly Pimped Out Adopted Boys

I don't think I need to include any details.

Phrases like “alleged” and “according to a sworn affidavit” are necessary in journalism, but let’s not waste much effort about that whole “presumed innocence” business, because when child molesters record video of their crimes, this tends to make conviction a near-certainty.

I don't hold with the Other McCain's "near certainty." Though to be fair I really don't know anything about the DA in the area around Atlanta. I don't think one the soft-on-crime DAs is in Atlanta, though who can say. My skepticism is rooted mostly in Chicago, where the DA refused to prosecute a murder that was caught on video, because her office demanded "more evidence."

Justice? As V said in V for Vendetta, Madam Justice has apparently taken a vacation, at least in many of our cities.

Armed Neighbor Stops Stabbing Spree

He couldn't stand by and do nothing. Union City neighbor shoots man he witnessed stabbing woman

Union City Police are praising a neighbor they say stopped a man who stabbed three women early Saturday morning. The man being hailed a good Samaritan spoke exclusively with FOX 5 Atlanta after the incident.

"I just couldn’t sit there and watch and hear what was going on," Josh Dobbs told FOX 5's Kim Leoffler.

When he heard the screams, he knew roughly where they were coming from. He grabbed a firearm and went to intervene.

"As the male subject was assaulting these female subjects with the knife, an onlooker saw the assault taking place," Cpt. Brooks said. "He stepped up and stopped the threat. He did shoot the suspect."

The guy who got shot died from his injuries.

Police believe he did the right thing, and they are thanking him for intervening.

So Georgia has not morphed into New Jersey or New York.

Self-defense, and defense of others, is a human-right. (Hat tip to The DaleyGator)

Civilization Is Built on Security

If the government won't provide that, then the people will, even in the Blue Cities. 2nd Amendment steps in after cops step back in wake of defund movement in Chicago | Fox News

An 80-year-old man living near Chicago's O’Hare airport was left "battered" late last month when two intruders knocked on his door and entered his home.

The elderly man was a legal gun owner and managed to fire off a shot, hitting one intruder and sending the other running for cover.

The incident is one of dozens that have played out in the Windy City in recent years. Legally armed citizens are taking matters into their own hands, thwarting attacks and other crimes.

I could quote so much of this article, but I will only add this one other bit. A bit about people realizing that the government has decided to not enforce the law, because keeping violent offenders in jail is unfair.

"It's the reason why you've seen the increase in gun sales," said John Lott, president and founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center. "Because people realize that the police and law enforcement broadly isn't being allowed — the criminal justice system isn't being allowed — to go and do its job.

And while I encourage you to click thru for the rest, I will note that they included references to older stories on the same subject. The one I am most interested in is this story from July 2020: Arrests in Chicago plummet to historic lows as crime rises and police admittedly pull back: 'No way'

Chicago police have arrested the fewest number of suspects in at least 20 years amid a crime wave that has continued raging in the city since 2020.

This is not a new issue, and it won't go away in month or two. Mostly, politicians on the Left have conspired to gut police protections in the Cities, and in a few places, like New York and Illinois they are pushing their soft-on-crime policies on entire states.

Politicians and the media like to pretend that the man-in-the-street is an idiot, but they are not idiots. And it is becoming very clear that they will defend what is theirs.

As for the basis of civilization being security, that is not my idea, nor is it a new idea. As far as I know, Hobbes started it with his State of War, which exists after the breakdown of law and order. Apparently he first wrote about in in De Cive (1642), but I have only read The Leviathan (1651). After the system of Justice has failed. There is nothing to keep the bad guys in check, or punish them after the fact. Civilization is only built by people who believe that they can enjoy the fruits of their labor. If you believe that everything you have can be taken from you, you will not invest much in the future. Without that certainty of security, there are "no arts, no letters, no society, and, which is worst of all, continual fear and danger of violent death, and the life of man solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."

A Pillow Of Winds

So I was listening to another Rick Beato video, in which he was discussing the question, "What is Pink Floyd's Greatest Song?" (You can find a link below, if you're interested.) This isn't the song he selected...

I hadn't thought of this song in a very long time. Since I don't have vinyl and a turntable, I don't listen to Floyd the way it was intended anymore, that is an album at a time, from beginning to end. Meddle usually is limited to "Echoes," with occasionally "Seamus" when I want the howling dog for some kind of point on social media. But this is an excellent song, in the psychedelic genre, which is where Floyd got started, after all.

This song is "A Pillow of Winds" by Pink Floyd from the 1971 album Meddle.

Armed Citizen Stops Another Mall Shooting

Maybe he thought there wouldn't be any law-abiding gun owners. Concealed Handgun permit holder stops mass public shooter at a mall in El Paso, Texas

A permit holder stopped a shooter who had shot four people and threatened others. Interestingly, many initial news reports had credited an off-duty police officer with stopping the attack (also here). The suspect apparently had a stolen gun.

Of course if places like New York have their way, this kind of thing could never happen in that state because there will be no place to legally carry a concealed weapon. Do they want more people to die? It's a good thing that Texas isn't like that.

The fact that the bad guy was stopped by an armed citizen was apparently ignored by the police during their initial statement to the press. Because that doesn't polish the image of the police department, but the facts came out later.

This is Colion Noir's video, which is really the point of this post: Armed Citizen Stops Mall Shooting Once Again In El Paso, Texas
