The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received the 911 call at about 4:34 p.m. on Monday from a homeowner reporting he had just shot a burglar who had forcibly entered the residence in Cutten. The homeowner reported that a man had come into the house without permission and that he fired a round at the intruder before the intruder ran off.
Cops located the suspect a short time later, and had him taken to a local hospital for "non-life threatening" wounds. After treatment he was taken to the county lockup.
Humbolt County, California, is about 165 miles north of San Francisco. It is right on the Pacific coast.
The bad guy in this case is facing charges of burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized entry of an occupied home, and violating parole.
The homeowner was not arrested because even in California, self-defense is a legal right, and a human right.
Deputies did not arrest the resident, saying the information gathered at the scene indicated he fired because he feared for his safety.
