Fires that you can't fight, because adding water creates more of an environmental hazard. Evacuation of large areas due to toxic smoke. A fire department tied up for a long time. Toxic waste removal. Special cleaning requirements for the protective gear worn by firefighters.
This is the video "EV Fire" from South Metro Fire Rescue Centennial, Colorado.
Guidelines that we've developed uh in collaboration with the EPA. We found that the runoff by putting water onto these fires, the water mixes with the products of combustion, the smoke, and creates more of an environmental impact than it does just letting it burn.
The video is 9 minutes.
