Don't Threaten People In Their Own Home

You probably shouldn't threaten people anywhere, and certainly not in Texas. Homeowner shoots intruder on Ingram Road - KENS 5

The suspect, a man in his 40s, was banging on his front door and making threats. The homeowner fired shots through the door, hitting the male suspect. He was taken to University Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound.

The police didn't arrest the homeowner, but then police don't have the final say about charges. And this did take place in San Antonio, Texas.

Self-defense is a human right.

We are instructed to identify your target, know what's downrange. Was the homeowner able to identify his target? Should the homeowner have to 'break perimeter', to remove a physical barrier between him and the perp(s), to increase the risk to his person and/or others in his residence? Is that even a requirement for a righteous shoot?

If not able to identify the perp through a peephole or exterior came, would leaving off from point of contact to look through a window be prudent? If in the home alone, this would leave undefended the point of contact/point of entry.
Would warning the perp(s) to leave or be shot through the door be sufficient to avoid legal entanglement? Would calling out a warning even be wise?

    Lots of questions.

  2. Shooting through a door is questionable, both legally and at times tactically. Unless the bad guy is shooting into the dwelling through the door....
