What Were You Doing at 15 Years of Age?

I'm guessing shooting strangers wasn't on the menu. This is another sign that society is breaking down in Chicago. 15-year-old charged with shooting tourist during ‘teen takeover’ - CWB Chicago

Streeterville used to be one of the nicest neighborhoods in Chicago. Close to what we used to call The Magnificent Mile. Dining. Movies. Parks. Lake shore. Expensive condos with views.

A 15-year-old boy is responsible for shooting a tourist during a “teen takeover” in Streeterville on March 9, Chicago police say. A U.S. Marshals task force arrested the boy near the 87th Street Red Line station around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Teen takeover is apparently the new term for Wilding. Large groups of teens, take public transit to an area and generally wreak havoc. One of the many reasons most people I know now avoid the city.

This is the story from CWB Chicago from the day after the incident. Woman shot after gunman opens fire during teen brawl in Streeterville - CWB Chicago

A woman is recovering after someone fired shots among a group of teenagers in Streeterville on Sunday evening, according to police and witnesses. Residents of the area have expressed concern about so-called “large group” incidents in the neighborhood for over a year.

That kind of thing isn't an isolated incident. Streeterville Chaos Portends a Summer of Tumult in Downtown Chicago

When the weather gets warm, the pests come out, and in Chicago that includes not just insects, but “exuberant” youth. Another weekend in Chicago, another teen mob, another community left shaken. This time, the epicenter was Streeterville, a neighborhood that has now become a recurring backdrop for lawlessness masked as “gatherings.” What unfolded near Columbus and Illinois was not a protest, not a block party, and certainly not youthful exuberance. It was disorder — punctuated by brawls, arrests, and gunfire.

Hundreds of teens swarmed the area on Friday night [March 28th], disrupting businesses and alarming residents. Fights broke out, one teenager fired a gun into the crowd, and a 15-year-old was grazed by a bullet.

I'm going miss living in a civilized society.
