There is something about today's song that reminds me of singers like Pat Benatar, and not just the vocalist, but the way the song is written and performed. This song would have been at home on a 1980s Rock & Roll station.
The Gems is a band that was formed when vocalist Guernica Mancini, drummer Emlee Johansson and guitarist/bassist Mona “Demona” Lindgren left the Metal band Thundermother. I featured one song by Thundermother some time ago, but overall I never liked their stuff. Apparently there were some differences of opinion about the future of that band, and now we have The Gems.
Their debut album only came out January 26th, so it will be some time before the verdict is in on them. Something sounds more Rock & Roll about this song than Metal to me. Time will tell if they become a regular listen, but I do like this song. Here's a link to the lyrics, though I don't think you will need them.
This song is "Like a Phoenix" by The Gems from their January 2024 album Phoenix, though the song was released in the summer of 2023 as a single, and did quite well on the German charts.
