I'm Shocked That Lack of Consequences Doesn't Change Behavior

Shocked I tell you! Recidivism rates for NYC’s burglars and thieves soar amid bail reform: NYPD data.

"No Cash Bail" is a catch phrase that sounds good to Progressives. It isn't fair to keep people in jail. Or something.

The problem of course is that it is also not fair to the victims of crime. (And no, I'm not that shocked.)

Roughly one in every five crooks busted for burglary or theft in New York last year got re-arrested on a felony charge within 60 days after being put back on the streets, NYPD figures obtained by The Post show.

The alarming statistics reveal increases in alleged recidivism as high as three times what they were in 2017 — before New York’s controversial bail-reform law took effect in 2020.

And I'm shocked that politicians would LIE about what they are doing.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice professor Eugene O’Donnell, a former NYPD cop, said state lawmakers “didn’t level with people when they did bail reform.” Off-duty NYPD officer being robbedAn off-duty NYPD officer was held up at gunpoint, and his police ID and gun were stolen.

“Bail reform means you can shoot someone on Friday night and be back on the street on Sunday,” he said.

This policy sounded good to Progressives, but it was always clear it was going to lead to an increase in crime, which is apparently exactly what the Democrats in charge of the Blue Cities and Blue states want. Chaos in the streets.
