Yet Another Failure of the Victim-selection Process

And Arkansas is not New Jersey. Police: Burglar shot by PB homeowner.

"At this time, it appears that the homeowner shot a burglar in their home," stated a news release from the Pine Bluff Police Department. "An update will be made if any charges are filed."

The guy who got shot died at the scene.

Self-defense is a human-right.

Philadelphia PD's Hiring Problems

Is anyone shocked that people don't want to be cops or work in 911? Police struggle to hire officers and 911 dispatchers as homicides and shootings increase

People have been having trouble reaching 911 in a "reasonable amount of time." And because of that, they hang up and dial again.

Once you get to talk to an 911 operator, then you have to wait for police.

“I called 911, they never picked up. I hung up and called again and then they picked up. The police came about 20 minutes later,” said [Roz] Pichardo, who added that doctors ordered her to undergo medical treatment for a month to ward off infection.

That was in reaction to an attack with a syringe.

While the PD is only down about 6 percent from its "authorized headcount," I'm not sure that statistic tells the whole story. Philadelphia has seen an increase in crime - and requirements for police services - in an era where politicians think it is a good idea to cut police departments' budgets. And then wonder why could 911 response time be increasing.

To solve the 911 dispatcher problem they are requiring weekend, overtime shifts. That way leads to burnout, but they need people to answer the phones. Of course if the extra overtime drives people to quit, they will be in even worse shape.

Florida Woman - a close relative of Florida Man

There must be something in the water. Naked woman drove golf cart through Florida police standoff

Officers were trying to diffuse the standoff with an armed teen on Sunday when 28-year-old Jessica Smith allegedly drove through the middle of the crime scene in Dunedin, west of Tampa, just after midnight.

Smith, who had nothing to do with the standoff, was in her birthday suit and reeked of alcohol when she rolled through the law enforcement perimeter.

Florida? Check. Alcohol? Check. Insane behavior? Check.

This is Peak Florida, at least for today.

He Was Asked To Leave. Repeatedly

He should have left. Spartanburg: Homeowner shoots, kills man on porch

The witnesses told police that the man, in his mid-20s and wearing dark clothing and a hooded sweatshirt, walked into their front yard and approached the homeowners, according to Littlejohn.

They told police the man was acting "very strange" and did not leave immediately but, after asking him to leave several times, he eventually left.

Moments later he returned and approached the home, again, Littejohn said.

That's when he wouldn't leave. And approached the door with his hands in his pockets.

The guy who would not leave, died, standing in the doorway from gunshot wounds to the chest.

Self-defense is a human-right.

The Complete Lack of Compassion for Your Fellow Man in NOLA

The aftermath of Hurricane Ida is bringing out the worst in people. New Orleans man booked with murder after surrendering in Metairie gas station fatal shooting, JPSO says

It is not too surprising that there are long lines at the filling stations. People need gas for cars and to run generators.

This guy cut in front of a line of cars, because he is too important to actually wait in line like everyone else. And then he shot and killed someone who had the nerve to call him out for it.

A 20-year-old New Orleans man was booked with second-degree murder Friday (Sept. 3), after admitting he fatally shot another motorist he cut in front of a Metairie gas station line, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said.

The dead guy, may or may not have been carrying a pocket knife, possibly making this a case of self-defense. The only description of what took place before the shooting is a "verbal altercation." In other words, he got called out for being a jackass, and he didn't like it, and so he shot the guy. Allegedly.

So why did he cut in line? No explanation has been offered in any article I've seen, and I have looked. I have to conclude taht he cut in line because he thought that he was too good to stand in line, like everyone else in Louisiana who needs gasoline. In other words, he was being a jackass, and now he is likely to spend at least some time in jail, because he was in too much of a hurry to wait in line.

Steve Buscemi and the 9/11 Recovery Effort

Steve Buscemi I found this fairly interesting. The Famous Actor You Didn’t Know Was a Hero Firefighter in the Wake of 9/11.

The destruction of the World Trade Center left lower Manhattan in such ruin that it took nine months and an army of volunteers to complete the search for the remains of the deceased. Among the first people to volunteer in the recovery effort was actor Steve Buscemi.

He had been a firefighter in New York before he became an actor. Click thru.

Summer in the City

From HeyJackass! we get the review of summer in Chicago. Summer Lovin’.

This year’s Summer Shooting Season may not have nailed bucket number six as it did last year, but the tally will certainly qualify for a year’s supply of Rice-A-Roni.

Summer, according to HeyJackass! runs from noon on the Friday of Memorial Day, through 6 AM on the Tuesday following Labor Day.

If you don't recognize the reference in that quote, look up Bozo's Circus and The Grand Prize Game. People usually say that Mayor Lightfoot looks more like Beetlejuice, but she is certainly in charge of the circus.

The total for this year was 300 killed, with an additional 1,476 wounded. Not quite as bad as last year, but compare that to 2014 when there were 158 killed, and 848 wounded. Remember those stats when they try to tell you that Crime Is Down. And they will try.

Of the 300 people killed in Chicago over the summer, 2 were killed by police. That is 0.67 percent. Of the 1776 people shot in total, 5 were shot by police. That is 0.28 percent. I know; math is hard.

Click thru for other stats like the number of Selfies, #ShotInTheAss, breakdown of victim by race and sex, etc.

And just because - "Summer in the City" by The Lovin' Spoonful. It was a single in 1966.

Australia Builds Its Version of the Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall was built to prevent East Germans from leaving East Germany. Australia travel law bans residents of other countries from leaving - Rebel News

Actually, Australia is building multiple versions of the Berlin Wall.

Australia is preventing its citizens from leaving the country, even if they are residents of other countries.

The states in Australia are also dividing the country, and restricting travel. Which is more like the old Warsaw Pact in general, than East Germany in particular, but that is another story.

Australian citizens and permanent residents are banned from leaving the country and are required to apply for an exemption to do so, which may be granted for employment, study, or compassionate reasons — such as visiting dying relatives or attending family funerals outside the country. However, if an Australian citizen is normally a resident of another country, they were automatically allowed to leave — at least until the amendment to the travel law went into effect.

They can request an exemption before the return, but Australia has been known - in the age of COVID-19 - to ignore previously issued exemptions to travel. Well, the states have ignored exemptions. I guess the federal government was feeling left out.

In the last 18 months, Australia has gone from being a free, Western democracy, to being a country where travel is restricted, the parliament of at least one state has not met, and that state is being run like a dictatorship, and the cops are happy to put on their jackboots and swing into action. Oh, and government is trying to silence any news organization who reports on anything that the government doesn't like. Sounds a lot like the old East Germany to me.

My guess is that the next step will actually be the creation of something akin to the Ministerium für Staatssicherheit, or the Stasi. (That is the Ministry for State Security, for those of you who don't remember the Cold War.)

It is a sad day for the West.

The "How Dare You Live Without Me Attitude" Never Works

This was also a failure of the victim-selection process. Sheriff: Home intruder shot, killed in Mt. Healthy

Mount Healthy is a city in Hamilton County, Ohio, about 10 miles north of downtown Cincinnati.

Whenever I read a story about "ex-boyfriend breaks into ex-girlfriend's home" I know it isn't going to end well for someone.

Officials said Lyle assaulted a female resident in the house before being confronted by a male resident who shot Lyle.

He died at the scene.

There are damn few details in the story, but I think we can work out some of the details from the outline.

He could have gone out for drinks with friends. He could have stayed home and watched TV. He could have done any number of things that aside from assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Instead he embarked on a course of action that was guaranteed to have a bad outcome for someone. I'm sure he didn't think that he would be the one to pay any price.

No arrests were made.

Self-defense is a human-right, and still mostly your legal right in Ohio.

Because Keeping Violent Offenders in Jail is Unfair

It is certainly unfair to the witness she (allegedly) stabbed. TX murder suspect's bond revoked after allegedly stabbing witness

Felisha Washington, 27, was ordered back to jail Friday after she allegedly stabbed a woman who could have been called to the witness stand in her trial for the murder of Ramona “Dede” Jones, 51, news station FOX 26 reported.

“This individual who was on bond for murder was outside of her residence, outside of her curfew hours, and had some pretty significant contact with a witness on that murder,” Sean Teare, assistant district attorney for Harris County, told the outlet.

"Pretty significant contact?" That's weasel wording even for a prosecutor.

So she's back in jail with bond revoked.

This is "Wind in the Trees" by Joe Satriani from the 2010 album Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards. Today's song is almost 8 minutes, so grab a beverage.

Happy Labor Day - Chicago Edition

HeyJackass! brings us Summer's Finale

Labor Day weekend means it’s time to close out the mostly peaceful-ist, downward trending, misconception-izing Summer Shooting Season ever! Since opening day on Friday, May 28th, we’ve tallied 300 homicides plus 1476 shot & wounded. Whereas 2020’s mostly peaceful riot fueled summer wrapped up with 345 homicides and 1604 shot & wounded.

Click thru for the weekend stats - it was worse than last year, and tied with 2016 for worst Labor Day Weekend since 2013. (That's as far back as HeyJackass! has stats.)

There are also details on the multiple, multiple-shootings that took place over the weekend.

The gun-hating Left will blame all of the violence on the inanimate objects, and ignore the people perpetrating the violence. And of course they will scream for more laws, and then not enforce the laws that are already on the books.

The Gun-hating Left Will Swear They Need More Laws

Fail

But enforcing the gun-laws that are already on the books would be unfair. 3 men, 3 guns, but prosecutors only file misdemeanor charges | CWB Chicago

Police searched the car for narcotics and wound up finding three loaded handguns inside the center console, prosecutors said. One of the guns was allegedly equipped with an extended ammunition magazine. The three men were arrested.

Prosecutors said the men are Marcus Taylor, 30, who was on bail for another pending felony gun case; Jerry Glover, 22, who has two prior felony narcotics convictions; and Isaiah Robinson, 23, who is on parole for a felony gun conviction.

But prosecutors only charged the men with one count of misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon each.

Even a Cook County judge asked if more charges would be forthcoming, and the prosecutor answered with a simple, "No."

Why is crime skyrocketing in Chicago? Because prosecutors are sending a message that breaking the law comes with no consequences.

Oklahoma Is Not New Jersey

If the man with the gun gives you an option to live, you might consider taking it. Homeowner shoots, kills alleged burglar, Tulsa police say.

The homeowner said his alarm alerted him to someone trying to break into his house. When he got home, he found the suspect carrying stuff from his house.

He told police he tried to stop the burglar from leaving while he called police, saying the suspect attacked him with a metal object.

One gunshot wound to the torso later, the would be bad-guy died at a local hospital.

Self-defense is a human-right.

That Is What You Call Ironic

Another story from Chicago, but do you think any of the other cities are any different? 3 anti-violence workers charged with felony gun violations — while on bail for felony gun violations.

There are a lot of things that will send your eyebrows rising during Chicago’s daily felony bond court hearings. But among the more perplexing are the people accused of illegally carrying firearms while, according to their defense attorneys, they are active members of anti-violence groups.

The past few days have been extra perplexing. At least three men who are supposedly working to end gun violence in Chicago were charged with illegally carrying guns this week while they were already on bond for other felony gun cases. One of the men’s pending cases includes allegations that he shot at two people.

Apparently he is only trying to end some gun violence.

Click thru for the details including the one about the church-going, anti-violence worker charged with a gun crime.

The future is stupid.

Woman on Felony Bonds Arrested for Murder

Bonds. Plural. Because keeping dangerous people in jail is unfair. Or something. Woman who was out on multiple felony bonds, charged in deadly shooting

According to police, Peteet was out on multiple felony bonds, including felony theft, theft of a firearm and felony criminal mischief, at the time of the incident.

"The incident" being journalism-speak for murder and tampering with evidence.

So if cash bail is unfair, then how about just holding people until trial? But that would require a "speedy trial" and the Criminal Justice System (more Criminal than concerned with Justice) would have to get to the "speedy" part.

So how fair was it to the dead woman and her family?

Days Go By - London

VUUR is a Dutch Progressive Metal band (they sing in English!) which is mostly the project of Anneke van Giersbergen. She is one of my favorite Metal singers. No growling, just her clear vocals. She was lead vocalist for The Gathering, until she left in 2008. She has had a couple of her own projects, and been a guest vocalist on other artists' albums.

The rest of VUUR includes Jord Otto and Ferry Duijsens both playing guitars, Johan van Stratum playing bass, and Ed Warby on drums.

Here is a link to the lyrics. You might want them; it is Metal.

This song is "Days Go By - London" by VUUR from their 2017 album In This Moment We Are Free – Cities.

Texans Are Still Armed

Bad guys are still getting shot. Alleged intruder shot dead by Porter homeowner

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were told a male homeowner went outside when an alarm indicated motion in the driveway. An unknown man, later identified as Bounds, was found inside the homeowner’s vehicle. At gun point, the homeowner ordered Bounds out of his vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

“I’m not going back to prison,” Bounds told the homeowner, according to the sheriff’s office.

Of course the simple way to "not go back to prison" is to stop being a criminal. I suppose that statement will be denounced for being racist.

My understanding is that all homicides are referred to a grand jury in Texas, and this one will be. The homeowner was not arrested.

Self-defense is a human-right.
