From the Los Angeles Daily News we get the following. Getting a gun permit in LA County shouldn’t be rarer than a Nolan Ryan no-hitter
As a lawsuit by the federal government details, just one in 2,000 concealed-carry permit applicants wins the legally required seal of approval from the LA County Sheriff’s Department. From the start of 2024 to March 2025, nearly 4,000 people sought permits. The Department deigned to grant just two of them their constitutional rights – “a mere 0.05% approval rate.”
That’s not how the system is supposed to work. It’s been three years since the U.S. Supreme Court held that “ordinary, law-abiding citizens have a…right to carry handguns publicly for their self-defense.” Apparently, the Sheriff’s Department has not gotten the message.
Or maybe it has, but it just doesn’t care.
It is a bit amazing to see the Dept. of Justice take on this case, since other parts of the DOJ appear to be fighting against the 2nd Amendment.
Appalled by the LA sheriff’s disregard for the Constitution, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has brought a civil rights lawsuit alleging that the county has a “pattern or practice” of violating the Second Amendment. Pattern-or-practice suits to protect civil rights, first authorized by Congress in the wake of the beating of Rodney King by LA law enforcement, are often a big sign that something’s gone very wrong.
My guess is that the Left will have a fit about this, if they aren't already.
I'll have to make some popcorn. Click thru for the details.

Their are to steps to get a CCW in L.A. county. Step 1 you must be a celebrity. Step 2 "donate" a minimum of $10K to the current sheriffs reelection campaign. Otherwise you will not get one. This is common knowledge here.

The lawsuit names the current sheriff and specifically named calendar years. But this goes way, way back for decades.
ReplyDeleteA friend got her LA County issued CCW by graft. It seems the LA sheriff back then owed her dad some favors. It was by her dad calling in his favors that daughter got her permit.
While friend wouldn't give the details, she did mention the year this happened. It was mid-1990s. I seem to recall that there were less than ten permits issued to ordinary citizens in that year by that county. At least one by graft.
The DOJ will prevail in this. This will paint a target on the back of any who so acquire a CCW from the county. Those in local gov will seek retribution.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is this suit is a joke. Bringing action to preserve lawful rights of lawful citizens all the while there are so many criminals who are armed. DOJ should be arresting and charging and prosecuting the whole county and city governments.
But that is too much like work. This is easy and it looks like its serious. But don't look too closely.
The people involved face no personal consequences for their abusive conduct. Till that changes they won't.
ReplyDeleteThat describes every decision by every government bureaucrat ever. Whatever policies they adopt, any negative consequences are always incurred by someone else or the public as a whole
