Self-Defense Is Legal in Alabama

Even though I expect self-defense to be legal in Alabama, the DA in this case moved at warp speed. Huntsville Police: Homeowner stops, kills armed intruder | WAAY-TV

An armed guy tries to force himself into a home at 1 o'clock in the morning. Where he met an armed homeowner, with the expect results.

The Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit led the investigation. Authorities determined Davis was armed and trying to enter the home when a resident shot him.

That much is fairly commonplace among the stories I highlight, but this is the part that I find amazing.

The Madison County District Attorney's office reviewed the evidence and decided not to file criminal charges, stating the resident acted in accordance with Alabama Law.

Soup to nuts, this entire incident, including the determination by the DA took less than 24 hours. I would have expected the DA's office to be closed, or working on a skeleton crew on Saturday. And even if I am reading this incorrectly, and it took a week... There are jurisdictions where the prosecutors wait months to admit that self-defense might be legal, even in the face of video evidence.

Self-defense is a human right.
