More on the Colbert Kerfuffle

The Gang from Friday Night Tights at Nerdrotic dissects Colbert's destruction of the CBS Late Show, a show that has aired since 30 August 1993 when it debuted as the Late Show with David Letterman, after Letterman had his falling out with NBC. That was after Johnny Carson retired in 1992, and NBC went with Leno.

Say that again. Colbert's performance on the CBS Late Show wasn't so bad that his contract was not renewed. His performance was so bad that he nuked a show that has been on television for more than 30 years. That show had been printing money, to the tune of $100 million per year, and in recent years has started losing somewhere around $40 million per year. But don't say it is a financial decision! No. No. Orange Man Bad. Or something.

There is a quote from Johnny Carson in the middle of the video embedded below. (At 11 minutes in) Johnny Carson explaining why as an entertainer/comedian he NEVER took a stance on a "serious issue." He didn't think that was his job.

This is the Nerdrotic Daily video COLBERT CANCELED – No Laughs, No Ratings, No Job. It is an excerpt from Friday Night Tights on 18 July.

Gary, Nerdrotic himself, sums things up nicely:

So, you failed so spectacularly you got everybody else fired, and a show that's been around forever canceled forever. Well done, sir. Well done, you piece of crap.

It's a 27 minute video, but I think it's worth it. FNT is NOT safe for work... F-bombs ahead.

Of course as Disparu pointed out, claiming that the firing is political, the Left is admitting that the show is political.

James Woods had a great piece of storytelling.

In classic story structure there are traditionally three acts and an epilogue…

The video from James Woods is 38 seconds.

  1. In 2017 ABC chose not to renew their second highest rated sitcom "Last Man Standing" after its sixth season. Many (myself included) figured it was a political move due to Tim Allen's constant use of obama, bill, and hillary as a punchline. ABC never gave a reason why they did not renew the contract (as is their right) and Fox picked it up for three more seasons.
In this case CBS is loosing $40 million a year which seems to most people with two brain cells to rub together a good reason to dump his ass.

    1. I had forgotten about that. I had given up on TV in the early 2000s when I moved aboard my boat. The previous owners had left a TV, but I donated it, and never looked back. Even today, I own a TV, a bit old now, but a decent sized flat screen - a bit small for the room it is currently in - but I almost never watch it.
