NYC Council Member Tells Residents to Arm Themselves

How bad is crime in NYC when the Politicians are urging people to defend themselves? Pretty bad, though to be fair she is a Republican. I didn't think there were any Republicans in NYC. So there was a fairly disturbing home invasion in Queens, in which two bad guys disguised themselves as Amazon delivery drivers and got entry to a home. They tied up the family, both parents and three kids.

Republican Vickie Paladino offered to help residents in her district — which covers Whitestone, where the ordeal took place — obtain gun permits in light of the break-in Monday morning.

“I want to remind my constituents that New Yorkers have a constitutional right to protect themselves,” Paladino said in a statement.

The the whole "permit required to merely own a firearm" is a problem in my mind, but these people basically choose to live in NYC under these conditions.

The video you will find at that link concentrates on the 3AM knock on the door, but really for any knock on the door... Why are you opening the door? Get a doorbell cam, and you can see who is there, and you can talk to them from the other end of the house, or the other end of the country.

That's it. That's the extent of the rules. Oh, and if they break in then you are in a self-defense situation. Of course while self-defense is a human-right, it may or may not be your legal right in NYC depending on how the prosecutor feels that day.

Now ever since I realized how poorly Amazon treats its employees, especially its delivery drivers, I have tried not to order through Amazon. When I do order things online, I know ahead of time if a signature will be required.
