People You Know Can Be a Threat

The gun-hating part of the Left loves go on about how if you own a gun, you are more likely to shoot someone you know, than a complete stranger. There is a reason for that. Manteca city councilor shoots stepson in self-defense, police say - CBS Sacramento

The stepson, who doesn't live in the home, allegedly attacked and threatened to kill [City Councilor David] Breitenbucher, resulting in Breitenbucher using a personal firearm to shoot his stepson at least once in the abdomen. Breitenbucher then called 911 to report what had happened, police said.

During the confrontation, Breitenbucher suffered a head injury. Both individuals were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Normally I would be a tiny bit suspicious if a politician was not arrested at a shooting, but the head injury seems to indicate that there was a threat, at the very least, of grave bodily injury. I'm cynical, and I'm from Illinois, where corruption of both police and politicians is traditional.

Manteca, California is in San Joaquin County, about an hour and 15 minute drive east of San Francisco, or about an hour's drive south of Sacramento.

The stepson was in critical, but stable, condition.

When the gun-hating part of the Left goes on about shooting people you know, what they aren't saying is that they believe people you know can never be a threat. They studiously ignore things like domestic violence, and this incident. In part that is because they don't want to hint that victims can, in some cases, take action to defend themselves. It is their worship of the victim status. Well, and the industries that cater to victims.

That part of the Left (no, it is not all of the Left) also ignores the fact that who you know, includes a lot of people. Disgruntled ex-employees. The creepy guy from your favorite coffee shop. The ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend turned violent stalker. It goes on from their. Just because you know them, doesn't mean you like them, and it certainly doesn't mean that they can't be a threat.

Self-defense is a human right.
