Self-Defense Is Legal in Texas

Even, it seems, in the Blue Enclave that is Austin. Austin H-E-B security guard shot armed shoplifter in self-defense

H-E-B is a privately held supermarket chain in Texas and Mexico.

Police determined 34-year-old Warren Owusu, a uniformed security guard, was trying to get Michael Rosario, 32, to leave the store after he was caught shoplifting. Rosario showed Owusu he had a knife and was using a car hubcap as a shield, the release said. Owusu tased Rosario, but it was "ineffective," and Rosario "charged at" Owusu while holding the knife, police said. Owusu then shot Rosario, acting in self-defense.

I'm sure the usual suspects in Austin, and elsewhere, will be up in arms over this action. How dare a business employ someone who is responsible for combating shoplifting. Unless they see things differently in Texas.
