What Happens When You Defund the Police?

Nothing good. Longer police response times alarm citizens across the U.S. due to staffing shortages.

Open the Books discovered that in 2022, the Metro Nashville Police Department took an average of 74 minutes to respond to calls which is 60 minutes longer than the year before.

That's an average, apparently of all calls. They don't give any information on how calls are broken out severity.

The average drive that cop had to make to respond to a 911 call in Nashville was 16 minutes. That is a long time, if bad things are happening. I'm also not sure if that varies by the nature of the call. (Reporters need to learn to include statistics in their writing.)

If you read the article linked above, you would think that the staffing problems in Nashville PD are all about inflation and budgets. That is partially true.

But Nashville went in on "Defund the Police" in a big way after the canonization of St. George of the Floyd. That isn't mentioned anywhere in the article linked above.

You’re probably familiar with former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, but do you know the names of Officer Michael Collazo or Officer Rex Engelbert? They were the officers of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department who stopped Audrey Hale from killing more innocent children.

Now, ask yourself, why don’t you know their names?

For reasons I cannot deduce, the Left seems to want chaos in our cities. That is certainly the outcome of their policies.

Calling 911 is a fine thing to do. They can send all kinds of help your way. But that help will not arrive instantly. Better have a plan for what to do while you wait.
