Woke Hollywood in Decline

It isn't a new thing that Hollywood is in decline, but what is new, is that Hollywood (or the mainstream entertainment media, at least) is waking up to the fact that they are in decline.

The Nerdrotic video Woke Hollywood in PANIC Mode! "This is a Full-Scale Depression" is embedded below.

Gary "Nerdrotic" Buechler covers a lot of ground in the video, but toward the end, after covering a list of murdered film and TV franchises, he covers the complete creative bankruptcy of Hollywood.

But hey! Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm blowing things out of proportion. Let's take a look at the remaining release list for 2024, which features 17 variations of prequels, sequels and reboots. Of course we know about Deadpool 3 and Joker 2, but here's the rest. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (without Mad Max), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, (the fourth film in the third reboot of that franchise), Bad Boys 4, Inside Out 2, A Quiet Place Day One, Despicable Me 4, Twisters (which is the sequel to Twister), Alien Romulus (which takes place between Alien and Aliens, making it Alien 1½ ...

I can't even list them all. I'm convinced that there is not a single new idea in all of Hollywood.

There is not a single creative idea coming out of traditional Hollywood. The Deadline article he starts with (linked below) even mentions Angel Studios in a positive light. They are the studio responsible for Sound of Freedom. You know, the movie that all of Hollywood tried to destroy by associating it with QAnon. Because apparently anything that fights against the human trafficing of children is bad in the eyes of Hollywood. (That would have nothing to do with the details in the documentary Quiet on Set, Epstein's client list, etc.)

And then Deadline blasts movie stars for pushing politics instead of promoting their films.

Did I just read that? Did Deadline just call out movie stars for being insufferable twats?

It is a 13 minute video, so plan accordingly.

One of the main articles Nerdrotic covers is from Deadline. Michael Cieply: For Hollywood, Q1 Was A Bust; Will CinemaCon Bring Some Q2 Hope? CinemaCon is a convention of (mostly) theaters and presentations of interest to cinema owners. It will be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas next week.

Or, given that Sony is sitting out, it might be worth listening to the Angel Studios presentation on Wednesday, April 10. The people who brought you Sound of Freedom might patch some holes in the schedule, or have a useful thought about the alternative audience.
