Panopticom (Dark-Side Mix)

Peter Gabriel has released an album of new music. This is after a VERY long break. Consequence: Peter Gabriel Releases i/o, First New Album in 21 Years: Stream. (Hat tip to Caveman Circus.)

i/o spans 12 tracks and arrives in several different mixes, including a Bright-Side Mix and a Dark-Side Mix, which were done by Mark “Spike” Stent and Tchad Blake, respectively. Appearing alongside Gabriel on the record is longtime collaborator, Brian Eno, as well as guitarist David Rhodes, bassist Tony Levin, drummer Manu Katché, two different choirs, and others.

The two mixes are available to stream digitally, and can be purchased on CD and vinyl formats. Additionally, Gabriel is offering standalone pressings of each mix, as well as 4xLP, three-disc box-set featuring both mixes and a third mix, the In-Side Mix by Hans-Martin Buff. Orders are ongoing.

I started listening to the Dark-Side Mix, and haven't gotten to the Bright-Side Mix versions as I type this. As usual, I like some of it, and don't like other parts. I'm not sure if the In-Side Mix version are available anywhere except on vinyl.

This song was relased on the day of the new moon of 21 January 2023, but I only tripped over this in December. Other songs were released on various days of 2023, some on full moons. December 1st is listed at the release date. I think that is when the CD/vinyl was released. I thought I was falling down on the job, but the first mention in Pitchfork that I could find was 1 December.

This is "Panopticom (Dark-Side Mix)" by Peter Gabriel from his 2023 album i/o. It is his first album since 2002.
