Dance Punk was never my thing. It didn't seem too much like dance music, most of it anyway, and after Post Punk I had moved on to other genres.
You Say Party! We Say Die! quit, and then reformed as You Say Party!. But today's song is from before the hiatus. I can't really say why, but I actually like this song quite a bit. I suppose it reminds me a little of my clubbing days.
This is "There is XXXX (Within My Heart)" by You Say Party! We Say Die! from their 2009 album XXXX.
This song came to me by way of a Canadian TV show. I can't remember if I've mentioned Lost Girl or not, but it is in the same vein as Grimm or Ghost Whisperer. And since Canadian shows generally have less money than US shows (though that seems to be changing), they can't rely on explosions or special effects, but actually have to develop characters and tell stories. Go figure.
And the reason that You Say Party! We Say Die! took a hiatus is a bit disturbing. Drummer for Canadian Rock Band Dies Onstage of Brain Hemorrhage. That happened in 2010. I guess I understand why when they got back together, they used a drum machine. When they came back from the hiatus, they also used the name You Say Party! I understand that too.
