You take one aspect of a heroine that you don't like, and you substitute an aspect that no one likes. Is this a win?
Disney hates the "Damsel in Distress" trope, and so is substituting the "Perfect Girl Boss" trope. Which is worse. There is a difference between telling good stories, and hitting people over the head with the popular tropes of the day.
But somewhere along the road something changed. Disney continued to expand its storytelling, but quite meaningful changes made by someone like [Linda] Woolverton, evolved into bombarding audiences with loud social messaging.
This is Sidney Watson's video The age of insufferable Disney princesses...
Though the best quote is...
It's like being gas-lit for 2 hours, after paying $50 for popcorn.
