HeyJackass! has the weekend stats: Don't Demonize Weekend
Rambling past 400 homicides on our way to 700-ish.
That's right, total homicides for the year in Chicago passed 400 this week. And as bad as that is, it is slightly better than the last few years, so the powers that be will declare victory, because Crime Is Down™. Pay no attention to the fact that the yearly homicide total in 2009 was 419, with similar if slightly higher totals in 2010 and 2011. But 2009 is ancient history. Or something.
Final total for the weekend, which by HeyJackass! standards runs from noon on Friday to six o'clock Monday morning, was 5 homicides, and 31 people shot and wounded.

It really was a great city. I can't imagine why everyone is not trying to get out of Cook County while they can.
