While the city burns, Chicago's Mayor, Brandon Johnson, goes to a Beyonce concert. Comparisons to Nero are warranted.
First up we have Hot Air: So Chicago this weekend...hope you weren't there.
Is anyone paying attention to that place, besides the families who have to come identify a body?
Click thru for brawls in the street (in the Loop?), a fight at a baseball game, and pictures of said concert, where the mayor was "Fan-girling." And also some commentary.
Next we have Don’t Demonize Weekend, from HeyJackass!
The SAFE-T act is the unironically named law in the State of Illinois that does away with cash bail in most circumstances. While it has been the policy of the Criminal Justice System (so-called) in Cook County, it will soon be the law in Illinois. What could possibly go wrong?
Now that the whole ending cash bail issue has been settled, we have only two demonization-free months left before SAFE-T settles across the land.
The final count in Chicago, courtesy of HeyJackass! for the weekend (noon Friday through 6 AM Monday) was 6 people killed, and another 31 people shot and wounded. As bad as that sounds, it was really only an average summer weekend in the Windy City. HeyJackass! has more stats, and links to a couple of news articles.
And then we have Lollapalooza coming up on August 3rd thru the 6th in Grant Park by the waterfront. HeyJackass! refers to that weekend as Shootapalooza. (The hat tip for the first link goes to Doug Ross.)
