This "news outlet" mentions the fact that he was a firefighter multiple times. It is beside the point. Self defense, gun law debate intensifies after firefighter death | wusa9
He was engaged in a 'domestic violence attack' (alleged). The woman in question ran from him at 3:30 in the morning toward a man walking his dog. This 'firefighter' threatened the man who was a concealed carry licensee. That was a mistake.
“According to witnesses, Braxton approached and threatened to harm the man,” authorities said in a written statement. “The man, who has a permit to carry a firearm, produced a gun and shot Braxton."
The soon-to-be-dead guy wasn't engaged in fighting a fire; he was threatening a bystander who happened to get between himself and the woman he was assaulting (allegedly). His day job is as beside the point as his favorite brand of soup.
If this had taken place in Florida, people would be cheering the defender, and the sheriff, depending on the county, would probably offer some words about how it was a good thing this law-abiding citizen was there to protect that woman, and that bad guys need to take note that the good guys are armed. But this took place in Maryland, and I'm sure that the DA HATES self-defense, because (in your best Gretta voice) How Dare You not rely on the state for everything.
To me, it seems pretty a straight forward case of self-defense, which is a human right, but then I don't live in Maryland.
