If a "burglary" happens when the house is occupied, most of us consider that to be Home Invasion. There may be a legal definition in North Carolina I'm not aware of.
Police said that just before midnight they were alerted to a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Carolina Avenue.
The couple told police they heard the burglar come in through a sliding door and yelled at him to leave. One of them fired a shot at the intruder but did not hit him.
A K-9 could not track the subject. The homeowners were unhurt but upset, though probably not as upset as the guy who was almost shot.
Self-defense is a human-right.
