Texas Is a Bad Place to Be a Criminal

Everyone is armed, and the law is firmly on the side of the homeowner. HPD: Grand jury will determine if homeowner who shot alleged car burglar should face charges

I'm no lawyer, but it is my understanding that every homicide in Texas is presented to a grand jury. No one was arrested.

A woman and a man were breaking into cars in a Houston neighborhood when a homeowner intervened. With extreme prejudice. The woman was shot and found a short distance away, and declared dead. The guy ran.

Part of the Texas law known as "the castle doctrine" says you can use deadly force to protect property if it's necessary to prevent "arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime or criminal mischief during the nighttime."

So if you don't want to face a pissed off homeowner at 3:20 AM, stay away from their stuff.

You have to think that they believed they were invincible, or that no one would be alerted to their presence at 3 o'clock in the morning. They certainly knew that they were in Texas.

Cops are still looking for the guy who was with the woman who got shot.
