Williams’ mom, Anitra, claimed it was because her son and Maria were romantically involved after they met at a John George Psychiatric Hospital, where Maria was his nurse.

I'm not sure you can say that the lie destroyed 3 lives in this instance, but I think you can blame the "How dare you live without me" attitude, or some similar attitude.
And also, crazy people are dangerous.
So, the Deputy, a badge and gun carrying LEO, is a certifiable Wack Job? Color me not surprised and thoroughly under impressed by his department's policies.
